so i can say yes you can watch a youtube video and repair a laptop. thanks to your videos i did another one. dead dell, no power no charging. opened it up and checked the main power rail. was present thru out the board. tried injecting voltage and using thermal camera. didnt inject... so i magnified it and checked board. found water damage by ec chip. cleaned it up and plugged power in. was checking power 5v and 3.3 volt on ec. 5 was present but no 3.3. then i felt a little shock in my hand resting on the power management chip. thought how can i get shocked and then it burnt me. lol, was sick. so power management chip is dead and now its not. thanks Sorin!

These macbooks are notorious for having their radeon gpu's overheat because of apple's bad cooling and lazy fan curves. I have fixed a couple of these by reflowing the gpu and fixing the cooling issues. One of the problems is that the air intake is in the crack between the screen and body, the same crack that the hot exhaust leaves through. You can drill holes in the bottom of the case right below the fans for intake and this helps the cooling a lot.

the cap probably had high ESR, so it was a must to remove it, otherwise the output voltage was dragged down to 0.3V.
