Wool socks and wool base layer are the best in wet winter weather.

I worked out of alliance ne I liked the orange one piece snow suit.another trick is to wear surgical gloves and wrap your feet in plastic bags they will hold in your body heat

my main thing when it came to my hands was MITTENS, not gloves... and HANDWARMERS... two hand warmers per glove, 1 for your palm/fingers and 1 in the thumb, that thumb gets ICE COLD if you out there long enough... boots are IMPORTANT to... i had a pair of sorel dominators, i don't think they make them anymore but on the sorel website they have comparable boots... "mens caribou boot" on the sorel website is a close match... i've worn my dominators out on the lead WITH NO SOCKS and feet stayed toasty warm... i got caught in a bad spot where my socks got sweat wet and had to take them off (wet socks and ice cold winter weather DO NOT MATCH)... i had several pairs of red wing winter socks, they weren't wool but really thick insulated type cotton socks, worked really well... i put baby powder in my socks, me feet stayed BONE DRY, but socks were wet with sweat... on this night, i was working in the yard and ran out of socks... only option was to go out with no socks... but to my suprise those boots kept my bare feet WARM... also ask yourself, are you working on the road or in the yard... in the yard two words for you, BUNDLE UP... on the road???... depends... are you on a pool turn or a way freight... i've found that my winter clothing needs were slightly less modest when i worked a pool turn... rule of thumb, about 90% of your time on a pool turn is spent in the cab of the engine... on a way freight it's a 50/50 split so best to do more bundling if you're on a way freight than if you're on a pool turn

I’ve been working outside all my life and I’ve always used a system similar to ECWCS which is a layering system the military uses. But I modify it. What it does it not only provides warmth but flexibility.
The trick is you don’t want to get wet from the elements and stay wet from sweat.

I always find wearing 2 pairs of socks freeze my feet out faster for some reason.

Do you have a good recommendation for a rechargeable headlamp for night work that is bright and luminates a large amount of area.

    Another Thing For Foot Protection.
Put A Plastic Bag Over Your Fert Before Putting On Your Socks. The Plastic Will
Keep The Foot Sweat From Permeating Your Socks.

Oh my god lol , this may work for you but is probably the worst thing you could do to your feet .. your keeping your feet wet , which will result in trench foot . Socks are made of absorbant material for a reason , to keep you feet dry from sweat .

*HORRIBLE* idea... unless you want your feet to be *WET* and *ICE COLD* get socks that take the moisture away from your feet and into the sock... the sock will be wet but your feet will be DRY
