As I move into the Charanam phase, I am really excited to try the Neraval - have never done it before. I am so grateful for the opportunities you provide to explore and learn music.

@@malaviswanathan As I was working through the neraval was wondering if there is a reason why we consider it to be a single avarthanam with 8 beats per note rather than two avarthanams with 4 counts per beat. It might be something I do no know about neraval. Also as I wrap this tutorial up, want you to know that I had hours of joy learning this piece which is so dear to my heart - feel so blessed to learn from you.

Thanks Nimmy for finishing and commenting on all 3 parts. A small correction. It is 8 notes/ beat and that is the 4 th speed in carnatic music

Thanks for clarifying. I went up to only 3 speeds in my exercises so did not know this. There is always so much to learn!

Thank you for these tutorials madam! They are so helpful!! Came across a few videos for this song but yours was by far the best one here. The passion you have towards music and teaching made this tutorial extra special. You're an amazing teacher, I really wanted to play this song although I haven't reached the advanced level yet and you helped me achieve it! Thanks a lot again 😊

In this video I have introduced Neraval, an important part of Manodharma. It is a small demonstration to make students aware and boldly explore some beautiful aspects of Carnatic music. As I always say , follow these steps - observe, gain knowledge and practice. I hope this three part series of Vatapi Ganapathim Bhaje has opened up multiple dimensions of thinking for the serious learners. Best wishes

I am not here to complain or questioning your talent. In all 3 videos of vathabi the pitch is kept changing. It’s in between of D# and E. Finding hard ti match with your pitch

Your observation is perfect SaVina. I need to mention something about tuning a veena where the melam , has a slight imperfection in the frequency. In the case of this veena the mantra Shadjam and Tara Shadjam were both slightly sharp. In such a scenario, tuning has to be cautiously done to reduce the sharpness that comes from these notes. A slight reduction helps to balance it out. This is a done thing in veena tuning. This video was shot in 2 sittings, hence you see the difference. Thanks for your query, since this topic needed to be addressed.

@@malaviswanathan okay, it makes sense now. For teaching purpose perfect tuning will help many 🙏
