Thrice is badass. So versatile and creative. The entire Vheissu album is a masterpiece.
Truth
Facts. Vheissu is their Magnum Opus.
I can't believe you guys covered Thrice! I highly recommend "The Melting Point of Wax" and "Daedalus" back to back, as they lyrically compliment each other within it's own perspectives.
Hex Definitely. Melting point of wax is just a great use of that story to describe their decision to be full time musicians and Daedalus highlights anguish in a way the original myth doesn’t really touch on.
Coming soon, brother!
The lead singer/guitarist of this band, Dustin Kensrue, is a christian and he puts a lot of religious imagery in his music. He used to be a worship leader in a church. I think his solo work is considered actual christian music, but I don't think Thrice itself is a christian band.
Dustin was a worship leader for a HUGE church and was probably making good money, but when the head pastor Mark Driscoll was outed as an abuser, Dustin resigned. I don't share his beliefs, but I respect the hell out of Dustin's artistry and integrity.
Thrice is one of those bands that's Christian without calling themselves a "Christian band". Check out "Like Moths to Flames", it's another story taken directly from the Bible, and it should be obvious what it's about.
This is one of my favorite bands and there's a ton of great stuff in their discography. They've gone through a lot of stylistic changes over the years, and no matter what genre they fall into, they stand in their own place.
Alexandra Pierce very much like the band silent planet
Amazing band, they have some of the best lyrics in rock, period.
A large chunk of metal musicians are christian, or other abrahamic religion, so its nothing special.
wesley hudnall silent planet aren't really silent about their beliefs
yep! such a great band. i requested them to do the grey the day it was released. every one of their albums is different, and they're always evolving, can't wait for palms.
also i agree daniel, silent planet is more overtly a christian band than thrice. i know dustin is a christian (especially his solo stuff) but i'm not sure about the other guys. his lyrics are less worship-y in thrice for sure.
One of my favorite bands of all time. Not sure who requested this but kudos to them. You should do more of this band.
Thrice is a band that seems to never get notice for their work, I love that band.
Thrice is perfect for both of you, intellectually deep and musically dynamic with a touch of the faith. Listen to Black Honey by Thrice please! Love you guys.
Well said
I'm so surprised that you guys haven't done Thrice's whole discography. They're right up Vin's alley.
Nice to hear Thrice on your channel
Recommend
Thrice - The Artist in the Ambulance
John J great song!
The Illusion Of Safety, Identity Crisis..
Thrice - “Beggars” would be cool too the build up is slow, that ending gives me the tingles every time. To many great songs can’t wait for there new stuff.
This singer is a Christian. He was partner singer in wolves at the gate from Ohio an amazing Christian metal group!
Thrice, hometown band, one of my absolute favorites. Do more Thrice! Stare at the sun. The lead singer / guitarist was a director of worship
So so much good Thrice to listen to!
22:42-23:34 Wow...never thought of it that way. Thank you for the thoughtful discussion of one of my favorite songs!
I don't think they'd label themselves a "Christian band", but they have an incredible amount of material that explores faith and doubt in a Christian context, often pulling from biblical and historically Christian landmarks and narratives.
I think to most people I'd qualify as an atheist, but I've listened to and enjoyed Thrice for about fifteen years now. They're fantastic.
On that note, one of my favorite (religiously inspired) Thrice songs is "Firebreather" - I think you both would enjoy it.
Firebreather is amazing. I'd have to say my favorite Thrice song is Of Dust and Nations.
Man I've been recommending thrice for a long time meow. Lol. Hilarious seeing all the peeps on here now showing all the support for thrice
Dustin is an amazing lyricist and wears his faith on his sleeve. He has been doubting in the last few records but it's fun to be on a journey with him since about 2002-2003. This song is from Vheissu - my favorite by Thrice along with Beggars.
