Aikman is a perfect example of why stats are often misleading. His numbers are fairly average but aikman was a great qb. He's in my top 12 all time. Aikman was extremely talented passer. Strong arm, accurate as hell and most importantly tough as hell, outstanding leader and always played his best in the playoffs. Aikman is one if the greatest playoff qbs ever.
Well said!
Yeah, totally! Also, he had Emmitt Smith, so he didn't need to pass very often.
Aikman was overrated. He was never on the same level as Steve Young or Brett Favre.
@@BlackLiesMatterhe played in their offenses, the numbers would be there
Hell yeah!!....ive always thought the same thing as a guy who looks everybody stats up I was surprised to see how average his numbers were. Those that watched him play know he's one of the greats especially in post season as you said.
My favorite quarterback of all time.
hahaha
Stev4e897 What's so funny?
Jared Cruz I'm not an eagles fan, Cowboys for life.
Yessss Sir!!!!
I love Troy aikmam true legend
Troy was my child hood hero growing up in Dallas and he is the greatest qb of all time in my eyes
Jaxx Robinson same here. Except I grew up in Alabama, but I was always a huge Cowboys fan. Aikman was like Superman to me when I was a kid.
It was always about the team. True dat, Troy. No wonder you still one of da greatest.
Romedawg dak is all about me me me i want money
I’m here after seeing TA’s emotional reaction to Jimmy Johnson’s HOF inductee surprise on air announcement.
@Jojew
Troy Aikman
The Quarterback, the Legend, the Man. The greatest Dallas Cowboys qb of all times. One of greatest qb of all times.
Troy Aikman was a great QB and leader, however Roger Staubach is arguably the best Cowboy of all time let alone Qb.
He would of won 6 rings if Johnson wasn't fired/quit..
gchannel correction Barry Switzer aka the goat
gchannel had Barry Switzer been able to coach the 2003 Dallas cowboys ohhhhhhhh
Barry was a bubbling moron just like you
Go suck off Barry you half a fairy !! Hahahahaha Scumbag !!!
Amen
The thing about him and those teams he played on that is remarkable is consistency and his accuracy was tops. From 1990 until '99 they had two losing seasons and I will agree with another commentator who said they should have won at least one more SB,they definitely left one or two on the table but as their dynasty was starting free agency was just beginning and they got looted once they begin to win and without the taskmaster Jimmy Johnson around after their 2nd SB things began to wane and they started having some off the field issues as well but hey that was an incredible group that came up from those drafts. And Troy is definitely an all time great.
i agree ..they should have won in 94 ( and four straight) but yeah ..FA's the cap , Jimmy Johnson leaving and having Switzer as "transition " coach from Johnson ...that all came together in that 94 season when it mattered (ESPECIALLY against SF)....though i think had the NFC championship game been played in Dallas (not that shitty mud hole in candlestick) Smith , Novacek , 100% healthy plus rookie tackle Erik Williams not on the IR ...that could have been different
Greatest Cowboys quarterback
Most underrated QB of all time
Aikman would have thrown for a million yards under any other 'pass first' offense. The fact that he had a solid offensive line and a hall of famer at running back does nothing to take away from his talent as an all time great quarterback.
If he ended up in Green Bay and was there when Holmgren arrived, for sure
Playoff time, I'd take Aikman over any QB in NFL history.
Are you kidding? He helped the Lions to their only playoff win of the last 33 years with his fumbles and picks.
His 3 interceptions and fumble lost the game to the Panthers in '96.
3 more picks, another fumble, a 37 rating and 0 points in the first 47 minutes AT HOME v. the awful Cardinals D in '98.
After that '92 season he was mediocre in the postseason with more picks than TDs.
He was lucky to have the best RB in the NFL and an All-Pro defense for all those years.
Pens Suck 11-4 playoff record, 3-0 in the Super Bowl, not a bad choice. Not who I'd personally pick but still not bad.
And yet he was 11-5 in the playoffs, including his 3 Super Bowl victories (5 TDs, 1 INT). He also demolished a favored Buffalo team in '92, posting a 140.2 QBR in that game). Every successful QB has had help from the running game or a great defense, often both. Eli Manning is garbage and he has two Super Bowls because of the Giants' defense. Tom Brady wouldn't look so special without Belicheat and that Patriot defense.
Pens Suck I'm not saying Aikman wasn't good in the postseason, but to pick him over everyone else seems illogical. He only led one game-winning drive in 16 playoff games and his last 3 were disasters.
