A Chinese person or someone who only knows a small amount of Chinese or Japanese can learn it more faster, I only know a small amount of Chinese characters but I learning the difference between each piece is a breeze to me because Chinese characters are similar to Japanese Kanji. However, telling the difference of promoted pieces is much more harder because they are Japanese Hiragana and are completely different from Chinese Characters and they are in a Cursive format.
I was watching March Comes In Like A Lion. Nice drama anime, but it's set with the main character being a pro Shogi player. You don't need to know anything about Shogi to enjoy it, but I was completely lost during some of the parts. Searched RUclips, and found your vid. TY. Was exactly what I was looking for.
In the record of shogi Promoted silver is 全 Promoted knight is 圭 Promoted lence is 杏 Promoted pawn is と Promotrd rook is 龍 Pormoted bishop is 馬 (The character 龍 means dragon)
I watched this as someone looking to learn how to teach shogi to beginners. While I was aware of the yakuza games had shogi, I never expected the best English tutorial for the game in general to be for a video game. よろしくお願いします
Shogi is a fantastic game and I'm going to learn to play it with a great sense of pride and thankfulness. 将棋はファンタスティックなゲームであり、私は誇りと感謝の気持ちを持って将棋を学ぶつもりだ。 (通訳使用)
... I watched 2 videos from the guy you showed. Was going to watch through all of his. Probably still will. But this was a nice condensed version that answered so many questions nice and quickly! Thank You! I've been interested in shogi for a long while, but never found anything to actually learn from. My curiosity was rekindled by the anime "The Ryuo's Work Is Never Done"
thanks a lot! now i know and i read the books too! i spend 3 days to learn it and now one week later no one can defeat me even my auntie from japan and plays shogi! or should i say it's been 2 weeks i started to learn shogi! but it's strange i love chess but my skill doesn't improve i can't barely win but! this strategy game makes me easier! i know shogi is hard than chess but why do i feel easy to play? than chess game?
This is very similar to Crazy House Chess, just read on Wikipedia, Crazy House Chess is just Normal Chess, with the drop rule added from Shogi. So there you have it!
Im here because Shika from naruto kept playing shogi and other anime characters too they always play shogi like wtf is it and now im in yakuza 0 and seeing it agian its like i cant escape it and now im a pro player on my phone app
BRO WHAT? I wanted a chess variant, thought this would be cool (because it is just soooooooooo similar to real chess) and come to watch this video and i am beyond lost. wtf are the rules? Your video explains a ton but somehow learning more made me less confident to even attempt playing lol
I can't get any enjoyment from playing a CPU because it doesn't actually think. The CPU just searches through a database of recorded moves and looks up the best option. It's not that bad on the kyu ranks, but once you start playing on the dan levels, it's pretty much impossible to win unless you just find a shogi simulator with a better database than the one in Yakuza.
If you want this to be easy you can just install a shogi app, play against a pc with max difficulty. Then you just copy all the moves from the yakuza bot against the app bot and you will win
Ripstone games should turn Japanese Chess into a game available on all platforms. I am playing Chess Ultra right now and I think I might play Shogi if it is made right.
The hardest part is knowing which piece is which when you can't read the kanji.
Git gud
Inferior westerner. Can't read Kanji.
I've heard there are pieces with both an english letter representing the piece and the kanji.
A Chinese person or someone who only knows a small amount of Chinese or Japanese can learn it more faster, I only know a small amount of Chinese characters but I learning the difference between each piece is a breeze to me because Chinese characters are similar to Japanese Kanji.

Same ! they needed to translate this for us dumb people who can't read it lol otherwise I think I could play this game all day

Since I use the translation app, the sentence may be strange.

@@maritiafeighan7129 I came here after watching a video on how max out the "Confidant Rank" of Hifumi Togo from persona 5
I want to learn this because of ryou's work is never done
I've gotten very interested in shogi because of that anime. It seems very challenging and a lot harder than chess.
Yeah dude, same here
I've been looking for this comment ♥️
Same, seems so much harder than chess.
Bro I'm on Yakuza right now trying to learn how to play shogi I am a fan forever
Thank you for making a simple engaging video. March comes in like a Lion is an amazing anime.