I don't usually comment in videos, but since you're reacting to my favorite band, I can't help but recommend a reaction for Words in the Water, definitely one of their best songs
I agree. That would be an incredible song to do. I'd also love for them to review The Weight of Glory. Thrice is my favorite too. Just saw them again last month.
They just did Words In The Water, brother! Enjoy it!
@@Darrkness They also just reacted to The Weight Of Glory, man!
@@ayotrippin I just saw that! Thanks for showing them such a great and underrated band, you're awesome.
@@joaobaggio6240 For sure, brother. Stick around, there's way more coming up.
One of my favorite bands of all time and Dustin is a fantastic lyricist.
more thrice, please! "come all you weary" is one of my favorites :3
Coming soon!
Dustin Kensrue is an amazing wordsmith that can make the Bible very interesting musically. Thrice has hard leanings to Christianity but doesn't solely focus on that, there's a lot of critiquing the human condition and some songs are just about life. It's an even spread.
Wow I was not expecting you guys to do Thrice, great band though
The Faceless - Sons of Belial
Thrice is one of the greatest bands. Powerful heartfelt lyrics. Entire discography is on point. Lead singer versatile.
Amazing song from an amazing album. Of course, I never had any idea what the lyrics were about. Thank you both for your analysis. Makes the song that much better.
You guys need to do "Earth Will Shake". It's from the same album as this song. The whole album has a lot of religious themes.
thrice - black honey
YES!!!!
Yes!! That song can have so many different meanings
@@herbivore7108 yeah but the band has given the meaning in interviews before.
Do it
Another good song by Thrice you guys can check out is Black Honey
I can’t believe I missed this.. these boys are so talented
They're not a Christian band, but Dustin Kensrue, the leader of the band and singer, is. He sings even more explicitly about his faith in his solo works
@@Music.Movies.67 are you threatened by that?
Justin Byrne his recent lyrics seem to suggest he is questioning his faith a bit, but regardless of being religious, the singer is one of the best lyricists in the game
@@Music.Movies.67 to each their own, but you just had to make a negative comment?
@@divided123 he's never been a shallow sheep of a Christian.
I think a lot of people familiar with the band would say their roots began in the punk scene. Nowadays they’ve evolved into more of an arty rock band. They’re not as aggressive as they used to be but they still write something with some bite. “Blood In The Sand” comes to mind off their last album.
They followed up this album with a collection of four mini albums (EPs) each inspired by an element (fire, water, earth, and air). Each album had a unique production and writing approach which definitely flexed the band’s knack for creativity.
Definitely a band you check out more
LOVE LOVE LOVE!!! Thrice is one of my favourites, and Dustin one of my favourite lyricists and vocalists. A band that hasn't sat in a box either musically or spiritually (queue newest song 'Only Us') Thanks for doing this video guys, I'm a happy man :D Any more of their songs would be deeply appreciated, or...... Silent Plant!!!
Thrice are amazing, brilliant musicians. This whole album is a master piece in my opinion .
I think you guys became fans after this song lol. Awesome breakdown 👍🏽
Truth
Awe, wish it would have been Black Honey by Thrice. Seriously amazingly amazing heartfelt song. A friend who works away showed me it one day and I was straight up hooked listening to it. The music video is kind of cool, and then the follow up Hurricane is amazing as well.
PLEASE dooooo them!!!
Love me some Thrice. And Behemoth, obviously. Lol.
It was dope seeing you get a little emotional when you realized what he was singing about. I REALLY hope you dug into Thrice more. They're amazing.
Thrice! Nice to step out of the box
Black Honey Next
U sir have my last name...
Seeing someone react to this for this first time gave me chills. It's great to see other people experience the same feelings as you at almost the exact same part of a song and almost twice as awesome when
you realizee that it's do to the actual lyricism. We're talking about lyrics utterly moving people, not a beat drop or breakdown. That's becoming very rare.