Michael Murphy is having a good defense and a good rb a bad thing?!
Troy is the reason they won 3 SBs. He was the MAN
greatest playoff quarterback of all time
Man growing up in Far north Dallas in Carrollton/Plano/LosColinas/Irving in the 90s was an amazing time for sports
Why just that area? The entirety of North Texas. If you are talking about high school football as well then Stephenville was as dominant as anyone during that time.
Troy Aikman is a great quarterback, who like Roger Staubach, always win when it counts most. If not for Emmit Smith, Aikman could have more TD passes in his career. Sometimes, stats don't tell the whole story.
happy birthday Troy
3-0 as a Dallas Cowboy QB in 3 SB!!!! Great Days were going to be in the SB again but I miss Troy and the Boys win and play!!!
#DC4L
Aikman could have been the greatest ever if just the stars had aligned a little differently. If he hadn’t had so many concussions, if Jimmy Johnson had stayed with the Cowboys, etc.
As a lifer Cowboys fan, we have Roger and Troy in our history Troy the most successful QB of the 90's, when he retired he retired as the best QB statistically ever to play in the NFL Playoffs and honestly I am not and never have been or will be a stats person. When Roger retired he was the highest rated QB of ALL TIME in the NFL. You don't get no better. My two favorite Troy plays of all time are in 1989 when he stepped up in the pocket KNOWING he was going to decked and still threw the prettiest most accurate post pattern I have ever seen in my life for a TD (and I have over 650 Cowboys games and other films in my library, I have seen A LOT of football. The other best play was in a pre-season game in 1994 vs the Raiders. Troy was only going to be in for one series and he HAD...he HAD to get a TD. On third down he ran for the endzone and jumped in and he was hit by three Raiders, his had did two separate whiplash movements and as usual his chin was split making him a bloody mess. Michael Irvin not dressed ran down to Troy and was creaming at him why would you do that...why? Well Troy kept it a secret for years until the family of a small boy told the background of that play. There was a terminally ill child who only had at most a wee to live. His dream was to have a TD ball from Troy. Troy knew that was his last play of the game, it was third down. So he did what he did. The little boy got his touchdown ball and he died a couple days later. The little boy was buried with that ball.Troy Aikman is a hero and if you talk to Roger Staubach Roger will tell you without hesitation, after his era his favorite player of all time was Troy. Top 5 Cowboys QB's ever? 1. (1A) Roger 2 (really 1B) Troy 3. Danny White 4. Tony Romo and 5. Dandy Don Meredith 6. Craig Morton 7. Eddie LeBaron 8. Steve Beurline 9. Dak Prescot 10. Steve Pelluer 11. Drew Bledsoe
Yep
So you dont like stats ok Barry is a better runner then emmitt. And Tim brown is better then Irving. No hof qb shitty teams.
One of the most accurate passers ever. Many of his receivers dropped the ball not expecting it to hit them in their hands.
Best quarterback ever during my growing up. Troy Aikman will always be the best cowboys quarterback ever played
Grew up watching my Cowboys since 1986 then Troy came along and that first season he had made us all think he was a bust. Then we got Emmitt and things started turning around. Watched our 3 Super Bowls as a teen and Troy was a true leader who delivered lasers. Then he retired and we had to endure the slew of mediocore QBs until Tony came along. Tony was a heartbreaker and now Dak who cant throw the deep ball to save his life. I miss the good ole days and hope Dak practices the deep ball at least 1000x a day during the offseason.
Dak isn't the most accurate passer in the world but he was ranked the highest in the NFL at throwing passes that traveled 20 yds or more in the air in 2019
Pat Summerall said he was the most accurate passer he'd ever seen. I can not argue that point he was amazingly accurate. The stats were not there because they were a running team. To see folks say he was a game manager is ridiculous. One of the best to ever play the position period. They definitely left a couple of Lombardi's on the table. Minimum he should have gotten four, had Jimmy not left most likely would have won four straight.
He was the Trent Dilfer of his time!
My favorite QB
All the people saying he's overrated or he wasn't any good are either Cowboys haters who refuse to admit any Cowboys player is good or they never even saw him play and are just stat heads comparing his stats to today's over inflated QB stats.
I love this quarterback my favorite
This is what I have been looking for ! For him to Admit he had the Ability ! To get the ( FOOTBALL) Down the field ! I'm impressed ! Ya Hoo!
troy aikman one of the top 10 qbs to play the game in my opinion i have him ahead of young ,favre and elway
agreed
Great quarterback surprised he didn’t throw for 20 plus tds most seasons in his career.
