A police investigation seems appropriate here, especially if the auction house bought six containers. We see so many resellers buying storage units and auction lots. It is a ready market for fenced goods that have been stolen while en route. If an employee at that shipping company is stealing goods, the company should want that person arrested. So, so glad you are finally getting a positive ending to the situation.

She allowed me to sell a few painted furniture pieces in her store and I had a antique buffet for sale there at $3000. At the time we were buying a house and needed cash quick so I asked her to price it at $1500, she agreed and it sold the next day. She sent me $750, then 2 days later I get a call from the buyer telling me how lovely the piece was (my number was on the hand painted tag). I said that I have just marked it down by 50%....she says, wow it was $6000? Awkward silence. Having lived on the New Brunswick border for ore than 20 years I can tell you that the people from the east coast are indeed amazing. So happy that this story had a happy ending
Wow what a story - you couldn't make it up could you. I'm so glad you found out where your painting had gone, and will be getting it back, plus not losing the money too. That absolutely IS the wildest story! And I thank you for making this video, for telling us about this, BLESS YOU! We need to know about things like this! And I am so proud of you for being a dog with a bone about all of it, for all of your follow up AND, most importantly, for Being In Your POWER and demanding that they clean up their mess! Yay!!! Brava!
I would like to participate in thanking the woman who tracked you down... and was decent enough to return the painting. THAT deserves ACKNOWLEDGEMENT! I am so quick to jump on people when there's a wrongdoing, but I WANT to be as quick to come forward and really thank those who do good! So, count me in. (I am not on social media though... I'm a bit of a Luddite! So, I'd need an postal address...). That is really lovely that you're doing this AND that you are doing a painting for her!!!
So glad you shared this story and that it all turned out well. Bless the woman who was willing to give up the painting and bless you for giving her another painting. There are good people in this world we just have to dig a little deep to find them sometimes.
Just came across your channel and this story while scrolling through. It certainly got my attention. As an Artist, and relatively still new to painting, I'm always intrigued by others story's and experiences. I make it a point to learn from others. Including shipping fiascos. I've not had much experience in that area yet. I've felt safe so far but I'll add another eye as I watch my things, my creations, leave. Thank you for sharing this. 😊❤️
Wild indeed! I did enjoy your story but felt frustration for you as well. Glad it has ended up with a good ending and you have met such a lovely lady that certainly deserves a small painting that will always remain special for her. 🎉
Wow. So incredibly glad that the community pulled together and that you were able to track and get your painting back. I saw a video recently showing what happens to packages that go missing and never show up in the post. They get auctioned off or end up in massive warehouses in giant bins to be sold off.
Impressed with your determination tosolve the issue. Also would like to send a thank you art card to this lady for her kindness. I also had a bad experience selling an art piece that didnt turn out as well as yours. Look forward to hearing from u
Good for you! I love this. I'm a dog with a bone when things go sideways and I am so pleased to hear that you were successful.........But I think we need to know the name of that company. Many years ago, (1995) my family held an estate sale and shipped the kids their personal belongings. 3 kids, 3 States, no show. That's when I became a dog with bone and your story reminded me that one person can still make a significant contribution to the well being of all.........and get their belongings back. Thank you!!
I have a very large painting that I"m goint to put to seel, and this kind of stories help to be aware of with whoch carriers i'll use for the shipping. I'm so glad that you found your painting Poor laidy, shes going to loose a nice painting that she was very happy to have. BTW, If it was me, I would've send her a smaller original painting juts to say thank you of accepting to give the lost painting back.
That is crazy! This is the first video I have watched of yours, but I like you already. Our daughter is a very talented artist and her high school art classes had a showing about the town where we live and a piece of hers was placed. But she never got it back! She was angry but at the same time she said… someone thought my stuff was good enough to steal it! I never even got to see it. But I did see some of her fashion designs, and they were remarkable! She is good. Both daughters are. 🤷🏼♀️. Just saying. Flowing you now. ❤
WOW! What a story! I’m so glad you were as you say, like a dog with a bone! Good for you about making sure you told That freight company what you wanted in order to settle this thing. This is the first time I found your channel and because of your story I subscribed. Good for you!
