Back to the Future is a 1985 American science fiction film directed by Robert Zemeckis, and written by Zemeckis and Bob Gale. It stars Michael J. Fox, Christopher Lloyd, Lea Thompson, Crispin Glover, and Thomas F. Wilson. Set in 1985, the story follows Marty McFly (Fox), a teenager accidentally sent back to 1955 in a time-traveling DeLorean automobile built by his eccentric scientist friend Emmett "Doc" Brown (Lloyd). While in the past, Marty inadvertently prevents his future parents from falling in love - threatening his own existence - and is forced to reconcile the pair and somehow get back to the future.
Gale and Zemeckis conceived the idea for Back to the Future in 1980. They were desperate for a successful film after numerous collaborative failures, but the project was rejected more than forty times by various studios because it was not considered raunchy enough to compete with the successful comedies of the era. A development deal was secured with Universal Pictures following Zemeckis's success directing Romancing the Stone (1984). Fox was the first choice to portray Marty but was unavailable; Eric Stoltz was cast instead. Shortly after principal photography began in November 1984, Zemeckis determined Stoltz was not right for the part and made the concessions necessary to hire Fox, including re-filming scenes already shot with Stoltz and adding $4 million to the budget. Back to the Future was filmed in and around California and on sets at Universal Studios. Filming concluded the following April.
Following highly successful test screenings, the release date was brought forward to July 3, 1985, giving Back to the Future more time in theaters during the busiest period of the theatrical year. The change resulted in a rushed post-production schedule and some incomplete special effects. Back to the Future was a critical and commercial success, earning $381.1 million to become the highest-grossing film of 1985 worldwide. Critics praised the story, humorous elements, and the cast, particularly Fox, Lloyd, Thompson, and Glover. It received multiple award nominations and won an Academy Award, three Saturn Awards, and a Hugo Award. Its theme song, "The Power of Love" by Huey Lewis and the News, was also a success.
Back to the Future has since grown in esteem and is now considered by critics and audiences to be one of the greatest science-fiction films and among the best films ever made. In 2007, the United States Library of Congress selected the film for preservation in the National Film Registry. The film was followed by two sequels, Back to the Future Part II (1989) and Back to the Future Part III (1990). Spurred by the film's dedicated fan following and effect on popular culture, Universal Studios launched a multimedia franchise, which now includes video games, theme park rides, an animated television series, and a stage musical. Its enduring popularity has prompted numerous books about its production, documentaries, and commercials.

All understandable comments here though consider that the original Marty McFly was to have been Eric Stoltz until he got into an argument with Bob Gale over how to portray the character. I stepped in and got Michael J Fox instead. Been the other co-creator ever since. A part 4 is more about introducing new actors to the role, to keep the franchise alive and inspire new audiences.

There will never be a Part 4. Bob Gale and Robert Zemeckis have stated many times that they will not allow a Part 4 or even a reboot/remake.

Marty, AKA "Calvin", did introduce Loraine to his "Uncle" Doc Brown in the first movie after she followed him to Doc's place. So once Marty left for 1985, Loraine would in 1955 would have already been acquainted with Doc Brown.
I mean... Hollywood has a flawless track record when it comes to revisiting the well of beloved franchises, like Matrix 4, Pirates 3-5, Fast & Furious 37?, Star Wars, Marvel... What could possibly go wrong?

I mean, Universal has already ruined "Ghostbusters", "Jaws", and Paramount has ruined "Spongebob" and "Tomb Raider", all because they want to shove 2010s 2020s propaganda that "NOBODY" likes. And they don't bother to make films heavily inspired, or heck, be similar to Back To The Future movie series. Just make another version of the franchise with new characters, new storylines, and you don't have to worry about your old franchises being ruined by 2010s 2020s politics of today.

