- Take a relaxing, mindful cruise on narrowboat Alice Grace, from Lechlade to Grafton Lock where a richness of House Martins are living in the eaves. Then watch me form my nature journal and listen to India Thomas reading an extract from John Thorne’s poem, ‘House Martins’.

I'm catching up with your earlier vlogs Vanessa!. Lovely to see the housemartins and even the mischievous cows! Lovely to see how your nature journals have evolved. Just wonderful and relaxing to watch! Thank you for all your hard work putting these together.😊
Hi Carole, thank you so much for watching the old ones. I was very much trying to get to grips with it all then so there are lots of editing mistakes and I was just beginning with learning how to draw too. It’s all about practice! Have a super rest of the week. Take care 🦋🌻
I’m doing the same, after discovering this channel 🥰
my mum introduced me to your calming beautiful channel, l love your style of vlogs showing nature, history of a place, your art and poems, l am binge watching them all today ☺
Please thank you Mum from me. I am so pleased that you are enjoying the vlogs. Take care 🌻🦋
I have lived in my house between two villages for a long long time. When we first moved here the wildlife was abundant. Gradually the few house’s occupants changed from elderly married couples to families. Only 11 houses in all but the big house became a commercial property with lots of modernisation. Over the years we have lost upward of 28 types of birds, animals and pond life. Just due to more active people and traffic around. We tried to be responsible but wildlife doesn’t like activity from noisy people. I really miss the swallows and the owls and the glow worms.
That is so sad to hear. I hope that more conservation work can be done where you are, like leaving lawns and verges wild and creating nesting areas for swallows and owls. I am starting to see more thought going into these things now. Thank you so much for watching, take care 🦋🌻
@@themindfulnarrowboat I am afraid the problem is far beyond green verges, we are surrounded my miles of fields. It has to be down to too much activity from people, vehicles, noise and all the rest of the things WE need to survive. It is all too complicated for quick fix answers.
So much more than a narrowboat channel!
That is such a kind comment- thank you so much! 😊 Have a super rest of the week, take care🌻🦋

Good Morning Vanessa - greetings from Poland.
I've certainly learnt a lot more about House Martins, thanks to your superb video. Your camera work and excellent commentary made todays journey even more enjoyable. Thank you.
Hi Michael, I am still awaiting the arrival of the house martins here, this year, but yesterday spotted my first swallow! It's always a great delight to see them as their numbers are so low now. Do you have a favourite bird in Poland? Thank you for your comment. Take care🌻🦋
We're very lucky where I live, or lying 200 meters from a very large forest. Jays, Woodpeckers and Owls are very common. We also have European Moose, Beaver, wild Boar and Wolves. Don't see them often but they're definitely there.
Wow! You are very lucky indeed! That forest of yours sounds like a perfect paradise to me and to see some of those amazing animals would be incredible. I bet you get some unbelievable fungi there too. During the damp months, I can often be found staring at a fungus somewhere!🍄🦋🌻
My wife is the expert on fungii. She's Polish. We pick mushrooms in October/November and either dry
them or pickle them. I've no idea of their names but they taste good. You're right - I am lucky. But there again, we're all lucky to have what we have.
Wow love the scenery 👍
Thank you🌻🦋
Beautiful Thank you
Beautiful video. Loved see swans with cygnets riding on their back, I’ve only seen in common loon here in US. So sweet and wonderfully protective. Beautiful house martins, easily identified as swallows, but my first view house martins. Your dog running amoung wild daisies, the whole video was such a joy to me, including your drawing and poem in your journal. Thanks 😄
Thank you so much for your lovely comment and for watching the oldies. Have a super week, take care🦋🌻
Hello again! It's kind of fun to watch the evolution of your vlogs. I've now watched episdodes from the very end, roughly the middle, and now the beginning. Outsnading camera and film work has been the constant. As well as the wonderful soundtracks. I've enjoyed them all, look forward to watching more. Best wishes!
It is so lovely to know that you are watching all of the vlogs- thank you so much for your kind words about my camera and film work- the earliest videos are filmed with an iPad, then I bought a Nikon Coolpix and finally a Panasonic Lumix 2000. I totally recommend the Panasonic for filming; it also has a great macro setting too. 👍 Have a fab Friday, take care🦋🌻
David Attenborough of the canal network 😂 well done 👍
Well I am chuffed to bits with that comparison but I’m not sure Sir David would be!😂 Thank you ☺️🌻🦋
The wonderful outdoors
Just found your vlog. I'll be catching up one of these days. 🙂 Love the cygnets. And the peaceful views of the canal, so gorgeous, even the cows. But especially the House Martins. What do we do to help them?
We can help the house martins by Lee cracks in old rooftops and sheds for them to nest. Neat, new builds make nesting impossible for them and some businesses put up nets too. Thank you for your lovely comment. Have a super weekend, take care🌻🦋
I am a new subscriber, i am admiring your videos , the landscapes and the presentation of every detail.
Welcome to the channel! It is lovely to have you aboard and thank you so much for your lovely comment! Take care🦋🌻
Dog in the daisies!
That’s my fault, since then I keep Zephyr away from the flowers. Thank you so much for watching, take care🦋🌻
Zephyr amongst the daisies...great! Gonna get me a cow, milk every day and a window cleaner to boot!
😆 Yes, who knew that cows were so good at cleaning windows. Thank you so much for watching, take care🦋🌻🐮
See very few House Martins these days...wher I live I have not seen any for years.....
This is a sad truth and I think the removal of old buildings and places for House Martins to nest is one factor. Thank you for watching and take care🌻🦋
👍👌🇨🇦❤,
Thank you for watching, Pocket Change.🌻🦋
You'll have to forgive the cows... Generally speaking they all want desperately to be canal boaters. sadly licking windows and chewing lines is as close as they will ever get.
I would have one onboard if I could! 😂 Thank you so much for your lovely comment. Take care 🌻🦋