I happened upon your page today. I have a few chronic illnesses and do a bit of jewelry making although I use pieces that are premade in my jewelry. I am thinking about branching into using mediums that I can design pieces for my jewelry. Anyway, you made my day.
when unseen forces move things together what a great outcome. So glad the painting was directed towards this curious yet unselfish lady, that then created a huge result with the painting being returned . just amazing
So Impressed with your calmness in the telling. Were you that calm throughout? And how lovely the person who purchased “the auction item” and called about the title, to not lose her patience either with it all. This is an interesting point of law also… yes, possible fraud and theft. Thanks for sharing this with us. I would be happy to send the purchaser a thank you on your behalf.
What an absolute nightmare. Bless that recipient for contacting you and being willing to work with you regardless of her wanting to keep the painting. More people need to simply do the right thing.
Don’t ship again without an etag! So worth it! When you can call the shipper and tell them you know EXACTLY where your package is you get immediate results. Been there. Done that.
I'm sorry you had to go through this but I'm happy you got your painting back and that you were able to get the shipping company to compensate you +. Theft is rampant in the shipping industry. I hope your story will result in appropriate changes that will prevent this type of issue in the future. Loved your story!
This story blows me away! It’s audacious. Every painter who ships work needs to know which freight company did this…you’ve got a new subscriber and now follower on instagram.
I just found this channel and checked out your work on Instagram. I like painting in a style similar to yours though I'm also training myself to do detail work which has never been a favorite of mine. I'm glad your painting is finally going where it belongs.
That is crazy but it does sound like this company needs to be investigated for embezzlement or theft. If they were earnestly searching for a lost item it would stand to reason they would first check lost inventory. It’s a good reminder to mark works with more details though. I’ll be doing that in future!
That shipping company is making a side hustle selling trailers full of items and pocketing the money instead of redirecting each piece to either the shipper or the destination! Blatant theft!
I can tell that you are a good artist. start the work then finish the work. come hell or high water. hope it all turns out okay. I've had similar situations but never this. I've shipped many a painting and usually took a chance on explaining what was in my shipping box.
I am outraged but not surprised by your story, people/companies rarely follow up on any loss of other people’s property because it’s cheaper to just say “Sorry for the inconvenience, your package was lost” and most people will not fight back! Today with bar codes and tracking, there is no excuse for “losing” a package, especially a large one, each point it goes to should be able to account for it and follow the chain of custody with ease! Bless that lady who ended up with your painting, quite an experience for her, I’m sure! Good on you for sinking your teeth into this debacle and hopefully, it will be made right!💕🇨🇦
Wow, that was exhausting! Glad to hear the nice lady gets one of your paintings, good job getting to the bottom of everything with so many moving parts!
Sorry all that happened to you. I had some thing similar but different happened to me. Your work online and it's very beautiful. I love your sense of color and interesting shapes
Wow! I'm so glad you found it! Kudos to the woman who contacted you! I've had three (much smaller) paintings stolen in the last nine months - two little 6x6s were evidently pocketed at an open studio event. 😢 I have no idea where my 10" x 10" one went - it wasn't via a shipping company, though. I'd just completed it not long before.
I just subscribed because I am in love with that painting right over your left shoulder. Also, this is a great story. I'm so glad you decided to give the lady who bought your painting at auction, a new painting that she can feel good about owning.
By the way if you write the story to go with both of these paintings it will add to their interest. Their value has just skyrocketed ! Also it is good publicity concerning all the great folks involved in helping in solving this situation.
0:00 - 0:24 🙏🏻👍🏻 this sounds like it's gonna be a wonderful story and thank you for giving me an excuse to go make that coffee after all, which I stopped a few minutes ago. Back in a sec!
I think your could build this into a great 'mysterious short story '....shout out to the lovely lady from New Zealand...and youof course for sharing....
Wow! That is ridiculous! I hope you get to ultimately see your painting which must be the equivalent of a child to you! At least it's been located! I wish you the best on this.
