My dad managed the Newsagents in the 70's that was to the right of the printshop that you went into. The Printshop used to be the dry cleaners. To the right of the newsagents was Paddys General store and next to that was the book shop. Across the road you had The uncle Jim's fish bar and Georges fish and chips, plus the green grocers, record shop and 2nd hand shop
Hi Ian. Did he? Thanks for this info mate = I couldn't recollect, what some of the shops used to be 👍 I remember Paddy's very well + Uncle Jim's is still going strong "different people running it now though = but still called Uncle Jim's. I remember the green grocers "its exterior was painted bottle green + the man that ran it, was called Brian, lovely bloke 👍✌️
How funny used to do this journey on my push bike back in the day and Balaam Street Baths used to have school swimming lessons there really enjoy your videos brings back good memories :)

Hi Damien. Sorry for the late reply!! Had a lot going on recently. Brilliant 😊 Thanks for the info on that = So many old pubs have either "gone completely = or have been put to other uses." & I struggle to remember the names, of some of them! Thanks again, Damien 👍 Best wishes ✌️
I don’t know if the record shop you was talking about but the record shop on that side of the Barking Road and that was called Melody Man but it was further down the road There was a Brilliant record shop on the other side of the road when I was a boy and teenager was Selmans Happy Daze 😊
Hi Andrew. That's it "melody man." Mentioned it to my Dad, on the phone earlier "he couldn't remember the name either = So, appreciate that mate." Ah rite, I'd heard the name, but didn't know where it was!! Yeah, nice to have those memories ay mate 👍✌️
I've heard it called that a few times = I wonder if it was originally the Doctors house 🤔 These names sometimes lead to accurate info = that's intrigued me now, I'll check the census ✌️
Evening David. Yeah, I do occasionally = their sweet & sour sauce is 👌 Good Friends on Balaam Street "has really improved, since the take over & revamp." ✌️
@David m3 maniac Does it? Didn't know they were closing! Yeah, friends is really decent now = went downhill a few years ago! But, since the takeover & refurb "the food is really decent" = especially the crispy chilli beef or beef chow mein!! No problem mate 👍✌️
The pub name on Balaam Street as I remember was The Red Lion, then became The Phantom and Firkin and then The Village.
I put a link yesterday to an old pubs website but it's been removed, easy enough for you to google Luke..

I think the pub your thinking of is the greyhound and hare closed in 2004 174 balaam street. Or at 140 balaam street is the Village at Plaistow.