Perfect example of a QB you had to watch to understand why he was great. Put him in todays offenses and hes throwing for 4k a season and 30 td's. Even compared to the offenses of the day it was the opposite of west coast. The pass plays they ran werent QB friendly.
Watch the games. One of the most accurate passers in history. If not the most accurate.
There are only three qb's in NFL history that won more Super Bowls.
andromeda gen and 1 of them (TB12) has asterisks to go with it and could have easily had 5 SB losses had the opposing team not shot themselves in the foot. If Aikman played in the pass happy league of today, along with it’s quarterback catered rules, there’s no telling what Troy could have done.
Tu ama
If Jimmy Johnson was not fired, Troy would have won 6 or 7 Super Bowls.
Brian Brown here we go.......🙄
Yours Truly he’s right tho
Named my son after this guy! 🙌
THE REASON WHY IM A COWBOY FAN...DC4L!...
Oh how sweet it was in the 90s.
3 rings Superbowl 27 MVP still holds QB challenge accuracy record. Also completion percentage IN PLAYOFFS. loved the game Troy was a leader on football field I heard Micheal Irvin once say you could hear pin drop in huddle when troy spoke team listened let's not forget he beat all the legends Young, Farve, Jim Kelly by far a true Dallas Cowboy.
Happy Birthday Troy Aikman!
named my son after this legend
hrosales39 lit
the cowboys headed for another championship real soon.
That team DOMINATED. I hate ya say it, ‘cuz I’m 49ers all the way. But that Dallas team was scary.
Aikman was underrated
From a Niners fan, Legend
Y'all talk like stats automatically sent yo to the HoF, even though Owens is still waiting to be inducted going down as one of the top 3 receivers in the history of the NFL.
ZZS D Owens just got inducted today. Dude deserves it
legend
Aikman and Romo. My top 2 qbs
Troy Aikman has very pedestrian stats for a Hall of Famer.
Alock the superbowls is probably the reason
Alock When you have a running back like Emmit Smith you don't have to throw much
Alock they ran a balanced offense so he didn't have to throw for 300+ for them to win... basically how the cowboys are playing now
Alock there are only three qb's in the history of the game that have more rings then him lol gosh!!!!!!
Alock That's because we had the all time leading rusher so we didn't have to pass every doen
he got the biggest system and best players around him
Cryptic 90 is that a bad thing?
A Biracial Racist no...its just saying he wouldnt have those three rings without that team and system
Cryptic 90 okay then we can make the argument that brady is good only because of bill belichick
A Biracial Racist actually brady is the solution to bill belichick.
Cryptic 90 okay so if belichick DIDN'T have brady, and brady was on the browns or the jaguars you think bradu would've won superbowls
He's is somewhere from 8th to 10th on the best QB ever list
+Tyler G he's not even better than Young or Favre either
Honestly there is probably 8 to ten QBs in the league today that are better lmfao
Troy Aikman doesn't get the recognition that he definitely deserves.
honestly, I think troy Aikman was a bit overrated. he only had one season with 20 td or above and the rest his tds match with his interceptions.
Rams: Legacy is coming playoff and super bowl teams but sure did help the teams he was on we're stalled
Rams: Legacy is coming stalked *
Well that is because Emmitt Smith ran for a lot of touchdowns
Rams: Legacy is coming the NFL was VERY different 20 years ago throwing was secondary to running these days it's the other way around for most teams although it seems like it's going back to running
Josh trtrtr still, the ratio between his interceptions and tds were almost identical. he was what we call game manager.
Here is my top 10:
Tom Brady
Joe Montana
Troy Aikman
Drew Brees
Johnny Unitas
Peyton Manning
Brett Farve
Kurt Warner
John Elway
Eli Manning.
Special Mentions :
Joe Namath
Tony Romo.
Like if you agree!
The one disliker is a 49er's fan
TheDeckMaster true
And now are 14, between an 49ers, redskins, steelers, eagles, giants, packers, and maybe texans or patriots fans
I’m a lifelong 9er fan, but this guy is best deep ball passer ever.
The NFL was better back in those days. Hardly watch it now.
Troy Aikman is like a sponge for this stuff.
My top 10 QBs
1. Brady
2. Montana
3. Aikman
4.Marino
5. Farve
6. Elway
7. Peyton Manning
8. Terry Bradshaw
9. Roger Stabauch
10. Brees
Aikman was a gamer.
