Learn to paint a strawberry in acrylics!
I love summertime because it’s berry season! I love strawberries so much and they’re fun to paint too. I’ll show you how to paint a strawberry in acrylics.
Strawberries are a simple subject to paint because they’re kind of an oblong ball-ish shape on one end, that tapers to a rounded point on the other end. Just think of it as a larger round ball connected to a smaller round ball with a tapered tube.

Protecting gouache paintings with wax medium

I love painting with gouache, particularly with the traditional gouache that can be rewet after it dries. That, of course, causes a bit of a challenge once you’ve finished your painting as it’s at risk of damage from water. This is where wax medium can save the day! Thank you for this, it's very helpful!
thank you!
I love paint and have both.
The pencil has a built in lead pointer
@@j4hrul391 some do but the ones I have unfortunately don’t so a separate sharpener is needed
Oh bummer
Thanks for the work… in future videos, you should try to eliminate the brush cleaning noise.
@@DrJohnJunghans I’ve made that change for the newer videos!
Good explanation, thanks!
Thank you for the video!! I bought yellow oxide instead of ochre to paint along with Bob Ross (naturally 😅) and I thought I really screwed up big time but comparing them online I couldn't really see much of a difference. This video is very helpful!! Would you recommend adding some red to the oxide to make it more ochre-y?
@@onthe_tlctip you could add the tiniest bit if you’d like but I would probably use it as-is
Thanks that was very helpful! ✏️
Hi! Can I use this recipe fir mixed berries ?
I don't know if it would work. I tried with sour cherries, thinking that they'd be sour enough but it didn't work. It was very sweet and cloying. Raspberries have just the right level of sourness for this recipe.
Awesome Video Thanks! What happens when the eraser gets dried? can It be fixed?
@@raynazario6495 I’ve never had it dry out. Maybe after decades, but in that case, I might just toss it and get a new one.
very good presentation. thank you.
INSTRUCTIONS that came with Sta-Wet : 1-SOAK - just one piece- of the white paper sheets in HOT TAP WATER. (I fill up my clean sink about 1-2 inches of hot water to do this) OR put piece of white paper in a microwave safe bowl & microwave 3-5min or until water boils. 2- YELLOW SPONGE is to be SOAKED in cold water & wring out 1/2 of the water of sponge. 3- Place the SPONGE in first, smooth side up, then your paper. Use a paper towel to wipe off excess water. If it’s the 1st time using sponge- rinse it thoroughly under RUNNING water. DARK COLORS sometime bleed so FYI CLEAN UP- simply rinse out the sponge, you can do the same with the paper. Doesn’t have to be perfect! Especially if you’re using good quality paints. ❤
As I was standing literally 1 hour ago in front of the store shelf and tried to guess, which white I need, I ended up buying neither, but now I know that I should probably head back and buy Titanium white. Thank you so much for your video and it couldn't come on more right time. :D
Should I scrape the paint that dried off then soak it I only used it once so far. But paint is drying so I can scrape off paint and reuse the same side of paper or flip paper
@@brandyabdelaziz4430 you can scrape off the paint and then wipe clean with a paper towel. If I find it’s drying, spritz it with water to keep it from drying
Is there not a sharpener in the top section? There is on my 2mm pencils.
Not on the pencils themselves! That would be very handy.
At some point take the top off and turn the lead in the top hole, mine has a sharpener.