I laughed so hard cause I watched Hidetchi before this :DDDDD
"Hi, welcome to shogi lesson number 2..."
I feel bad but I'm glad it made you laugh lol

Hes great tho
Hidetchi is good for when you want to master Shogi
@@interro588 4y/o comment btw
I've learned the basic move of chess in less than 10 min's. But this shoge daymn.
Everyone talking about Shikamaru which is still good but we gotta remember Asuma got him into Shogi lmao
Just played chess for so many years and felt i needed something fresh
Never heard of or played the game but this is a very nice and short Shogi introduction. Thanks!
Great job on this video. Answered all my questions to understand shogi
ah yes, dark souls chess
Where are the LASER BEAMS?
I see your a person of culture
I scroll down to the comments to see if anyone came here because of A Ryou's work is never done, but it was all naruto related 😢
The Platinum trophy made me come here...
Thanks for the over view of the game.
It complicated to read the rules.
Thanks for explaining the drops
I'd love to See this kinda thing for Mahjongg
Argh, I have to make my brain try to understand this. In time.
Has this been enough time?
chess player trying out shogi here
I need this to be the next *LOLI KING*
Shikamaru brought me here ... after the chunin exam
Damn, all the pieces look very similar, kinda hard to get a full understanding of the board.
Yakuza fan casually dropping the best shogi tutorial for beginners
Everyone saying Shikamaru but hifumi toga from persona 5 brought me here lol
Yakuza brought me, I keep losing this darn mini game
Lmao just went nn amazon and bought a shogi board for 139$.
Shogi is very interesting. Compared to the chess,The final stage is more complicated, and there is no difference between the first hand and late hand.
The only video that actually makes sense!
Where is that clip from 3:56 ?
The hardest part would probably remembering which piece is which if you're not used to the game
thanks a lot! now i know and i read the books too!
i spend 3 days to learn it and now
one week later no one can defeat me even my auntie from japan and plays shogi!
or should i say it's been 2 weeks i started to learn shogi!

this strategy game makes me easier!
i know shogi is hard than chess but why do i feel easy to play? than chess game?
Thanks man, I just unlocked Majima in 0 and stumbled onto the shogi guy and I was like "how the hell do I play this??"
If the yakuza games featured Go instead of Shogi, I'd buy every game just to enjoy that.
This is very similar to Crazy House Chess, just read on Wikipedia,
Crazy House Chess is just Normal Chess, with the drop rule added from Shogi.
So there you have it!
This is more complicated than chess
Is promoting a piece counted as a turn?
Who is watching Ryou's work is never done and was interested in shogi
PERFECT tutorial. subbed
This looks like so much fun, but it is so complex! Love it! Hahaha
Im here because Shika from naruto kept playing shogi and other anime characters too they always play shogi like wtf is it and now im in yakuza 0 and seeing it agian its like i cant escape it and now im a pro player on my phone app

We're on the same boat i see 🙂

I'm here after watching the ryou's work is never done
Where is the geezer shougi freakout from? I need to have it - resembles me too closely during my shougi matches!
It's very interesting that the yakuza fans and the March Comes In Like Lion fans cross over here.
BRO WHAT? I wanted a chess variant, thought this would be cool (because it is just soooooooooo similar to real chess) and come to watch this video and i am beyond lost. wtf are the rules? Your video explains a ton but somehow learning more made me less confident to even attempt playing lol
About time I need to learn how to play shogi despite I play the usual chess.
Promotions are optional unless you get to the last row
Whos here because they actually want to learn shogi and not because they watch anime
I'm here because I'm interested in all games of perfect information. I rank Shogi level 6, in order of complexity.
The Ryuo's Work is Never Done
Trying to press L1 irl doesn't bring up the ingame menu...
This was actually very informative
Persona 5 made me come to watch after I've heard a word first time: shogi. Then, I was like what the hell? That is why
00:20 is exactly what brought me here :D

I recommend a real player online. There are websites for players to play against each other.
A.i is yet to beat the best human players. Even AlphaZero merely competed against other a.i.
Everyone here because of some sort of Anime, but I'm here simply because I want to learn the game and how to play... Good video. 👍🏻
I'm interested since it's a Chess variant.
Me 2
Same here. I'm interested in making a.i for all games of perfect information.
I wanna master this game ahhh
Persona 5 Royal brought me here. Hifumi is my favorite confidant.
I cant win aganist the first oponent!! Its been a full month!!
I wanna learn Shogi because I was inspired by Ryuuou No Oshigoto
i came here not by shikamaru but by shikadai but i need to learn ninjutsu oh man thats such a drag
Wow i thought it’d be more complex
Complexity is defined by the total number of legal moves. In that regard, it's second only to Go.
Shion no ou brought me here.good old anime, like 200x old
Ryuuou No Oshigoto anyone???
Zero Two ME!
Me!!
If you want this to be easy you can just install a shogi app, play against a pc with max difficulty. Then you just copy all the moves from the yakuza bot against the app bot and you will win

Shikamaru and Hifumi from Persona 5 got me intrigued :D
Sir what is the name of the game that you are showing on the site and where we can download it