No prequel. It was established in Back to the Future Part 1 that Doc had just invented the time machine. So either they'd be undoing the first three movies main plot element to how this all started, along with the whole "George and Lorraine don't recognize that Calvin Klein wasn't their son," because they would have known of time travel; or they would have a time travel movie, without any time travel.
Yeah but a prequel could explain how marty met doc, also you could have a scene where he tells them that Calvin is there son but it leaves a bit of a problem
If anyone is going to try to revisit the movie series. They can't simply add anything to the original movie series. They will have to redraft the whole series and give it a brand-new movie series. The new "Back to the Future" movie series will be significantly different to the original movie series of "Back to the Future".

I have a perfect way that it can be done with the original cast being completely involved. But I’m hesitant to post it out there anywhere and have somebody else get a hold of it. I would gladly give my ideas to anyone on the creative team to take and run with with no feesrequired on my part if they would be interested in doing this
Here's an idea for Back to the Future 4 that I would like to see, and hopefully others, on the screen before we lose Christopher and Michael to death's embrace. After visiting the future (though, they've already been there), Doc's family visits Marty in the year 2035. Marty is now a successful musician. At Lou's 90's Cafe, they inform Marty and Jennifer about the drastic change the Earth is about to undergo thanks to the effects of global warming, climate change, and the cosmic process. Marty is shocked to learn about the details of Earth's future and says, "that's some heavy news." Marty follows his routine and orders a drink but never finishes it. Doc and Clara share their plan with Marty on how to save Hill Valley and life as they know it. Biff overhears the conversation and exchanges pleasantries with Marty, Jennifer, Clara, and Doc. Biff offers his assistance as he is concerned for his family's safety and his own. Meanwhile, Doc has left the steam time train with Jules and Verne who are tricked by Tiff (Biff's granddaughter) into telling her how the time machine works. Tiff is the first in the Tannen family to become a scientist and has somehow predicted the Earth's future. Tired of being mocked by the media and her community, she throws the teens off the train, calls them buttheads, and heads to the future in order to escape the growing temperatures, rising sea levels, and the increase of gravity on Earth. Verne attempts to chase the train with Marty's hoverboard but is unsuccessful. Doc is shocked to learn about Tiff and these plot events and says, "Great Scott!" Nevertheless, Doc continues the plan and gains the sponsorship from the Hill Valley Preservation Society which is revealed to be a secret society that is responsible for maintaining the temporal junction point of the entire space time continuum. However, little do they know that Tiff has proliferated Earth's doom in the future by causing a third genesis flood. This comes about when she and her future self sell their idea of organic land mass production and alter their fate in the year 2055 by commercializing the control of submarine volcanoes. As a result, Earth's mass increases and a domino effect ensues. Back in 2035, Doc and the society set off on building a time traveling boat made from the homes of Lyon Estates and Hill Valley buildings (recycled materials). The courthouse's tower clock is upgraded with a flux capacitor and is placed at the boat's helm as the steering wheel. Of course, lightning (1.21 gigawatts) is needed to activate and power the time traveling boat at a specific time in the future. As per usual, Marty doesn't understand why a time machine has to be built out of a boat and Doc chastises him once more for not thinking 4th dimensionally.
He says his famous line, "where we are headed we still don't need roads," and he explains that after all the ice covering Antarctica, Greenland and mountain glaciers has melted, Earth's sea levels will rise 300 feet and open a water roadway around the globe. He also explains that the boat needs to be covered in interlocked leaves and a heavy magnetic field as they both repel water. Doc goes on to explain that this is necessary because the acceleration will be slower due to the weight of the boat and its occupants, so they will need more assistance to reach the max speed (88 mph) needed to break the time barrier and travel back to the future where Earth is habitable once more. Once the boat is built, Doc and Clara's next stage of the plan is to gather three pairs of every kind of animal and insect, a male and female. Doc and the residents of Hill Valley use shrink rays to capture and place the insects and animals in the boat. Next, they collect two pairs of all the kinds of plants, especially pine trees (making old man Peabody proud). After gathering everything they need, Doc and Marty break uncle Joey out of prison who is now 81 years old. In a flashback, it is revealed that Biff sent uncle Joey to rob the home of Emmett Brown's mother as initiation into his gang. Joey got caught and was arrested. Uncle Joey and Biff bury the hatchet and say to each other that their beef is in the past. The next stage of the plan is to wait for the day that Hill Valley will be covered by the ocean. During the boarding process, Marty finds the DeLorean's license/vanity plate (Outatime) and attaches it to the stern of the boat by using his hoverboard. The residents of Hill Valley shrink their belongings, board the boat, and wait for their transition into a brave new world. At night, Marty wakes up thinking he's had a nightmare and is consoled by his mother. The deadline approaches and the second genesis flood comes right on time (not affected by the actions of Tiff) and so does the lightning storm. The boat receives the bolt of lightning directly into the steering wheel's circuits and it starts to accelerate the boat around the globe; leaving behind a trail of fire on the ocean. The boat travels along the Earth's spin and around its axis arriving at the intended destination in the future where they retrieve Tiff and scold her for her actions. As her comeuppance, she is accidentally covered in the manure of the animals onboard the boat. They wait for the third genesis flood and once again the weather service is more reliable than the postal service. The steam time train is left behind on the train tracks and is consumed by the ocean. The lightning storm activates the time traveling boat once more and back to the future it goes. That same night, the McFly family and Tannen family have a dinner. It's revealed that McFly Jr. has a crush on Tiff and wins her affection in the style of George McFly. The occupants celebrate by having an Enchantment Above the Sea Dance on the boat's deck. Marty and McFly Jr. play a set of songs for the party guests. Later, the occupants arrive at a future moment in space and time where life is inhabitable again and start to rebuild civilization in the aftermath of the Earth's cataclysms spurred on by humankind's actions. The occupants/people release the animals, which reproduced during their commute, into the wild. The people rebuild Hill Valley and restore the courthouse and the clock tower to its former glory. Doc and his family stay in the future and vow not to meddle with time anymore; accepting the natural flow of time and remaining organic time travelers into the future, repeating historical arcs and all.