Yay! My request! I thought you guys might dig this one! The other commenters are correct in that the lead singer Dustin puts a lot of his faith into his lyrics, but it is usually with depth and some subtlety. I also admire some of their social justice messages in some of their stuff. The flames of azure are actually referring to St Elmos Fire I think. If you want more Thrice almost anything on Artist in the Ambulance or Vhiessu would be my suggestion.
Also... I love how when he first goes in the water the guitar almost sounds like a whale.
This analysis is amazing, please do more THRICE, Dustin is an amazing lyricist!!
This was a great reaction.
Thrice is one of my all time favorite bands, and Vheissu is a masterpiece.
They are not a christian band... But they are great! Thanx for doing them!!! There are so much more things for you to discover, if you dig this one: BOY SETS FIRE, GLASJAW, AT THE DRIVE-IN, MODERN LIFE IS WAR, PROPAGHANDI, TOUCHE AMORE..... But OK, One is better than none;-)
Thrice is so good. Saw them for the first time this year. Thrice- Anthology puts me in my feels every time.
Glad u has chance to see them live. I seen them on my 21st birthday in Vegas 16 yrs ago! I want to see them again.
A Perfect Circle - The Noose!!
First concert I ever went to was taste of chaos With Thrice, Bullet for my valentine and more In 2004! Image of the invisible is another good one! Surprised to see a thrice reaction !
Best band on earth. Finally people are starting to realize.
omg nice that you did this song :D its one of my favourites ! i were just looking waht reactions you have done and found this :D nice ! :)
Thrice, yessss! Not sure if you guys remember but i asked for you guys to do the grey by them the day it came out months ago. Great band, can't wait to watch your breakdown after work!
Thrice is an amazing band, some great songs are Daedulus, The Artist in the Ambulance, The Melting Point of Wax, Deadbolt, Red Sky, Dust of Nations, The Earth will shake, Stand for your Worth, Stare at the Sun, Fire-breather, Come all you Weary, Moths to Flame. Thrice has involved in their years. They can play many different types of musics and do it very well. Look into this band and react to them I promise you wont be disappointing. Thank you for this video.
Thrice! That's a band I don't hear about too often
Good stuff
EPICA - Consign to Oblivion (Live at the Zenith)
It's amazing watching them react to Thrice for the first time again. Especially considering how every time they listen to Thrice now, they seem impressed.
Thrice is terribly underrated. Not christian. But they're great. Very consistently good.
Not sure they are underrated, they get a lot of well deserved praise.
There are only so many people with good tastes.
Thrice used to be one of my favorite bands! Dustin Kensrue is such a good lyricist that I actually appreciate the Xtian imagery.
Their earlier stuff is even better - Identity Crisis & Illusion of Safety are awesome albums.
the illusion of safety is arguably one of the most influential newish post-hardcore albums, so so good
@@BliboranBass
They don't nake 'em like that anymore...
Thrice - Death From Above is also a great reaction song.
Glad to see you guys reviewed Thrice. If I may, I'd like two recommend two songs. The first one is on the more mellow side " For miles". The second one is on the hard side "Two what end".
Hey guys you gotta catch up on this band , this album came out in 05, them and their lead singer has released so much great music since then. Love this review
Let's get some more Between the Buried and Me up in here!
Hating me is conforming
I’m trying to get them to do the band that came before BTBM, Prayer for Cleansing.
The frontman Dustin Kensrue is a Christian and used to be a Preacher a few years back but some financial issues with the head of Diocese that was really bad or something like that I'd Wiki it or something for more details. They mainly use biblical references, if not some Roman and Greek mythology, a lot in there earlier work even more so on the album Vheissu, which this song is on and it's just as good live in concert! I mean they have a song called Image of the Invisible for Pete's sake! Dustin's solo stuff is good too and most of his stuff as a singer/songwriter bleeds into Thrice's stuff as of lately, and they have been really damn good since they have been back in 2016 and they have a new album out in a few weeks called Palms! So yeah more Thrice for sure! \m/
Katatonia - Leaders
Katatonia - Leaders ^^^^^^^
Great song, really enjoyed it I will have to listen to more thrice I think
Dustin Kensrue (Lead singer) is an amazing lyricist, and ALOT of his lyrics are very christian/biblical. The band is not Christian, but Dustin very much is - and pulls deep on his Christianity for his lyrics.
