    John I love how you’ve tied together all your work on the Metas, the KC 62 and now the Powernode (waiting on mine currently!). This beats other reviewers talking about crap for 30 minutes by far. Very practical and fun.

      None of these things exist in isolation, so tie-ins are built-in by design. That means I'm not just churning through product reviews, week in, week out, but running a thread through them.

    1 year later, I still go back to this video, dreaming so hard to have this system, but can't because of chronic poverty of a musician. I've listened to the Powernode with the LS50 meta (without the sub) and it was amazing. I totally understand your enthusiasm with envy.

      I just caught some metas on eBay for $900! I'm about to enter into hifi with this same system with a powernode. I've also heard that a Rel T5/i or T5/x is pretty damn comparable to the KC62 at a third to half the price, but I have to hold off on the sub.
      Hang in there! You'll be in hifi someday (though ironically enough, I wish I was more of a musician than I currently am, but I ended up going a more blue collar route)

    So simple I'm almost tempted.
    Re the sub roll off...some years ago I got a Adam sub 10 to support some Adam A7 monitors. In the process I connected my old Yamaha MSP5 monitors with the cross over somewhere between 80&90Hz and the results were startling. Without the need to go down low, the smaller Yamaha's became my preferred setup. It was a real revelation about how much speakers improve when you remove the bottom end heavy lifting

    I have the original Node (not the powernode) and what impresses me is that it still gets updates and hasn't been made obsolete to force me to buy a new unit. This sort of thing makes me more loyal to a brand because (so far) I know I'm not going to be dumped.

    Not sure this will get any reply considering the video is two years old, but here it goes. I have a simple set-up in my cabin. That is, I run an ageing pair of AVI ADM9T powered speakers that still sound nice enough. I've tried a few of the newer fan favourites in the 1-2K ballpark and nothing beats them by enough to justify the money. I run a simple bluetooth receiver and just push anything I want to listen to (lossless files, internet radio, spotify, etc). What bugs me is that no matter what I push, the cd-player I also have hooked up to them makes them sound about 3x as good. This is obviously a "problem" with my bluetooth receiver. From here I can go various ways, but i reckon just hooking them up to a decent streamer is the most efficient way to go. I'm stuck with the integrated (decent) DAC in the speakers, so no need to go overboard on anything with a top of the line DAC. I am on the fence between the Powernode, a WIIM Pro Plus or something like a CA CXN V2 or going with an all in one box like a Marantz PM 7000 N. The latter would enable me to hook up passive speakers in case I feel like a change. Anyway, Different solutions which will all sound significantly better than the current bluetooth receiver. Was just wondering what your take on this would be? Go the Powernode route or one of the alternatives (PS I know not all mentioned devices are capable of doing so, but I like to chromecast various streams directly to the streamer or amplifier. Sound quality is, however, more important to me, so I would forego it to get better sound). Plan C would be to replace the AVI speakers...

    Bought this setup 2 years ago and it was exactly the sound I love. Pinpoint imaging where you you know exactly where vocalists are standing, and how tall they are, large, well-defined soundstage, and speakers that disappear. So here’s the problem… I want this exact sound, but with more power to open the speakers up further. I’m wondering if NAD Masters series amps have similar sonic characteristics as Powernode.?.?

    I have the previous powernode and I think it sounds really good. I have a fancy integrated and really great DAC in my main system but I never mind the sound coming from the powernode. it just works. very neutral and transparent, feels like I'm just hearing the speakers nothing less nothing more.

    Just set up my new powernode with Buchardt s400 MK2 and very, very disappointed with the muddy bass. Now I'm not claiming to be an expert but both my existing Yamaha amps....one an aventage av with good burr brown DACs is far better sonically than the powernode. So disappointed with this set up... I thought, in any 2.1 outputting amp, when using a sub and setting a crossover, the stereo output would always by high-pass filtered. But I really didn't know. Thanks, this is informative. As for the device itself, the HDMI connection is what I've been waiting for! Though I might want to go for the regular Node as I still have a NAD C272 power amp somewhere. Though I do like the idea of a single device + speakers.

    I was deciding between this and the NAD D 3045. Ultimately went with the NAD due to the USB input, which I think (for this particular space of highly integrated amplifiers) is a modern requirement, as well as its built in phono pre-amp (not using where I have it currently, but it's nice to have for future flexibility).

    How about this system compared to the Buchardt A500? Think you compared the KEF Wireless II to them and they came out on top. So if this one beats the KEF Wireless II for your taste of music (smooth top end), what does that say about the Buchardt?

    • @BradleySpahn

      I imagine this system would be his favorite of the three. But as an A500 owner, the Buchardts are a bit of a moving target. The newest master tunings are tremendous and (for me) dramatically improve the soundstage beyond what would have been available to John at review time. As with many things hi-fi, what you prefer is a matter of taste.