Incredible story! I'm not the least bit surprised about the honesty and kindness of that east coaster. I'm glad it's looking like there will be a very happy ending. I had a funny, similar (and not so expensive) missing piece of the art I create. I make journals completely from repurposed old books, papers, laces, ribbons, etc. A woman in California purchased one of my books and I shipped it to her. The day AFTER I shipped it she messaged me and said "Oh dear! Have you sent it? I can't believe it, I gave you the wrong house number for my address!!" She had recently moved. Well, yes, I had already shipped it. So I start making phonecalls too. Because it was in the U.S. by then I was told I had to speak to someone at the U.S. postal service because at the border it would be handed to them. So I make my call, and calls and calls. Eventually told there was nothing I could do except hope the address it arrives at does the right thing and returns the book. I kept watching the tracking number daily. My book travelled all over the U.S. just to get to California. I finally told the woman it had arrived at the incorrect address and now we had to wait and see what those people do. She said "That is walking distance from my house. I'm going to walk down there and see if the book is there." A few minutes later I heard back from her and she was elated "I have my book in my hands!!! The person was so nice and wasn't quite sure what to do with it. I showed my ID to prove who I was and pointed to my house and she happily gave me my book!" So, delivery achieved, albeit all over the U.S. before it finally arrived where it needed to be. Needless to say I always ask customers to double-check their addresses now before I create a shipping label. I'm so glad your story had a happy ending too. Fingers crossed the big painting arrives safely to where it should be. Love your videos Julia. With love and admiration, from across the lake in Bowmanville, Catherine.
Omg, it’s crazy!,, I’m glad that you got it back, and I would like to thank you to the sweet, honest lady who a CARD ,but I’m living in Mexico ,,,mail it’s really bad, so please thank the lady for me…take care
When you started the story I thought you recovered the painting because the woman from New Brunswick had seen a video of you and saw the painting in question in the background, it is so much wilder, I'm glad it's going to end well. Last year I bought a Charles Le Norreys's "Sea Horse King" bust from an auction online, the auction house is situated in Michigan and I live in Québec. They do not ship so I had to arrange it myself, so after paying the sculpture, the shipping and customs duties it took over 14 days, I was having a nervous breakdown and apprehended the state of my purchase. My story also ended well with the help of the local shipping co. office. But I notified all the troubles I went through to the auction house who had recommended that particular shipping company, they thanked me for the feedback, otherwise how would they know? You have a new fan I can't wait to see your other videos. PS I've just gone to look at the Hambleton Gallery website to see some of your work and I'm glad I did, "We Are So Glamorous" is fantastic and some of your paintings remind me of Northern Ontario, I am definitely a fan!
So glad it all finally worked out (hopefully). Do let us know that the shipping company honored all their promises and that the dear New Brunswick lady got her painting.
We love a story with a happy ending. We moved house once and certain hiking gear didn't make it to the new house. I suspect it happens to too many people. But similar to your painting story, here's another. I was once in a kayak club and we had molds and made our own fibreglass kayaks. One teenager made his with a bright coloured pattern, and inside he put a little engraved plastic plate, the black/white/black layered type. It said, Made by Tom Smith and has his phone number. It was still fairly new and was stolen one night from the back yard. The boy was very upset as you can imagine. But a few weeks later his Dad got a phone call. 'I'd like to order a paddle to match a kayak that you made' The caller thought it came from a factory. The father caught on that this was his son's kayak and got the details of the caller, then phoned the police. The kayak got returned, the caller told the police who he'd bought it from, case closed.
Happy that you resolved this outrageous situation and angry that I am not at all surprised. Across our country, the lack of responsibility by service corporations is abominable. Shipping industry leads the pack. Good for you to have followed this through, and without having to involve the "legal industry".
I love your story. I’m sure curious who the shipper is… clearly there must be a naught employee stealing things?? Glad you were able to find out about your lost masterpiece and how sweet to paint something especially for the finder.
Crazy story , in this day and age how do parcels still get lost 😢,, there is an address on them and putting return to sender a lot of the time too, I had a drawing to Australia go all around the USA for six months and then back to me in Ireland where I then sent it to Australia again😅,,it travelled the world! For eight months lol
Im from the east coast ,an you go girl from one painter to another.. we are nice an,😅 lm so glad u got the Comp. That lost the painting an Lied About it.