Mine didn’t come with directions and I couldn’t figure out why I payed 20$ for it! Then I discovered you have to add water but I didn’t know how so thank you thank you thank you so much!!!
I keep breaking my leads. Still😢
Oh no! That's such a disappointment. How heavy are you pressing? Or maybe it's the brand of lead?
It's good for architecture but for drawing it's bad and sandpaper is much better because we need a built shape
It's definitely not for all drawing applications but I still really enjoy using them for the drawing I do.
Thanks so much! I am brand new at this. I bought a couple pair of these from Blick and I couldn’t figure out why they didn’t snap together like yours do. It turns out they come in different sizes. Now Blick has a selection and I bought a few. Thanks for all of your pointers.
Glad to hear my video helped!
beautiful resource thank you!
Thank you for this! My limited palette for starting a painting has two blues- Golden ultramarine and pthalo (green shade). I wanted to try the red shade but after seeing your video, I think that the green shade looks snappier and more of contrast to ultramarine, so I think I'll stick with the green shade.
Hello 👋🏼. Thanks for this review! Have you tried using disposable pallets with watercolour since uploading this video? Does it stain? Can I just wipe it clean and use the paper again?
I haven't tried it with watercolour since uploading this. Theoretically you could wipe it off and use the paper again but the other side isn't waterproof so you might run into issues getting more than one use out of it unless you're very careful with your mixes and wiping it clean.
@@theweekendbeckons9439 Thanks!
Loved the video you shot before landing, very dense mountains in Peru.
It was really cool to see the view from the plane and see the neatly arranged houses below. and I can see fields of beautiful yellow Canola flowers greeting from England
One of my Dream Fruit Tree 😍🤗🌿☀️
How long do these last
If properly dried, they can last for years. I have some on my dresser from several years ago.
I was searching for advice on cleaning this paint because I read that it's not supposed to go down the drain 😬
Thanks for posting! I reached out to the company to clarify. The information on not putting the ink down the drain only applies to the ink alone. When cleaning with soap, it's perfectly safe and acceptable to allow that to go down the drain. Make sure to remove any large amounts of leftover ink before you apply the soap, of course!
Hi
very nice video thank you, although i did find the part were you show the chart a little confusing. reading the color graduations from left to right i'm not sure how you got to the five yellow ochre to start with, and then is it a 80% lemon yellow/20% yellow ochre and then a 50%lemon yellow /50% yellow ochre so in the mixing order your doing left to right?
Thank you! On the chart, the first five mixes are yellow ochre with increasing amounts of titanium white. In the lemon yellow section, the left mix is mostly lemon yellow and a little yellow ochre. The next mix, I just added some white to tint the first mix. Then the third mix is just a little lemon yellow with mostly yellow ochre, and the fourth mix is the third mix plus titanium white. I hope that help and I'll try to be clearer in future videos.
👍
Similar but oxide is much darker golden brown with more yellow when white mixed with white= better to tinge a white for a sun
Thanks for sharing!
It can be used like a mono eraser when off?
Sort of. The erasers by themselves are pretty short so might be tough to hold. When new and longer, it might be doable.
Thank you. Samed me a lot of money 😭😂. For my eyes they’re basically the same
So no conclusion ? Which yellow is performing better ?
Both work so similarly that either will be a good choice.
it looks so beautiful!!!
Thank you so much for this comparison it’s exactly what I’ve been looking through many youtube videos for!! I have just one question… how easy is blending oil-based inks to create custom colors? You spoke of watercolor so I’m assuming you have some painting experience and can provide some insight as to color mixing
It’s not too bad however I don’t find it quite as simple as mixing acrylics when I’m painting. It’s a bit thicker than heavy body acrylic paint. I mix using a palette knife on a plexiglass palette.
@@theweekendbeckons9439 Okay that’s interesting I’m excited to try it out! Thank you for sharing 🤍
Used those two colors with water color paints. Only difference was the white came from the color of the watercolor paper and not paint. Thanks for the video.
Thank you for your videos. It helps a lot!
I find it only works on my Staedtler 2mm lead holder but it creates such a great point.
Many years ago in my college color theory class, we used Mars Black when mixing with colors. I haven’t used it in years (probably should), but have been using the Carbon Black when I want a very deep black. The only problem is that it dries to a very matte finish which requires several coats of varnish on the finished painting.
Thanks for the explanation❤
I don't understand the shades
Plum wine is nice
I got one in college for the arch program and I’m guessing I must have used it at least a few times. But I have kept my supplies with me since I graduated and just pulled it out because I vaguely recalled it was for sharpening but totally forgot what specifically it sharpened! Thanks for reminding me - I just need to go dig out those pencils I know I have in my supplies box. Good thing I also kept my regular standard sharpener that comes with a lot of charcoal pencil sets. One piece of advice: It would have been a nice finish at the end of the video to just draw a line with each of the pencils to show how the sharpness changes the line qualities. You had the clean paper right there and the pencils in your had with the tips almost touching the paper- I was totally expecting that to happen and left a bit anxious with no resolution. Haha. But great video - you have such a naturally clear soothing voice and well explained without unnecessary wordiness (your words were efficient and you said what needed to be said with fewer but wisely chosen words that most people seem to.
Nice lucky tree.
I have a BAILE 2m and I can't sharpen it with this. It always breaks. No grinding noise, quite, does it not work with other pencil types?
I haven't tried the Baile brand but I have read that they specifically don't fit into the Staedler lead pointer. I have no idea why because you'd think 2mm is 2mm but I guess not.
Thank you!
The review was really helpful. Thank you!
WOW...!!!! Beautiful
