Great video, apparently the Powernode also pairs well with the LS50 Metas too, maybe similar to the 706s. Would be interesting to try to the Monitor Audio range you sell too, maybe the bronze 50s would provide an even more budget friendly option?
The Bronze range absolutely pairs up really nicely with the new Node. The Metas work well as well. We have had the chance to test them since recording this video.
Out of the lot, the cheapest one measures the most neutral, surprisingly. The next one is the 4.2 and the 2 Bowers are just boosted up top, which some people will like .
I got the 706s as reference speakers for my speaker building hobby. My home built speakers smoke my 706s. The 706s have a muffly voice sound, not "throaty" enough. But the upper treble is tipped up. Not enough lower treble and too much upper treble.
My issue is that I'm forced to use a space within 1 meter of a diagonal, shelved corner. It reverbs like hell from 70 to 110hz with floor standers. I will try some large bookshelf speakers as o am literally totally sick of the bass reverb. Large plush rug on its way and possibly some wall cladding. Great video guys, keep up the awesomeness 👌
I purchased the Graham LS 6 speakers (8 ohms; 87 dB’s impedance; recommended amplifier power 50-150 watts) for their lush BBC-type mid range. Do you think the Powernode has sufficient power and the proper tonality to allow me to enjoy that rich mid range? Thank you.
Great review!I think that the new designer (who also designed Q acoustics 3030i) altered the warm/non fatiguing sound of 200 series to something else (more agressive highs).Elevated higher frequencies and less bass in comparison with previous wrfs.I'll stick to my diamond 225s (very deep bass, sweet mids and gentle highs). Many buyers complaint about harsh/fatiguing highs.Detail treble, no thanks....
The Dentons are awesome little speakers and have a much more old-school sound than the Evo's or Diamonds. I guess in a lot of ways they are a sort of middle ground between the two.
Great review guys! Just what I was looking for- What speaker cabling and connectors would you recommend at this budget range? Looking at upgrading to the b&w bookshelf speakers on my Powernode
Nice one guys! The powernode streaming features are definitely enticing. Im looking at the evo 4.2s and audiolab 6000a would you say thats a step above the powernode or similar in terms or sound quality.
I personally prefer the sound of the Audiolab 6000A with the Evo 4.2 BUT I like the HDMI ARC functionality of the Powernode along with the Bluesound App much more than Playfi. That said if you are strictly a Spotify user its Audiolab all the way.
@@living_entertainment I'm playing a lot of Spotify and could make great use of ARC with my TV and Console, is that ease of use worth the sacrifice in sound? How big is the difference of the 6000a and Powernode? What product do you think is more versitile for future expansion in my home?
@@matsgd The difference in sound between the Powernode and Audiolab is less about quality and more about sound signature. If its features and functionality your looking for the Powernode is a very easy recommendation. If you were just wanting to listen to music I would recommend the Audiolab.
@@living_entertainment I meant what is the highest speaker wattage the Power Node? Can we connect it to the Hollywood bowl amphitheatre speaker systems, and it'll sound fine? Or it's limited to small floor standing speakers, and up to what max speaker watt power?
I checked on my Naim Atom+ SF Lumina II+ Wireworld Oasis II bi-wiring system. B&W the sound was like coins in a tin. I can’t believe that B&W that is real sound. There was problem with non compatible wires or source with amplifier or both. Wharfedale was better but not enough high mid. IMHO.
Many thanks for the review. I currently have a set B&W 706S2 that seem to match very well. For the low end I use a REL T7i subwoofer. Which Subwoofer cable do you recommend?
In terms of actually streaming, BluOS is far superior to Play-Fi in our opinion. When it comes to actual sound quality (despite not having MQA support) I think the Audiolab DAC implementation is a more detailed, well-defined, and punchy sound by far.
I got the Audiolab 6000A and 706s and brass sounds a but dull and dry on my 706s. Test the 706 against the 606 speakers, on brass. I bet the 606s smoke the 706s on brass. Cos I heard that the 606s are much brighter. In my room the 706s sound a bit "fooffy" with a lot of ride cymbal but not enough texture in the voice sound. And I don't like the sound signature in the med. Too much "squawk" and not I ought "squark" and "chuff". I build speakers and the 706s are my reference and they are good for that (being expensive) but if I add a bit of "squark" and "chuff" to my made speakers, they absolutely smoke my 706s! And I only fine tune mine very slghtly too, from the 706 sound. So the 706s can't be too bad, just a preference with me, I guess. I'm old and it's funny how I'm hearing the highest frequencies on the 706's but no lower treble. 😮
Nice job but I was confused on the Evo's vs the high end B&W speakers and which I should go with. Quick Note: Don't play anything by the Vax Nazi Neil Young!
@Living Entertainment North Coast Hello! I am a viewer from Taiwan, thank you for providing this video, it is very valuable for reference, but I want to know that my equipment is Audiolab 6000n + Audiolab 6000a, I have interacted with QUAD Vena, I think audiolab is relatively good It's easier to hear, I use Spotify + Qobuz for streaming platform, I use Paradigm's bookshelf speakers (used), and now I want to choose a new bookshelf speaker, which one is Evo or Diamond 12.2 suitable for me? Because I read the comments, you see Audiolab + evo rated high ? Want your response, it's important to me, thank you again ^_^.
To pair with the Powernode? Monitor Audio Bronze 100, nice big 8-inch woofer for plenty of bass, but they are also pretty quick and are quite detailed.

It will run them, however I would say the Powernode wouldn’t necessarily get the most out of them, they probably need a higher end option such as Hegel.
I bought my powernode about a year ago and using them for my b&w 707 s2 I love them
So where was the sound demo?
Wharfedale speakers are also very well made. And easy to power at 8 ohms normal impedance.

In this context spot on refers to the imaging being locked in place, there was no sense of haziness to the placement.