They need to make a movie from Telltale's back to the future 4 video game it all works out but a.i could be used to cover the Micheal j fox actors face who acts as Marty and use the voice actor who did Marty's voice in back to the future 4 video game
Tom Holland is the 2020 MJ Fox (sort of). I think he's as good a fit as you're going to get. Add SJ Jackson as doc and Zendaya as Jennifer and you'll have a hit. The story line doesn't have to follow the OG, that's done and dusted and besides with a time machine you can take the story anywhere and anywhen.
There can be a reboot if done right. Bring in another crew that cares about the franchise and its characters. It's like Deadpool. people didn't think it could sell but everyone was proven wrong

In one way I would like to see a part 4, but then the prequel would make sense. On the other hand even doing a prequel would end up spurring more sequels and so on, besides this was one of my favorite childhood movies during the 90s don’t mess it up .

It's a film series that a. Beloved treasure and should never have another film continue off it or an unnecessary rehashing of a reboot. As a fan keeping the integrity of the the actors and timelessly stories of the films are well enough explained. There will never prequel or remake or reboot even branch off the last one. It's not needed.
Back To The Future is my favorite franchise and I do not want to see another sequel, prequel or remake. That would ruin things for many. Just look at Indiana Jones and Star Wars post OT. Also Terminator as well. Anything after T2 (although I did somewhat like T3, not many did).
I mean, look what happened when Universal made Jaws III and IV, those two sure didn't turn out well back in the early 80s and ruined that franchise for good. Heck, with the Amityville horror being retold for the past 50 years, you have to wonder why there hasn't been any new stories due to the 2010s propaganda feminism antifa anti-social culture that we're stuck with for the next thiry years until a massive change occurs in this country, not to mention multiple civil wars going on in Gaza and Ukraine, and a potential World War III at some point in the future....I don't know man, I feel as if we need make new franchises that are similar to BTTF, but with new characters, plots, and locations that are different from BTTF, but has the same charm and wits as the original 1980s films and such. Plus, with the current landscape not wanting to be historically accurate to the past because of "Anti-Civil Rights" and some garbage like that...I don't know man, the future is 10 times more fucked than the past from before the 21st century ever did.

