There are no words to express how much I enjoyed this tutorial. I learned this keerthanam as a child when I simply knew it was a popular piece - I had no appreciation for the entire beauty of the composition. Then two years ago I relearned it from the digital platform, understood the beauty of the notes but still did not understand all the intricacies of the song. Your tutorial has taken the learning to the next level - understanding and bringing out the sahityam, the beauty and versatility of the instrument.... Because I am relearning this piece for the third time, my progress is slow - my prior learning/techniques come in without my realizing it. (I am realizing that it is easier to start with a clean slate!) Your last few minutes of advice was very helpful - that we could bring out the beauty of the song in different ways. I am still working on the pallavi - but I am determined to improve my playing with everything you have taught me through these tutorials. Once again, thank you so much for taking the time to come up with such detailed lessons for us.
@@malaviswanathan When the alapana comes at the very end of a composition, we don't worry about the thaalam. But here we are finishing the anupallavi portion of the keerthanam with the alapana and the charanam has to start in the next lagu. A vocalist can physically put thaalam and keep count - but how do you do it on veena so that you start the charanam in the correct count.
A very important doubt. It is expected of the student to be aware of the tala flow. either with their tala strings, leg taps, metronome or mridangam apps . In the olden times when the digital apps were not available, students had someone putting the talam in front of them. So go ahead and use these apps to help with the alaapana and start positions of krithis.
The four main playing strings and the three drone strings of the Saraswathi veena , can be used to produce sounds ,other than what is required for the sahityam or manodharma. In this video I show you ,how one can bring out the sound of ringing bells using these various frequencies
