      Your grandpa was very fortunate to operate these 'Selkirk' class steam locomotives - road numbers 5900-5935. They were the largest and most powerful steam locomotives in the British Commonwealth and the 5935 was the last steam locomotive to be built in Canada and is preserved at the Canadian Railway Museum in Saint-Constant, Quebec. The 5931 is the only other streamlined 'Selkirk' to be displayed. You should be very proud of him! 😊

      That's a big "if". Even if you are on call 365 days a yea I doubt that there will be a call everyday. Furthermore, I doubt that anyone can work that much.
      I was working as a highway engineer in the UK and I was on call for 2 months straight. Attending emergencies 3 or 4 nights a week (on top of the day job). In the end I decided that 1 week of "on call" a month was enough because otherwise you feel like a zombie, constantly tired. And let's not forget that the weather in the UK is way better than in Canada most of the year.
      If you don't have a family a job like that might be ok. But once you settle down money isn't really worth it if you can't be with your loved ones.

    • @amyseaden9069
      @amyseaden9069 4 года назад +1

      David Edwards 5 weeks is pretty rare. Many should expect a lot less vacation than they may have had in other countries. It is often not possible to take all the time in a row as well especially during the summer. 2 weeks may be possible but 2+ weeks becomes an issue in many offices. Parents often need to use holiday time when children are off school during the year when there may be no summer camps that you can pay for.

    • @davidedwards3838
      @davidedwards3838 4 года назад +1

      @@amyseaden9069 that is why I said up to five weeks. 2 weeks is the law. I work for myself. But my wife gets 4. And yes if you are coming from France Italy or the Nordic countries you will get less. But even at two weeks it's better then the US. Which is zero paid vacation. Obviously there are companies in the us that will give holidays. It's just not the law.

    • @amyseaden9069
      @amyseaden9069 4 года назад +2

      David Edwards Know all this but when other people look they may be used to taking a month off so wanted to stress that 5 weeks is rare and even if you have 5 weeks many end up not taking it if they can bank it. If people have family overseas they may think they can take a month off to visit their family especially during the summer when their children are off school. Most offices won’t allow this even if you want to take unpaid leave. Just want to be realistic. Some may have no holiday time if not a full-time position. Although more generous than the US, Canadian workers still has quite minimal holiday time compared to many other countries.

      G-man, 1) yes, ur experience will surely help in interview. 2) CP/CN/VIA rail r some big players. all big cities have their own LRT's. 4) pay is good... but ( for me atleast .. lol) it is the working conditions that sux... i've never seen snow in my life may b that's why... 5) yea, they call it train engineer who drives it... u only get to drive after few years working as a conductor here. I hope it helps.

    Hi Igor, I am following your chanel for about a year and I realy apreciate you for creating such a great and informative content.
    I know your story and that you have arrived to Canada as an international studen. I have been accepted to a college in New Brunswick and planning to arrive in summer. I am curious if you could share with me your experience with IRCC. I learned that visa officers might reject study permit if the aplicant has a higher degree than the program he is planning to study in Canada. I have a bachelors degree in Marketingfrom Ukranian University and going to study Graphic and Communication Design in Canada, migbt that cause a problem for getting the study permit?
    I am asking it from you,because I know that you had a masters degree in Economics prior to coming to Canada. I hope that you have an advise to share with me on this regard.
    Thank you and best wishes to you in the new 2020 year!

      Hi
      You're going to be just fine. Yes it would take time for the immigration office to process the Study permit but it shouldn't get rejected for that reason.
      Good luck.

    Привет Ребята, очень нравятся ваши видео, сам из Одессы, мне 35 и думаю куда поехать учится на машиниста локомотива, в США, Канаду или Германию. Пока что не совсем понимаю восстребовательность на рынке США и Канады этой профессии, но это моя мечта с детства, я много кем работал, но это точно мое. Понимаю что климат в Канаде для этой профессии суровый, но я уверен что конкуренция на рынке труда в Канаде ниже и попасть в профессию проще, чем США, но не понимаю насколько проще и как на самом деле, в ютюбе очень мало инылрмации про эту отрасль.Что нибудь слышали про США, как там? Смотрю голую статистику правительств и спрос на машиниста будет падать до 2030 года на 7%, в то время как в других проф. Это в основном стабильный прирост в 7%?