Actually there was a BTTF 4 but it caused a world wide apocolyps so they had to go back in time to stop it from being made.

I honestly think you could if done right! Make another stand alone trilogy that doesn't interfere with the originals!
What you do is, you don't have a sequel to the trilogy but rather instead have more of a spin off and in that movie you also include in it the ghostbusters movie number 6. In the Plot of that show, the guy ghostbusters decide to team up with the women ghostbusters on a group date until as they go on a quest together to prevent a spatial anomaly from getting worse and while they all look for ways into closing the rift, the flying back to the future train comes out of the anomaly with both Jules and Vern along with their wives, Cleopatra and Elizabeth, along with their dog Hawkins. The flying time travel train is now a 6 car train which also houses a rebuilt and re fixed time traveling DeLorean which is carried in the last car of the train. Turns out Jules and Vern have also detected the spatial anomaly from which they have been trying to find away to close it before it eventually turns into a black hole to finally consume the entire Earth from the future, and if they don't do this in time then eventually this also leaves open the opportunity for unknown dark entities to eventually exit it to consume all life on Earth. Dark Entities which are led into the world of the living by the now deceased Tannen family entities who come back to the world of the living to bring about their final vengeance. Both Jules and Vern have made an effort to find the ghostbusters entire team when the team comes together, by time traveling back into the past to acquire additional help to stop the animally before it also literally becomes a black hole only to consume the remaining of what's left of the Earth, and unfortunately just as when all seems to be lost, they all manage to escape into a parallel universe existence where levitation technology has not been made public yet, along with other such technologies. This leaves both Jules and Vern who are also now quantum scientists like their now deceased father, to try and figure out a way to stop the anomaly before it eventually penetrates into the now present existing time line too, from which to their surprise they discover that their father in this time line is actually still alive from which the entire group of them now seek out his help as they find themselves in the year 2025. Unfortunately Biff Tannen now taking on the form of a giant demon like creature manages to penetrate into this dimensional time line too, causing an additional spatial rift to occur, however the ghostbusters and team find a way to defeat him by bringing to life a now giant Lorraine blow up doll which was stolen from Biff Tannen and now enlarged and brought to life, which is now possessed by Lorraine's spiritual consciousness where she now takes it onto herself to also put a final end to Biff Tannen and the final battle begins with the help of the ghostbusters and all involved. Biff tries to burst her bubble, but Biff's final defeat leads to the closing of the rift from which everyone is now locked into the present universal space time line.
if they did come up with a fourth one, i can imagine it would be doc's kids Jules and Verne would be part of it.

Tom Holland might make a good Marty McFly. Not sure who you would get as a Doc Brown though. In essense, I don't mind a remake if it makes sense with the right cast and director. However, maybe there does not need to be more films.
I think if you had one of doc browns kid be the scientist and bring a new lead come in to hear the story of the older ones could be cool.
If a 4th movie is made make it take way after 3 a new story without disrespecting the original trilogy

I like many am not in favor of them expanding on these movies, whether they're prequels or whatever road they want to go down. Something will eventually get made though, it's Hollywood, they can't get out of their own way at times. The amount of money that could be made would rival any trilogy in today's world and that's just the movies, not the merch.
As much as I don't think this is a good idea, it will eventually happen. And what was mentioned in here about part 2 & 3, yeah, those weren't well received back then, they weren't terrible, not great either, adequate follow-ups. The original was a sleeper hit, Fox had only really been known for his role on Family Ties and Lloyd on Taxi with small movie roles mixed in here and there. Don't be surprised to see a company like Disney come along and put their spin on these movies. There's a lot of money to be made from this and in Hollywood that seems to be the only thing that matters nowadays.

I have never enjoyed this film, and not seen either sequel. I am 56, and thought at the time the future was reached in real life, it would have been left to the die hard fans. But no someone thinks a 3rd sequel is relevant. Not me. I don't dislike Michael J Fox, he's great in Frighteners and Mars Attacks. Shelve it 🙃