    Great Review, John! I do respect your musical taste(s), but, what am I to do if I listen (primarily) to Classical? As you said yourself, a system might be more suitable to certain genres than to others. Sooo...how do I decide on purchasing (whatever) gear? (Maybe, just suggesting, you let someone else play a Classical track or two?) BTW: I have been watching MANY of your reviews, I truly appreciate your knowledge and your expertise.

    • @DarkoAudio
      @DarkoAudio  3 года назад +2

      The short and brutal answer is: you don't. I mean this in the nicest possible way but, as I've long maintained on this channel, classical music listeners are VERY well looked after by the traditional hifi press. I am talking to a different audience: people with music tastes like my own who, the way I see it, are much under-represented by the more traditional hifi press.
      Me and my team put 10+ days of work into each video and it comes to 'you' for free. I think it's therefore only fair then that I get to decide the parameters of my work. And I only work with music that I enjoy listening to.
      And what many viewers with more traditional audiophile music tastes often fail to see is that the music I listen to might be alien to *them* but, objectively speaking, it isn't all that obscure. Online magazines like Pitchfork and Resident Advisor that cover it have HUGE readerships. Far, FAR greater than *any* classical music mag on the planet.
      I would advise you take from each video whatever you are able and then go searching for classical-related info elsewhere. Perhaps you - and others thirsty for classical related content - should be hassling your favourite 'classical'-audiophile mags to make the leap to RUclips. :)

    • @yuvals6409
      @yuvals6409 3 года назад

      @@DarkoAudio Thanks, John. I understand. The only problem is that I trust you much more than I do the mags you have mentioned. And, I'm not sure that I will find coverage of the latest gear in them. As for 'hassling' my (or others') 'classical'-audiophile mags to make the leap to RUclips - I don't trust many of them, and the ones I do (can I mention Hi-FI+ and Hi-Fi News and Record Review?) - I'm quite sure they won't make the leap. Thanks again for the great reviews, and keep up the good job!

    So this raises a question for me that I hope you can help with. When running a brand like REL subwoofers for two channel set up with my NAD M10 and my Dali Rubicon 2's with a pair of REL T7i subwoofers the REL connection by passes the Sub out connection and is connected to the speaker terminal instead. REL claims this is so the timing of the low frequencies is as the recording intended it to be. The sound I am very pleased with but I want your opinion on this connection. Does it make sense to even bother with setting a crossover point and does this effectively send all the low frequency to the subs or are the Dali's still needing more power because they are handling more of the low frequency as you do not use the LFE connection?

      I’m not really an audiophile, just love John’s content and taste in music! But I find it hard to believe that applying a high pass filter automatically isn’t a completely standard approach when you are applying a low pass filter - why wouldn’t it be? Surely it’s illogical to pump out the low frequencies via two speaker channels, when you’ve already told the sub to handle it? Odd! But regardless, this seems a lovely bit of kit. Shame I’m wall to wall Sonos already (see, told you I’m no audiophile!)

      Agree 100%. I have a competing streamer pre-amp that is a little bit older and had to buy an active crossover to get this ability. The difference in smoothness when integrating a sub with smaller stand-mount speakers is huge. If I choose to upgrade I will definitely consider one of these Bluesound streamers.

      Does the high pass work if you use the Node with an offboard DAC?

    • @AntonMochalin
      @AntonMochalin 3 года назад +1

      @@DomRivers67 I think it should, in such "digital" amps like this Powernode all the inputs including analog ones are processed in the digital domain. Not 100% sure but very likely. And this brings the question of why you'd need an external DAC for a device like this except for when you have some extremely good external DAC (and then you can probably afford a much better power amp).

    After thirty years longing for 2-channel again I went to my local hifi-dealer in 2020. They presented Bluesound Powernode 2i(2x60 watt). They had paired it with B&W 707 s2. At first when listening to it in their listening room I thought they were pulling my leg. My first thought was "How is it possible that these small loudspeakers with this small amplifier can sound so fantastic". It was just jaw-dropping. For instance, the bass coming out from these small elements is amazing. The problem I have now is that it sounds better than my other amplifier which cost 4 times more.

    Great video as always! Please do a Bluesond Powernode vs. Sonos Amp. I need a new stereo amp for streaming and my turntable. But I can't decide between the Bluesound and Sonos. How much better is the sound on the Bluesound? I plan on having Sonos in the rest of the house and I already have a Sonos Arc for my television, so it makes sense to go with the Sonos Amp. But if the sound quality is much better on the Bluesound, I wouldn't mind having that as a seperate system to when I really wan't to listen to music, where as the rest of the Sonos is more for the casual music and when I'm cooking og taking a shower or whatever.
    Jesus, that was a long message. Still reading? How nice of you to do so. I hope you have a great day!
