    There is still some remains of the yard by Boston Landing. There is still some tracks left, like 3 or 4.

    Great video! Thanks for going in depth about the various yards of Boston. In regards to the Seaport District, the Early Owners layer of Rail Guide (online and on the app) showcases every single track of the massive New Haven yard in the area.

    Unfortunately, Boston didn't transition to double stacked container trains. Too many obstruction over the rails. Instead, many container from the ship port is TRUCKED out to rail where it can be stacked an hour away - that's why Boston's port operations are sorta vestigal, big enough to serve the New England area but not much more.
    My house has a defunct rail embankment next to it, replaced by a competing line fifty feet away. That one still carries freight. And me :) probably the csx Stoughton run you showed. The rails themselves seem to go on and on after splitting from the MBTA line, does the train not go past Stoughton?

    • @BostonByRails
      @BostonByRails  Год назад +1

      Indeed! Boston with double stacks would have been AWESOME! Oh well :(
      I dont think freight can go past stoughton? All i know is they serve an industry just west of the station, and run around their train at the stoughton station.

      @@BostonByRailsno mbta doesn’t go past stoughton it stops at the station and then reverses back to canton and then Boston. Local railfan as well here

    Great video! I didn’t realize how many yards there used to be in Boston.
    Also, BO-1 wasn’t abolished. Just one of it’s customers was shut down.

    Great stuff. The content done by North Country Trains, South Coast Rail and yourself is great!
    Another topic I already commented (Middleborough line to buzzards), that would be great if you cover, would be the Central Massachussets MBTA Operations. Gone, but not forgeten... Room for revival?

    There was a Southern bound branch to the freight railway that left Boston, stayed alongside the Redline Ashmont / Braintree line until the Neponset River.
    After traversing through Port Norfolk and the Neponset River, it continued behind the Neponset Drive-in Theatre. The last freight train from the Canton - Taunton (not official name, just direction) was a Northbound train in the early 1970's. MAP NOTE: There's another similar online map application that allows a side by side sliding comparison. Will look it up and return to edit this. Thanks for the vid.!
