You need to keep your back leg down when punching. 0:51 and 0:56 You are also dropping your left hand before attacking AKA telegraphing. Also pumping your right hand at 1:42 before attacking, (telegraphing) and the back leg is coming up. If your back leg comes up your punch has no power. All of this doesn't matter if your just trying to get points at a tournament. 90% of the judges these days have no idea anyways.
Man this really takes me back. Started Shotokan in 3rd grade. Through my teenage years I was fortunate to be a part of the USA team and compete at the Pan's and World Cup. Shotokan started me on a great path.
Don't worry about the dislikes they are just jealous of you. The energy it needs to perform these actions smoothly is too much. Respect for you from Shotokan practitioner.
Wow, thank you for your comment bro. Respect to you too my friend :) Shotokan is very difficult to perform properly, you must have a very experienced eye for detail. What rank are you?
they who dislike the vid, maybe because they think this is not real karate, or call it sport karate.. I dont have any problem with that, it's just my speculation.. everyone has their own way..
Perhaps due to some people seeing karate as an inferior martial art or "sport martial art" and or simply not seeing it as viable in a street figh". It doesn't matter what martial art you practice to me. I respect anyone who can put in the time and effort to perfect their craft. I box and while I personally don't agree with all techniques in this video, I also understand at the same time karate is a different martial art entirely. Keep up the good work Jason.

Dear Jason, Thankyou for the useful video. I was wondering if you could provide a slow version of the side step punch and switch step punch? I can get it from the video. Thanks again
Jason Leung there semi effective by if someone where to what to jolt foward in a side kick it would work well but ones that are earlyer into sparing it will work well
Jason Leung I’m not saying there useless there great recoveries and ways of fighting I just see a lot of possible ways of countering fast and even getting a combo of someone were to be fast enough

Looks good ,and good exercise even if not still doing kumite.I still use my Makiwara board and heavy bag for exercise even though I stopped training in 1980 ( I am 80 ) .
I bought maki in 1975 .I have it concreted in the floor of my garage. It is not only good to actually hit something hard training ,its good exercise and leaves me puffing and panting after each session .At my old dojo many years ago when we had to stand facing each other and we did chudan punch to soto uke/ block,I always could power through the block and punch the other guys chest ( not too hard ) if they complained ,sensei would say ,stop complaining you should be able to block his chudan punch .I put it down to me being the only one in the dojo that had and used a makiwara punching board.
Cuban boxing style is “hit and don’t get hit”? If so, shotokan would be best for you, kyokushin fighters like to stand toe to toe and beat each other up
This video is one of my variations of a karate blitz, but I may make another one. Watch and tell me if you would like me to do a more specific combination.ruclips.net/video/2D5nLxhtdYM/видео.html
Jason Leung yes this video was the stuff I was looking for thank you. Yeah I just wanted see blitz where u close the distance and throw a lot of combinations 😊 thank you
Great question, the key is to never "wind up" your techniques. Don't bring your arm back to deliver a stronger punch. Just throw your techniques straight from your guard.
Even as a point fighter you shouldn’t be dropping your hands and disengaging between techniques. Between combinations you need to stay engaged as if still in the fight. This creates opportunity for attack when your opponent makes those mistakes as well. Don’t leave yourself vulnerable.
Dexter Jones when I’m in guard I’m in guard. But when I drop my hands it’s to loosen up tension. If you ever watch boxers and the most high precision strikers hit pads or shadow box of course when they’re engaged their hands are up, but when it comes time to relax they are shaking at their hands, their, shoulders, their necks. So I understand what you’re saying, but in my book this is the reason for doing what I’m doing. I agree, that this shouldn’t be taught immediately to beginners and strict form should be maintained, but after years of practice, you learn energy efficiency
Hey jason im about 200 pounds and 5’11 but my body doesnt really say bouncing for me. Should i bounce when i fight or stick to a more kyokushin style footwork?

Very basic and semi effective as I see but will work for those bearly coming in
Not sure what you mean? What are you trying to say?!
Jason Leung there semi effective by if someone where to what to jolt foward in a side kick it would work well but ones that are earlyer into sparing it will work well
Jason Leung like in the dodge + spring jab a side kick would be critical and could blow the air out of ones who geting the kick
Jason Leung I’m not saying there useless there great recoveries and ways of fighting I just see a lot of possible ways of countering fast and even getting a combo of someone were to be fast enough

Hey jason im about 200 pounds and 5’11 but my body doesnt really say bouncing for me. Should i bounce when i fight or stick to a more kyokushin style footwork?
이치고 you should just settle your gravity, but also be light and adaptable, you don’t need to bounce all the time, but learn how to move light
as a boxer, i'm completely alienated by those stances lol
if you look at floyd mayweather, he has a pretty wide stance himself, and does a lot of in out movement.