Hello guys, first of all: 13. I think it would be fun to hear Vin telling the Jonah story. Second this song was more than I expected, very good song Thanks a lot.
I hope you evetually get to react to "The Oath" by Merciful Fate, you will enjoy it.
Although Thrice are not exactly a Christian band, Dustin Kensrue the lead singer is. He works a lot of religious imagery into his lyrics and uses the messages found within religious text to inspire his lyrics.
Dustin has also released true worship music under the name "The Water & the Blood" and also released a few solo records which are fantastic.
You will find a lot of religious elements to Dustins lyrics throughout his projects.
Thrice is my favourite band, a big part of this is because of Dustins lyrics. Although I am an Atheist, I do recognise religous text and the stories contained within can help you better yourself and help you live a better life.
Katatonia - My Twin
Gotta do more thrice I suggest- witches burn, cold and hearts and cold hands, abolition of man. All great tunes by them
Thrice are an amazing band! How about more amazing bands like Architects, Every Time I Die, Stick to Your Guns, Counterparts, Greyhaven, Like Moths to Flames...
Justin Wlazlo the boys in ETID would dig this. I could maybe even push for them to do an interview. Greyhaven are our local boys. Good band. Jesse Barnett of STYG is such an amazing writer and genuinely cares about making the world a better place. I’ve requested STYG a few times even shared a live video on their fb. Jesse had a great message before they played.
Raijin-ryu X24 couldn’t agree more. Nowadays with the various music apps and sites, well there is a lot of music out there. I tend to support the bands who not only have a real message that they’re pushing but actually are doing something about it. There are many other bands I forgot to mention like Thy Art is Murder, In Hearts Wake, (older) Parkway Drive, etc... but my “Holy Trinity” if you will is Every Time I Die, Architects, and Stick to Your Guns. Great bands with quality human beings to represent the genre.
You guys have the top viewed thrice reaction on RUclips, you should really consider doing more Thrice, the lead singer also being Christian seems like it’d be right up your alley.
My favorite band eva. Dustin is an amazing lyricist
Dustin, the lead singer, has a worship album and was also a pastor in Irvine California.
Dustin wrote this in the Special Edition booklet of this album:
"These are some of my favorite lyrics on the record. The song in general was probably most inspired by the chapter in the book called 'The Sermon,' which is a retelling of the story of Jonah, and is in my opinion the best part of the book, coupled with the previous chapter, 'The Pulpit.' I'm a real nerd for alliteration and this song is saturated with it..." "I was reading 'Moby Dick' a little while before I wrote this, and a lot of the images are inspired by parts of that book."
This song is a piece of pure perfection.
You guys could probably do the whole Vheissu album and be just as intrigued.
Another one I just thought of is Silhouette.
Yessss Thriceeee!!!!! I love them. Check out Impending Doom “War Music”.
Impendind Doom is amazing!!!!
Serpent Servant is a great album.
Hello, I wanted to say thank you for the response from you guys to my comment on one of your A7X RUclips videos. I wanted to say that I am a huge fan of your reaction videos because I get to see how you guys perceive the songs. I know a lot of rock and roll (old and new), punk, alt/progressive rock. Check out the Thrice album To Be Everywhere is to Be Nowhere
So this is the first video of yours that I have seen and I really enjoyed the lyrical analysis. If you enjoyed Thrice and the religious reference, another song by them you might enjoy analyzing is The Messenger off of The Alchemy Index Vol. I: Fire.
When's the ''Faw shaw'' shirts coming?
