"I've never seen a movie with [Martin Short] so young!" Ooh, time for some 80's Martin Short! Three Amigos, Pure Luck, and Innerspace all have Martin being hilarious and adorable.
This was one of the first major non-sport trading card franchises produced by Topps (Bubbles) in 1962. They've had sets here and there over the years but that original set is very popular and it was very controversial at the time because of some of the vivid imagery contained on the cards.
Topps wanted a Civil War card set for the centennial in 1961, but the artists & writers made it all gory, which Topps loved & Mars Attacks was the next idea they had
Nicki is beautiful! Great reaction! I loved how you engaged with the audience throughout-it made the experience even more enjoyable. You should definitely consider doing more movie reviews! A classic like The Goonies would be amazing to see you react to. Keep up the awesome content!
Woah hoho, this reaction was highly entertaining.Really enjoyed watching you sing along and bask in the movie vibe. lol Now with that being said kudos to Tim for making a movie outta trading Card series from Topps way way back.Anyways have a wonderful new year and keep up the good work darling !!! 👋😁🫱 (jazz hands)
The trading card set this is based on came out in 1962. They were designed by comics artist Wally Wood and they have that 50s Sci Fi aesthetic Wood was known for. The alien design is similar to the aliens in the 1957 Sci Fi film Invasion of the Saucer Men. The flying saucers are similar to the ones in the 1956 film Earth vs the Flying Saucers. The trading cards outraged 60s parents due to their explicitly violent imagery. One of the more notorious cards was titled "Destroying a Dog". A scene that is replayed in the movie. The controversy became so heated that Topps had some of the cards redone and the cards eventually ceased production. This lead to a complete original set of cards being worth several thousand dollars today. The movie sparked more interest in the cards and Topps produced more series of cards and comic books.
I think the insinuation of the mariachi band being there playing the nation anthem is that the aliens didn't give a shit about conquering Mexico, they were fine, so in the end Mexico had the kindness to help us out with humanitarian aid relief. Thanks Mexico!
I use to ❤ this movie as a kid such good entertainment in this film & I even remembered the commercials of the Mars Attacks action figures such good memories.
Looked through a book many years ago about potential alien life. They tried to take a little science into it. Had some wild creatures in mind. I remember a land based sort of starfish if the planet had a higher gravity. If the star was more intense the creature's 'skin' could be reflective to help regulate body temp. A fun read, like you mention, human arrogance almost always depicts aliens as bipeds looking pretty much just like us.
If you thought THIS movie was a good? Go watch Close Encounters of the Third Kind! That movie was made in the late 70’s and is astonishing for its time! If you are blown away by a 90’s movie being this good, Close Encounters will make you lose your mind!
It was based on Mars attacks the trading cards in the 60s. Before the movie and Comic books were ever invented. And of course before the Mars attack action figures from the 90s were ever invented either.
Based on trading cards, because of course. More Pierce Brosnan: James Bond, Remington Steele, The Thomas Crown Affair, Black Adam, Percy Jackson, Mrs Doubtfire, Mama Mia, Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga, Around the World in 80 Days, Robinson Crusoe, The Lawnmower Man, The Tailor of Panama, Riverdance, The World's End...episodes of Heritage Minutes, Moonlighting, The Simpsons... More young Martin Short: 3 Amigos, Innerspace, SCTV... "The Martians are calling themselves Martians?" I mean...it's going through a translator...
nicki, Topps is a trading card company , they had trading cards in wax paper wrapping like baseball cards with a stick of bubble gum in them, and the cards had pictures of martians attacking earthlings , they also had a series called Dinosaurs attack, where a mad scientist accidentally causes a time warp and dinosaurs start appearing and rocks too from the mesozoic era and they start eating people and some humans get stuck inside the newly appeared rocks, they didn't make a movie based on that line yet, maybe because they made jurassic park already
Yes, there ARE 'things like that' in the White House. It's not the 'Lincoln Bedroom' because he slept there- it's the room in which his autopsy was done! The Press Room used to be the WH swimming pool (put in by President Franklin Roosevelt) and was later covered by- I think- Pres Nixon. So much more~
I hope you can react to Billy Bob Thornton’s Sling Blade in the new year! It’s about the friendship between a boy and an axe murder. BBT wrote and directed it.

My opinions on alien life: there are too many worlds out there for there not to be life out there somewhere. But I doubt we've been visited by alien life. The burden of proof just hasn't been met. And I agree on what alien lifeforms would look like. Everything we imagine alien life to appear as, is through the lens of our own limited experience of life on this planet. So everything we can imagine will be within that context. Alien life will likely be well beyond our imaginations, especially if they've evolved to the point where our Stephen Hawking is as intelligent as their equivalent to a chimp who knows some sign language. If they're capable of interplanetary or possibly interdimensional travel, it's doubtful they would even be perceptible.

Judging from the title, I'm thinking "chill" is unlikely.

24:54 The Martians called themselves "ACK".
Our translation machine translated it as "Martian"
The nuclear energy wasn't like a whip it, it was like helium. It made the alien's voice higher.
The mother of the two class-skipping presidential rescuers is played by Pam Grier. you want to see her REALLY shine, I suggest seeing "Jackie Brown".
This movie is a parody and satire of old Sci Fi Alien movies, that’s why the characters have 1960s hair styles, clothing and they talk that way

Not a book. It was based on the set of Topps trading Cards!
Check them out -- they are awesome!
Idk if someone already replied, but the reason why the skeletons are red and green was because it was released on Christmas month
"Forget Grandma, she's halfway to outer space already!" .. harsh! o.o
In this Tim Burton movie they have two Batman villains JOKER 🃏 played by Jack Nicholson & THE PENGUIN 🐧 played by Danny Devito
The only other thing that I know that the actor playing Richie, the grandson, Lukas Haas, is that he was the title character little boy in 'Witness'.
And he's the guy who gets killed in Inception.
Lady in White (1988)