It's so important to read the fineprint when shipping. Their insurance often doesn't cover valuables. Third party insurance is mandatory for anything fragile, unique, or valuable. Always read the fine print where money (and art) is concerned. It may surprise you what insurance doesn't cover. Things like this story where the valueis more than a thousand, containing the police is a fast way to get the shipper to look properly. Mail theft is a serious crime. It also allows you to register the painting as lost or stolen art which makes selling it at auction or elsewhere neigh impossible.
@@juliaveenstraartist they assumed you read the terms and conditions and know what is covered and what is not. Customer responsibility to know what they are buying. They aren't promising anything they aren't delivering. They specifically say what isn't covered. It's us who assumed insurance covers all possibilities when we don't read the fine print. (Found out the hard way when our workplace tried to claim the 10k insurance on a lost item. The correct next step is to contact the police and most of the time, the shipper is suddenly able to find the item in about 2 hours after we give them the police report number thingy. The insurance limits are legally correct. Morally dubious. Always read the fine print where money is concerned.
I have no problem saying UPS. I have several family member who live back East. I send gift etc. to a family member to distribute because everyone gathers there. I shipped 3 large boxes right after Thxgiving ( 10yr ago). I always insure. None of the packages arrived. I went through the 3 weeks before Xmas fighting with UPS about tracking & insuring these packages. Since they shipped together the packages were considered one shipment & were only insured up to $500. UPS only wanted to give me $100/package. Two weeks after, Xmas 6 truck trailers were discovered filled with UPS freight that had been left in the railroad freight yard in upstate NY. Best part of this story: UPS cancelled payment of the check sent to me for the insured amount.

@@jekalambert9412 I am sorry about your similar experience. I was missing similar items. I'm so glad Julia got her painting back - it's like a miracle!
I am an NB artist and really appreciate that you shared this story.
Ditto! 💓
Crazy but miraculous story! Love it. Happy everything will work out and that the sweet lady ( who obviously loves your work) will have one of your originals as well. 🙏 Mostly though, thank you for demonstrating the importance of not getting steamed rolled by the big companies...who are trained as wordsmiths to make "us" feel like it would just be easier to give up. BRAVO!!!! Makes this story even more rich!🏆
Thank you so much! And CBC just called me!
Having lived on the New Brunswick border for ore than 20 years I can tell you that the people from the east coast are indeed amazing. So happy that this story had a happy ending
@@mftmaine I can’t wait to visit there!
Wow what a story - you couldn't make it up could you. I'm so glad you found out where your painting had gone, and will be getting it back, plus not losing the money too. We put our trust in these people, and they're not all honest are they. I'm just going to watch your second part of the story now. Thank you for sharing it with us. I live in Portsmouth, UK. Take care. xx❤❤😊😊

@@juliaveenstraartist Fabulous. Thank you!
How maddening! I'd have been livid. I'm so glad it was found thanks to the lovely lady who phoned you.
I was pretty upset!
So glad you shared this story and that it all turned out well. Bless the woman who was willing to give up the painting and bless you for giving her another painting. There are good people in this world we just have to dig a little deep to find them sometimes.
Keep Rocking 🤙 the good stuff 👍 Beautiful person 🤗
Just came across your channel and this story while scrolling through. It certainly got my attention. As an Artist, and relatively still new to painting, I'm always intrigued by others story's and experiences. I make it a point to learn from others. Including shipping fiascos. I've not had much experience in that area yet. I've felt safe so far but I'll add another eye as I watch my things, my creations, leave.
Thank you for sharing this. 😊❤️
We are a friendly bunch here on the East Coast. She is a fine example of East Coast hospitality. Glad you got your painting back.
I'm glad this showed up in my feed. It was a horrific yet glorious story. I subscribed.
You are amazing. Shows that you have to fight hard to get some companies to do their job. Hope it worked out. Kia kaha from New Zealand.
I'm so glad that you found your painting
Poor laidy, shes going to loose a nice painting that she was very happy to have. BTW, If it was me, I would've send her a smaller original painting juts to say thank you of accepting to give the lost painting back.
I am! I said that in the video! She is amazing!
Thank you for seeing this through to the end. It is a victory for all of us as artists. And many thanks to the lovely lady who called you. Subscribed.
Thank you for the story and the follow!
