    When replacing the upper control arms, many people forget about the axle housing bushings. These mount on the axle housing itself, and if they are worn out, you will not get optimum performance. Today, we're going to show you how to install them on our 2001 Mustang Bullitt.

    Tools great. Too bad the bolt and nut that come with it are made out of cheap brass that strips out after pulling one bushing out

    This process is a major pain in the ass. They make it look very easy in the video with air tools. If you have a Panhard Bar and you want to try this in the driveway on your back, I wouldn’t even attempt it. . Take it from me. 8 hours for just the passenger side only.

      Were you using the tool they showed? I am pretty cheap, but decided to just buy it or else I could see myself spending an entire day on this.

      You can tell that mustang was not from where things really rust. Lol

      My reason for searching for vids was to see if the rear end needed to be dropped. I'd think dropping it would be much easier to remove the bushing and put in if you did not have the tool.

      Took me like 3-4 hours to get only one side out then when installing the new one the threads on the bolt stripped. Went to Lowe’s for a new bolt but of course they didn’t have that size. Had to go to a hardware store but no more day light left. Have to do the other side another day. Ugh. Oh by the way the exhaust will have to be dropped

      I imagine the process is essentially identical. Both use the 8.8 rear-ends and have nearly identical lay-outs. I'm fine with this video working on my own 06 mustang using this for reference.

    I plan to rebuild my stock upper control arms. Can this tool be used to remove the bushings on the body side of the UCA just like on the axle side? Thanks in advance.

    • @Zerogivengarage
      @Zerogivengarage 8 лет назад

      +CoffeeDrinker71 There is no bushing pressed in the body side, its part of the control arm.

    • @CoffeeDrinker71
      @CoffeeDrinker71 8 лет назад

      +Bill Tumas Correct, I meant can this tool be used to remove the bushing that is pressed into the UCA? This video shows it being used to remove the bushings pressed into the axle, but when you remove the UCA there are bushings in the UCA itself. I would like to change those out as well. I'm keeping the stock UCA's.

      @@sergiomurillo9930 probably not.. the tool gets a little roughed up when using it ... those bushings are pressed in the diff super tight. when i did bushings on my 96 gt i tried to use a 3lb hammer n a large cold chisel an didnt do much other than destroy the old bushing along with my shoulder ..in a time crunch i used my harbor freight ball joint press an it popped out with way less effort ...still kinda a b1tch trying to hold up the press and cups and tighten everything .. duct tape helped to hold the cups together while tightening the press if you get someone to help you it wont be to hard to do im always solo when i need to work on my car ... my exhaust is dumped right before the axle so that gave some extra room .. its not a super hard job but it can be a little difficult without a tool to press bushing out/in
