  • Ending Agricultural Bonded Labour in Nepal (EABL) project was implemented from April 2021-June 2024, with funding support from Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation-NORAD, and in partnership with The Freedom Fund, focusing on former agricultural bonded labour communities in Western Nepal. The project was implemented by Kamaiya Mahila Jagaran Samaj (KMJS), Equality Development Center (EDC) and Rastriya Mukta Haliya Samaj Federation Nepal (RMHSF-N) in Bardiya, Doti and Bajura districts.
    EABL Project supported former Kamaiya and Haliya communities in revitalizing their agencies, from community to national level, brining them together with the Harwa-Charwa communities from Eastern Terai Nepal, in formation of the National level Joint Struggle Committee. The project was also able to support the former bonded labour communities to campaign, advocate, coordinate and collaborate with 3-tiers of government to develop and strengthen government systems resulting in development of Rehabilitation guidelines in Provincial and Palika level, data collection of thousands of unregistered Kamaiya and Haliya families and even building 22 houses in Kailai district by Sudurpaschim Government.
    EABL project supported former Kamaiya and Haliya families in building alternative livelihood opportunities through capacity building on business development and providing seed money support, which has enabled former bonded labour communities to become financially resilient and providing them opportunities to engage in their community leadership. The project also supported of students from former bonded labour communities with educational materials, enabling them to continue their school and education and supported youth from those communities to attain certified vocational education for future livelihood opportunities. The project also supported youth from Rajapur Municipality in Baridya and Dipayal Silgadhi Municipality in Doti district with information on job opportunities through Employment Information Centers.