WOW! What a story! I’m so glad you were as you say, like a dog with a bone! Good for you about making sure you told That freight company what you wanted in order to settle this thing. This is the first time I found your channel and because of your story I subscribed. Good for you!
Thank you so much!!!
I happened upon your page today. I have a few chronic illnesses and do a bit of jewelry making although I use pieces that are premade in my jewelry. I am thinking about branching into using mediums that I can design pieces for my jewelry. Anyway, you made my day.
Wow! What a story indeed.. well done for your persistence and a big hug of gratitude to The Lovely New Brunswick LADY!
when unseen forces move things together what a great outcome. So glad the painting was directed towards this curious yet unselfish lady, that then created a huge result with the painting being returned . just amazing
Absolutely fantastic lady such honesty is a rare thing these days 💗.
Been there. Done that.
Remarkable story! Glad you had a happy ending.
I'm sorry you had to go through this but I'm happy you got your painting back and that you were able to get the shipping company to compensate you +. Theft is rampant in the shipping industry. I hope your story will result in appropriate changes that will prevent this type of issue in the future. Loved your story!
I hope so too!
So glad it all worked out. You are brilliant the way you handled everything. Kudos to the honest lady in New Brunswick.
That is crazy but it does sound like this company needs to be investigated for embezzlement or theft. If they were earnestly searching for a lost item it would stand to reason they would first check lost inventory. It’s a good reminder to mark works with more details though. I’ll be doing that in future!
I'm from New Brusnwick living in Ontario. Yes Easterners are the most wonderful people. I miss my home.
That shipping company is making a side hustle selling trailers full of items and pocketing the money instead of redirecting each piece to either the shipper or the destination! Blatant theft!
The whole thing might have been a lie.
Good on you for sinking your teeth into this debacle and hopefully, it will be made right!💕🇨🇦
Incredible story! Yes, it feels like theft! And I love the people I know in New Brunswick! They are all positive, sweet and very kind.
Great story! Well told! So glad it has a happy ending for all!
Me too!
You Go Girl!! Glad you ‘found’ your painting.
Good for you to keep after these people. your work is beautiful. I’m a painter also so I appreciate what you did.
I LOVE this story. Thank you!
Awww thank you! I just finished that one!
I would love to see the entire painting.
New Zealand is not in Canada, New Brunswick is.
Wow! That is ridiculous! I hope you get to ultimately see your painting which must be the equivalent of a child to you! At least it's been located! I wish you the best on this.
Wow! Nothing is impossible right? Now days of honesty and integrity can be found!
It’s so good to know!
Aaaaamazing story! Your persistence paid off big time. Congrats! Let us know if and when it gets where it was supposed to go in the first place!
Quite the story!!! Wow!
Wow! Incredible story! Good for you!
Waw!!!! Crazy....unbelieveble 😮
Omg, it’s crazy!,, I’m glad that you got it back, and I would like to thank you to the sweet, honest lady who a CARD ,but I’m living in Mexico ,,,mail it’s really bad, so please thank the lady for me…take care
Send a card by email or by text to our lovely artist and se can print it and include it in her package .
Wow! Hope it all goes well. What an ordeal. That's a huge chunk of change. ❤
So glad it all finally worked out (hopefully). Do let us know that the shipping company honored all their promises and that the dear New Brunswick lady got her painting.
I will let you know!
Its a cautionary tale. Thank you for sharing. 😮
CBC is interviewing me this week!
Good you found it, heart wrenching to have your work stolen from you. 💞
So glad things worked out well.
I love your story. I’m sure curious who the shipper is… clearly there must be a naught employee stealing things?? Glad you were able to find out about your lost masterpiece and how sweet to paint something especially for the finder.
Good question! The company is Day and Ross.
So interesting. A cautionary tale for artists.
I just fell into your story. I’d be devastated to lose my work like that. I’d invest a few bucks and attach a tile or Apple air tag from now on.
You should go to New Brunswick. What an opportunity this has opened for you.
Wonderful story. Strange things happen.
Wow - what a story. I'm so glad it's all working out.
What a beautiful end to a frustrating situation!
Wow just wow... ❤
The interesting thing is that they will allow you to buy insurance but not honour it.
Well done❤ stick to your principles ❤
