    Well done. Very good job. I advice you not to wear any accessories such as ring etc. while work on it for protection. Thanks for the video.

    First...You did do a good job. Thanks for posting.
    I have seen other videos useing the same procedure. Cold engine, checking oil with an empty/dry filter, etc. I just don't like it.
    While this may be per Mercury specs, I would not feel comfortable doing it this way. Too much money invested in that engine.

      Thanks for your comment! I understand the concerns you cite. The specs dont address cold vs hot engine, etc. Maintenance on boat motors (and boat trailers) seems to be one area a lot of people overlook or put off until there is a problem. This 2009 20 hp has had the oil changed every year (sometimes more than once a year) since it was bolted to this boat, in the manner shown in the video. For the fiirst five years, the motor was used virtually everyday. Now the motor is used once a week. The motor still runs great! Again, thanks for your feedback!

      @@masterblasterextreme Thanks for the video, used to double check I wasn't missing anything as I only got my motor at the end of last year and because I have several other outboards and numerous other motorcycles etc. I wanted to be sure I remembered the procedure correctly regarding the tilting etc. of the motor.

    Shouldn't your engine be level when checking your oil level, just curious. Thanks

    Thank you for your excellent video! Just a question: At the end, when you checked the oil level, your motor was not level, but maybe it is the way to do it... Does the motor have to be level?

    • @masterblasterextreme
      @masterblasterextreme  6 лет назад

      The way I did it is how the manual says to do it.This is the same way the oil has been changed in this motor since 2009, with no problems. Thanks!

    • @KungPowEnterFist
      @KungPowEnterFist 6 лет назад

      It could just be a trick of the camera. Maybe it is correct as shown. You are supposed to check the engine oil level with the outboard vertical, i.e., trimmed so that the outboard anti cav plate is parallel to a level ground. The manual says "upright (not tilted)," but Im sure being off a couple degrees will not be the end of the world.

    after refilling the oil do you have to retilt back into the up position at any time before starting? OR after refiling the motor is ready to be ran. I have a 2014 25hp Murc 4stroke

    • @masterblasterextreme
      @masterblasterextreme  7 лет назад +1

      It is ready to go once the oil level is at the proper amount.

    Have the same motor, cannot loosen the drain plug! Have done it before do you think I could use an impact wrench to loosen plug?

      That I dont know. I have never had the drain plug that tight.

      hell no.. put a pipe on your wrench for leverage

    • @watercool5
      @watercool5 3 года назад

      for anyone reading now…no! Stripping your drain plug is a huge problem. Heat it up with a torch, spray a bit of penetrating oil, and go easy. If it really is stuck, you can always pump the oil out the top with an extractor.

    Nice engine and video! But i think you need to trim your engine a little bit more straight.. Or it's because it stands on a trailer.

    • @masterblasterextreme
      @masterblasterextreme  6 лет назад

      I know. I have testing different trims due to the amount of people in the boat. Once you get four adults, the boat becomes extremely sensative to trim and weight placement.

      john Fishandboat Ah🤔 yeah i did say it because i got also an Mercury 20 HP on an 3,5 meter rib. And after trimming the engine up, it gives me 2/3 km/h more speed and faster plane😁

    • @fiveowaf454
      @fiveowaf454 5 лет назад

      @@rubenuidam8684 I've been struggling to find the right trim with mine, the adjustment options are fairly course with the holes provided and I suspect the optimum for me is between two of the holes. However it seems you need the engine somewhat tucked under for stern lift, as this is a heavy motor (mine has power tilt and electric start) and then you have the operator also well back in the boat, if you try to trim out at all the bow shoots skyward. With a RIB you have the sponsons going out past the stern so I suspect you can trim higher than I can on my Aluminum boat.

    • @rubenuidam8684
      @rubenuidam8684 5 лет назад

      @@fiveowaf454 Yeah thats true, I use a Gala 360 Rib. I trimmed it really high. While full speed the hydrofoils (which are above the propeller) are out the water. That means that the top of the prop is out the water. While alone I can't even open the gas for 100% because it hits to much RPM, I hear that in the engine. Its like you have the engine lifted out the water while giving gas, that sound. Idk how much RPM I get but its above the specs of the engine. I run alone 49km/h with a 20 Hp Mercury 2016 model and a Gala 360D rib boat.

      @@rubenuidam8684 I found getting a TinyTach or similar from ebay a huge help getting set up. Knowing exact rpm and speed with gps on my phone gives you the info needed to make decisions on propeller pitch and trim. 49kp/h is going very well, my top speed is just over 20mph (33kp/h)

      It has an aluminum 10 pitch prop. On flat water with only me, it will go 23mph. With another adult, it will go 19 mph. With three adults, it will hit 15-16 mph.

    Can I use quicksilver 25w-40 for my 25hp mercury 4 stroke?

    • @masterblasterextreme
      @masterblasterextreme  6 лет назад

      I would only use the oil weight recommended by the owners manual.

    • @vanaukentim
      @vanaukentim 5 лет назад

      I have a 2016 15 hp mercury 4 stroke and it recommends 25w-40. Take a look at the manual to make sure.

    • @fiveowaf454
      @fiveowaf454 5 лет назад

      @@vanaukentim Those oils are recommended, but being cynical I think the Mercury 25w-40 oil is a bit of a ruse by Mercury to guilt you in to buying it, since at one time no one else had that grade and they recommend it for their Mercruiser inboard engines , I see some other brands are appearing now. Secondly these engines are built by Tohatsu who do not recommend such oil for their outboard motors, they only state a 10w-30 oil. Based on that I'd rather go with their recommendation, but because I have a lot of motorcycles and various oils lying around I'm currently using a 10w-40 full synthetic oil. Within reason I don't believe the grade makes much difference, having clean good quality oil, changed regularly in anything is the key to a long life. However in the marine environment corrosion is a consideration and so specific marine oils may have something in terms of additives that could be beneficial in salt water and damp environments. I only boat in fresh water and in a hot dry climate, motorcycle oil still has some different additives because a motorcycle often sits for long periods not being used, where corrosion could be an issue and also is for high revving engines, so there are things akin to an outboard. Generally for me it's availability, marine oils are harder to find and more expensive than the motorcycle oils I can get in Walmart or similar. On the plus side with only just over a quart in the motor, using whatever appeals is not going to be prohibitive in a small outboard. However I don't use the Mercury 25w-40 in my Mercruiser 350 Mag, because of the much higher capacity making it much more pricey than using other easily obtained and cheaper products which are going to be every bit as good in a big V8, IMO. If I were going to use Quicksilver oil in my Mercury outboard I'd use the 10w-30 as recommended by Tohatsu viscosity wise.
