Great video! Pay no mind to the people who know nothing of this kind of boat and the racing history behind them. My dad Charles Spragg owned and raced the 004 Spooky boat to a Hi points championship in 88-89 flat bottom blown gas. I love these boats. The owner of the 004 boat now is a guy named Steve Faist I believe out of Calf. I have been trying to contact him via Facebook, but no reply. Anyway....great video. Good content! Keep it coming...
Hey, thanks so much! That’s so cool! Yeah, Steve isn’t easy to get a hold of. Pretty cool to find out the history of that boat. It’s one of my favorites. Thanks for the comment and for the positive support!
I race everything from motorcycle to cars . And there's nothing like taming one of these monsters . You can't see what he's doing with his feet . Especially the superchargers they are a handful
I didn’t make it out till after the event. Interesting they did it going down river. It used to be passes going upriver. That afternoon Just before sunset, a bunch of the locals were racing 4 boats wide down by the weir. Lol
I think it was a 1000 foot course. I can’t remember exact speeds, but they were hitting 70-100, depending on the boat. They weren’t providing ET’s that I can remember.
I heard a rumor that they're moving the Pirate's Cove October event to the Marina at Jack Smith Park in Needles. Don't know for sure, though. But yes, get it out so I can shoot it!
@@FastLoudPhotography Definitely, I gotta get it out. Poor thing has been sitting in backyard. I have a 71 Hondo which looks just like 004 and almost the same color.
@@FastLoudPhotography In the drag boat racing venue, "warmups" draw HUGE crowds. Hard to describe in words and video doesn't really capture the beastly sound of those motors. My first experience was with my aunt and uncle's Top Alcohol Flat drag boat, the War Party 556. When my uncle fired it up and hit the throttle, it was like being injected with pure adrenaline. That was almost 20 years ago and I've been a huge fan and supporter of the venue ever since. He passed in 2010 and the funeral services for my aunt are being held today. Thank you for the video. It captures the essence of the origins of drag boat racing.
@@FredFukkinBear First of all, my condolences to you on your Aunt. Thank you for the comment. I think its one of my favorite comments I've ever received. I remember that boat. So glad you liked the video. I get a lot of rude comments and unsolicited critiques, so its nice to hear from someone who actually appreciated it and had a memory connected to these boats like I do. My dad was a drag boat racer and it has never left my DNA. Thanks Fred.
i dont understand..how can they make kind of small boat that didnt sink at all with that huge engine in there...that crazy..i wish i can make one of it n put car engine inside...😁
patrickrfaul Yeah. Just a sticker on my lens hood. I have my phone mounted to a hot shoe bracket on the top of my camera and it picks up the long lens. I should get them to sponsor me or something, huh?
Brendon Kelly ohhhhh... no shit? Learn something new everyday!! Yeah, turbos aren’t a common use on these types of boats. I’m not an engine expert, but my assumption is due to the need/desire for instantaneous throttle response. No turbo lag. On the other hand, turbos are widely used on the offshore boats (see my other videos like LOTO shootout or Big Cat Poker Run , for reference). These are designed for long distance, high speed cruising which makes good use of turbo’s high-efficiency and reliability without need for instant horsepower. They throttle up slow and steady and run at extended high speeds. Thanks for the question!! 💪🏼
Terry Allen you know you’re supposed to cut the D ring on the helmet just so it will hold on the helmet will come off in a crash ,and not snap your neck.👍🏽
it is funny how we change as we get older . i used to love boats like that and had one a 19963 Rayson craft with a big block Chevy and V drive . Point is it was cool back then , but i would not give 100 bucks for any boat in this video. it is just that most people dont care anything about them anymore
I totally get where you're coming from, but the truth is that these boats are going through a huge resurgence out here on the west coast. Mostly guys in their late 40's and 50's who, like me, grew up on them as the family boat. Now they're restoring them and running them again at grass roots gatherings taking place at lakes and rivers all over California and Arizona. But I do agree, they're an acquired taste. Thanks for the comment!

I've got a friend with an Allison XB2002 with a 245 Mercury that's been worked on a little that would put some of these guys on the trailer in shame. How about 102 mph with 2 people that are over 240 lbs each and fishing gear. Fast quick and can fish. But nothing beats the sound and looks of a Sanger with a big block Chevy blown or not with open headers.
Excellent! Great Drag Boats! Super-Fast. Great Filming!