If Walsh and Johnson stayed put, you'd be saying Tom who.together they had 7 sb wins and NO LOSSES
Splitting ball responsibilities with Emmitt Smith hurt Aikman’s stats. He never really got to show what he could do.
these were the real dallas cowboys the team of my childhood
Aikman's Achilles heal Barry Switzer and John Blake
Will always believe that Cowboys coaches after JJ should have gone to heavy passing game using Aikman from 1996 until he retired.
He threw the ball well but he also was inconsistent
One of the most overrated qb of all time. A game manager in a great team and an INT machine
@Zach Wachs How many did you start?
He’s still one of only four QBs to win 3 Super Bowls 🤷🏻♂️
Troy was the HC in 1995
4th because it definitely matters
Fireeeeee Jason Garret!!!!!!
They would've 3peated if Jimmy Johnson never left!
In a big game their was no one better
LETS GO COWBOYSSSS
of.cource.u.can't.compare troy aikman with.brady aka deflated balls Troy is.the best
6 rings bud remember that
Troy
Los Dallas son los que más Súper bowls ganados tienen empatados con Steelers
Staubach>Aikman>Romo>White
Watchout for Prescott.
interception prone asf but still the GOAT
he starts to come and then he pulls out
How bout' dem' Cowboys!
hi
He would've won four straight championships with Dallas if Jerry Jones hadn't fired Jimmy Johnson
Dan Marino had no Hall of Fame receivers and he threw for 5,000 yards in a season while Troy Aikman had a Hall of Fame receiver in Michael Irvin and never even threw for 4,000 yards in a season....smh
Troy Aikman was carried by the best offensive line, best running back, best cornerback and one of the best wide receivers in the league at that time.
He was carried by Larry Allen, Emmitt Smith, Michael Irvin and Deion Sanders....smh
Troy and his team would whip Dak and his team
Now that offense was basic, and Troy wasn't the gunslinger of folk lore, and his stats arnt wild, but it took a lot to wrangle that team. Irvin, emmit, and a felonious offensive line?
Here after JJ got HOF video
I think he was the greatest QB ever. Think about it, if Tom Brady and Troy Aikman switched coaches after they each won 3 superbowls in 4 years who would you take? So Troy Aikman with Bill Belichick or Tom Brady with Barry Switzer?
Better than Marino, Elway, Favre, Young, kelly, .... Up there with Montana, Brady.... To Me Aikman is one of the top 5 ever. Coming From An Eagle's Fan
And how is he better than those 5? Put up Average stats and had only 1 season of 20 or more TD Passes and Never had an MVP Like season like 4 out of those 5 Qbs you just named had... He was a great postseason Qb but I got him at 10th Behind Favre, Elway,Young, Marino and Warner
Aikman was a game manager
would have or would've...
i know i probley because of my age of 13 i should be idealizing mahomes lamar brady but i idelize troy aikman and tony romo
had to remind myself what a real QB is like
if hes so great why is his highlight reel 4 min??
they have 3 players in the HOF that stats is not elite
RG3 #SMOKINGTHAT3 #10hunnit #DAWGPOUND #17-16MVP you play for the browns.. L
Any QB would be good behind that line.
Zeus PS4 Nope. Sorry to burst your bubble about your man love Troy.
Zeus PS4 aww the little moron is mad.
atrain 34007 is that a bad thing?
atrain 34007 anyone can looked good under bill belicheat
Oldheads: *Troy Aikman was the best*
If he can be a hall of famer so can Eli Manning!
Dan Marino threw more touchdown passes in his first 5 seasons than Aikman did in his whole career
EJMtheGREAT I'm sure Marino will take Aikman's rings over those touchdowns.
Silent Noise I know I would if I was Marino
EJMtheGREAT
Dan Marino never won a god damn Super Bowl.
Jesus Christ saves people from their sin(evil).
EJMtheGREAT shut up old guy
Those are some fire handoffs to emmit. Just being real he was never a great qb
Just A Nike Sweatshirt better than Romo in the playoffs
If Dan Marino was quarterback of the Cowboys they would have won 6 straight Super Bowls!
Terry Bradshaw?
Aikman is a Legend, while Romo is a bust of the Cowboys.
"supersonic Lazer blast" sounds cool, but is the DUMBEST thing I've ever heard! Aikman is definitely the most underrated QBs of all time
