    I remember when I was younger, my family would go to Regina’s, and we’d count the commuter rail trains every time they’d go by. Our record was 8.

    Fantastic and informative video! Thanks so much for documenting this. As a former Lower Allston and Brighton resident & railfan, I’m excited to see Beacon Park getting use again. I used to watch trains there all the time in the 90s and early 2000s. I was frequently at that intersection of Cambridge and Linden, the west end of the yard where you were.
    Really have been enjoying your videos, keep up the great work!

    When I was a young boy of 6. My dad took me to Fenway and we were on the Mass pike and I saw the old Beacon Yard. And it was the Penn Central back then. And if you watch the Thomas Crown Affair with Steve McQueen. You can see the same yard as it was back then. and it was very busy too, I hope one day you go to Kornwesthiem Germany, To the Classfication Yard. Where my mother's dad worked at. My grandfather he went all over Gemany pre-war and post war. And some of the units he drove are still running and working hard too.

    Hey, at least we're one step closer towards building the newer West Station to help reduce the usual bottleneck traffic in Allston VILL. Uh-oh!
    Whenever we put our minds to it, we can certainly come up w/ something great for the above T Commuter Rail station (i.e. Ample lighting & clear signage directing fellow T passengers & I where to go, respectively).

    I live in Connecticut, drove the Mass Pike to Lowell in summer 2023 for an internship, and took the train into Boston from Worcester twice...
    I got lucky in that I avoided the worse summer traffic volume. But suffice to say, three lanes on the pike, 290, and 495 got backed up from time to time. Very inconvenient, risky, and not a good use of taxpayer money when crashes, impaired driving, and congestion are the results.
    They really need to turn this yard into a transportation hub. Preferably an auto train hub so that the surrounding highways and roadways are relieved of some congestion. Are there tracks from the yard to the ones used by North Station? Is this yard the solution to creating a true Washington DC to Maine Amtrak route?
    If not, then make it another transportation for trains and busses that aims to provide commuters and travelers another means of entering and exiting the city. Fewer cars = less impaired driving, crashes, safer roadways, etc.

    • @BostonByRails
      @BostonByRails  3 месяца назад

      @@iss138ma i tend to listen to my scanner alot once i have heard the extra exists and I mnow what to listen for, otherwise it can be hard to pick out extras amoungst all the other chatter if you arent expecting one. However, the most reliable way to find these cool trains is facebook. Keep an eye out for posts on the mbta commuter rail fans facebook group or other boston related ones. So, i guess i’d say they mix and work well together

    The concrete pad that those dirty dirt cars sit on used to be a small intermodal yard before CSX moved that operation to Worcester ma and combined that operation after CSX expanded that yard in 2012.

      They almost did put one there! The work to add a station serving the area ended up being what lead to us getting Boston Landing station. I feel like an additional stop at Allston Depot would be a good idea if and when the line is ever electrified.
