Jim Tom I love your music. I'm the granddaughter of a moonshiner from Sand Mountain in DeKalb County in Alabama. I can remember listening too my kin folks playing banjos on the front porch in the summer time. It was a time when a kid was happy getting the occasional toy through the mail. It's almost Christmas now and I'd give anything to go back to them days for a just a few minutes. The most happiest memories I have are not presents under a tree. Their of family getting together for good food and great times playing outdoors with my cousins. Well I just mostly wanted to thank you for taking me back home for a minute and to wish a very merry Christmas to you and yours . Godspeed Jim Tom.

On the most recent episode of the Moonshiners Christmas special Bill (previous partner of Josh) visited with Jim Tom and asked he wanted to go Christmas Caroling with them. Jim Tom said he just wasn't up to it, he said he's had some strokes and didn't feel like he could do it.

Here's the trick for on the show. When money changes hands the jugs/barrels are water not moonshine. It's not illegal to make it. It is illegal to sell it without paying taxes. I new a pimp that filed taxes every year and put down pimp as his employment. The IRS doesn't care what you do as long as they get their cut. Pay your taxes and you are not committing a crime.
No they don't have license or a distillery on their land. I live in Robbinsville NC and this is a dry county. You can't buy beer in this town, you have to go to the next county over.
What they didn't say was that because America borrowed from the French heavily to finance the revolution and we were completely broke with a payment due. The only recourse Washington had was to institute a liquor tax at a time when farmers used it for barter and to pay bills when you had no money. Now the production of liquor becomes illegal because you are evading taxation and it never really ever lost that status except for a time or two.

That he out a dam cat in the mailbox and he said when the mail man opened the dam mailbox he said that cat took off in the mail man car he made the cat sounds in wished everybody could heard thag story it made me laughs so hard it made my stomach hurt in like jim tom mark and digger josh and tim and some other ones from up in Tennessee

While it is true that beer and wine can be legally made at home for personal use, moonshine, or any other distilled alcohol is illegal to make without a license. Just owning a still without a permit will get you a felony charge. Everyone that has commented that it's legal to make is giving false information
Jim Tom isn't native to South Carolina as stated once. He's from North Carolina. He stopped the show most likely got the same reason as Jeff Waldroup. That reason being Discovery Channel being ridiculous towards them. You actually got his net worth pretty close. Combining all his properties and assets will be close to 100k. Making moonshine is not widely done in this area despite what is portrayed on the show. There are no turf wars and the feud between Jeff and Mark with Wayne Nix was all staged. Graham county NC is the last "dry" county in NC. Clear Creek has a better reputation for the best moonshine in the area. That'll be $10,000.00 for your info

Does anybody know where Jim Tom got his copper from to make stills it's almost impossible to find but they seem to walk right into a store and walk out with it and that's not true I'd love to know where they get it from
