    We do have a lot more advanced videos on our website. We want to cover all aspects of Table Tennis so I understand that this is a very basic skill but if you are just starting out in Table Tennis it can be hard to get right.
    Stay tuned because we are refilming a lot of our lessons in full 1080p HD and there will certainly be some more advanced topics. Thanks for the feedback!

    As long as they follow the other rules, such as throwing the ball up nearly vertical and not hiding the ball throughout the serve.

    The main disadvantage is that as the players get better, they will be able to make a strong attack off this serve, especially if you serve it all the time. As a surprise tactic though, this can work well. As a guide we recommend you serve 80% of your serves short and 20% long. You can vary this depending on your opponent and how well they return each type of serve.

    No you don't have to hit 6 inches above where you threw it from. You actually need to throw it up at least 6 inches but you also must hit the ball on the way down. The point of the rule was to stop players throwing the ball into their bat when serving as this gave them an advantage in generating more spin. The rules are to make returning the spin serves easier.

    ( helped me realize how idiotic I look at 3:10 when I do the same thing sometimes xD )
    Btw my serve's pretty good (quick and ends in a tough spot) but I lack any control or spin , what should I do?

    • @pingskills
      @pingskills  7 лет назад +10

      I'm glad it helped. The key to getting spin is to have a fast brushing contact. This can be difficult at first so we suggest trying something away from the table. Try to hit the ball onto the floor with backspin and see if you can get it to spin back to you. Once you can do that you know you are getting some good spin so then go back to the table and try the same thing there. Let me know how it goes.

  • @knotwilg3596

    At the top level, all players move very fast. A fast low serve will bounce off the table, so the opponent will be able to attack it, because there is a lot of maneuvering room outside the table. Therefore, top players will mostly serve short serves. The returner needs to start his shot above the table, reducing the scope for attack.
    As a surprise shot, a fast low serve without much spin may still work. You can watch Ma Long serve such relatively flat serves down the line occasionally.

    *I'm new to Ping Pong, so this might be a stupid question, but when people are rallying and standing further and further from the table, why don't they ever tap it to hit it short? Or does this defy the physics of the game and that's not possible?? It just seems like whenever I see a long rally, people are just returning it with the same power instead of switching up short and deep shots. Or when one player is fixated on attacking and smashing, he just keeps going at it trying to break the defense instead of hitting a tricky drop shot.*

    • @pingskills
      @pingskills  8 лет назад

      A tricky drop shot can be effective. Google "pingskills drop shot" to see our tutorial on it. However if you are a little bit away from the table in can difficult to get it short enough, and so often people prefer to keep on attacking.

    • @ryanmaree
      @ryanmaree 8 лет назад +3

      It's going too fast for them to just tap it, it will just bounce off or bat and then out

    • @milosmiljkovic5975
      @milosmiljkovic5975 8 лет назад

      even if you tap it, chances are the ball has a lot of top spin in such a rally, meaning it will go high if you tap it, giving the opponent an opportunity to smash the ball with full strength.
