  • The lead pointer sharpener is used to sharpen the leads in a Staedler Mars 2mm technical clutch pencil. It's a bit different than a typical sharpener, so I show you how to use a lead pointer sharpener.

Thank you for showing me how to use this one. I literally went and bought and old vintage point sharpener because I thought these ones were garbage that never worked.

Super helpful. I just had my Staedtler delivered a few hours ago along with the lead point and had no idea how to sharpen it.

I got one in college for the arch program and I’m guessing I must have used it at least a few times. But I have kept my supplies with me since I graduated and just pulled it out because I vaguely recalled it was for sharpening but totally forgot what specifically it sharpened! Thanks for reminding me - I just need to go dig out those pencils I know I have in my supplies box. Good thing I also kept my regular standard sharpener that comes with a lot of charcoal pencil sets.
One piece of advice: It would have been a nice finish at the end of the video to just draw a line with each of the pencils to show how the sharpness changes the line qualities. You had the clean paper right there and the pencils in your had with the tips almost touching the paper- I was totally expecting that to happen and left a bit anxious with no resolution. Haha. But great video - you have such a naturally clear soothing voice and well explained without unnecessary wordiness (your words were efficient and you said what needed to be said with fewer but wisely chosen words that most people seem to.

Wow, I have this sharpener but didn't realise what the other 2 holes did, even though it shows on the box. Actually it clicked in my mind now because I need different line thicknesses for my technical drawings, and those 2 holes making a finer and thicker points might be perfect for the job.

When you get a view or a comment, you know someone just bought a Staedtler Lead Pointer Sharpener.

I find it only works on my Staedtler 2mm lead holder but it creates such a great point.

Do you know a way to clean it safely? Considering it’s lead and all.

    • @theweekendbeckons9439

Pencil lead is usually graphite! Lead is an older term so there’s no danger of lead poisoning from a graphite pencil.

I have a BAILE 2m and I can't sharpen it with this. It always breaks. No grinding noise, quite, does it not work with other pencil types?

    • @theweekendbeckons9439
      @theweekendbeckons9439  6 месяцев назад

I haven't tried the Baile brand but I have read that they specifically don't fit into the Staedler lead pointer. I have no idea why because you'd think 2mm is 2mm but I guess not.

Is there not a sharpener in the top section? There is on my 2mm pencils.

    • @theweekendbeckons9439

Not on the pencils themselves! That would be very handy.

At some point take the top off and turn the lead in the top hole, mine has a sharpener.

I just received mine. Amazon, and it does NOTHING. Except It breaks the lead on all mechanical pencils I own. When turning it no sound, it is not doing anything but maybe a half inch of lead is gone

It's good for architecture but for drawing it's bad and sandpaper is much better because we need a built shape

Are you using the 2mm thick lead? If it’s the thin lead that’s typical with your average mechanical pencil, I suspect it wouldn’t work properly.