I was thinking the other day that you guys should do Thrice. Such a fucking amazing band! Dustin Kensrue, the lead singer, does put Christian themes in some of his songs but it is a band that can be enjoyed even by the secular. The lyricism he shows is amazing. My musical taste has some crazy dichotomy because I love Thrice and I love Ghost. Check out Daedalus or Music Box next.
Thrice - Black Honey, please
Great band. Thrice has always been a constant play through the years in my "playlist".
My usual requests:
For Today - Break the Cycle or Pariah
Sleeping Giant - No Love, Tithemi or Father of the Fatherless
My Heart To Fear - 414 Days, Angst or Wish You Were Here
Looks like me and my wife when we listen to thrice ❤️
Awesome video!!
Much love for ya'll!
Satyricon - The Pentagram Burns!!!
Or king
King Diamond At The Graves
whole album is excellent!
Hmmmm possibly new fans. Thrice is my favorite band been with them since the beginning! I'm 37 seen 70+ bands music taste goes from Queen, Pennywise and Hawthorne Heights, Bush, mgk, Nofx, 2 Shadows Fall. This band Thrice is fanfukintastik...quoted once as the" thinking man's rock music" Bands want 2 evolve...AFI and Thrice have done so with much obvious success these 2 bands over the yrs sound like 5-6 Different bands completely, that's talent and heart!
hi vin and sori : thrice - in exile.
Dustin from Thrice has since had a falling out with his church. There new album is going to be very different. Check out The Grey
“Words darker than their wings” By Alter Bridge live at the Royal Albert... come onnn please it’s time for some Alter Bridge
Throwing out good tunes for funsies:
Wardruna: Helvegen
Borknagar: to mount and rove
Akado: oxymoron no2
Blaqk audio: anointed (electronic band featuring Davey and Jade from A.F.I.)
Iamx: bring me back a dog
Radiohead: lucky
After forever: come
ReVamp: disdain
Northward: while love died
Nightwish: Yours is an empty hope
Bauhaus (anything by them is good stuff)
*The cure: lullaby* (because the lyrics are REALLY interesting imo... Posted below in comment )
Lullaby:
On candy stripe legs the Spiderman comes
Softly through the shadow of the evening sun
Stealing past the windows of the blissfully dead
Looking for the victim shivering in bed
Searching out fear in the gathering gloom and
Suddenly
A movement in the corner of the room
And there is nothing I can do
When I realize with fright
That the Spiderman is having me for dinner tonight
Quietly he laughs and shaking his head
Creeps closer now
Closer to the foot of the bed
And softer than shadow and quicker than flies
His arms are all around me and his tongue in my eyes
Be still be calm be quiet now my precious boy
Don't struggle like that or I will only love you more
For it's much too late to get away or turn on the light
The Spiderman is having you for dinner tonight
And I feel like I'm being eaten
By a thousand million shivering furry holes
And I know that in the morning I will wake up
In the shivering cold
And the Spiderman is always hungry
I’d prefer them just doing AFI (older) instead. Also, wardruna.
Black Honey by Thrice
Being As An Ocean- Death's Great Black Wing Scrapes the Air. You guys would love that song and the lyrics.
THRICE YES!!!!!!!
You guys need to do more thrice! Listen to For Miles, another song that tells a story from the bible.
The lead singer used to be the worship leader of mars hill. All the music he writes go back to his roots. Words in water are their best lyrics. It’s about how the word of God saved him.
best band ever
Hahaaah, nice elements in it. Quite alternative. Very nice you gave them airplay. I guess by now you have seen my request of ALLEGAEON. Would you like to react to one of their songs? They're a melodic technical metal band and don't get much airplay on the reaction channels. They are really amazing. Wizardry on 8string leadguitars.
Try Proponent for sentient III.
They've got some really great song , they range in style a bit though from this to like folk rock, great musicians though
ima need you guys to dissect more thrice lyrics please and thanks
Deftones - Leathers
Awesome 👏🏻 video
