    I've been making moss poles from pvc for about 5 years. Their easy and it easily deals with the problem of rot and the need for expansion.

    Thank you again! These are inexpensive and I will be making a few this weekend! For the smaller ones I need I’m going to try the broom poles from the Dollar Tree.

    👍👍Nice and easy!! Thanks for the video! Would it be ok if we cover the moss with some jute or cotton cloth? (Just to ensure that the moss doesn't slip off the pipe?) And also want to know how are we going to remove the roots from inside the holes in case we need to change the moss stick?

      Hi Shuchi! I used a cotton rope here, but you can use any material to secure the moss to the PVC pipes. Some people use fishing lines, polyester ropes, chicken wire, etc. My moss pole uses the moss for more of aesthetic purposes; my intention is to guide the aerial roots to the soil neatly.
      Just so it's clear, having seen my grandmother's huge unruly monstera, and the difficult repotting process, I'd like to mention that once the monstera grows big and the aerial roots take their shape, it's challenging to change them, with or without the moss pole. That said, you will have to break the PVC moss pole if you want to get rid of the moss pole later with the roots in it. I'd say to repot with the moss pole :)
      If the roots have filled the space inside the moss pole, let the rest of the aerial roots free roam. they won't look as neat but we can guide them to the soil.

      @@olivebranch9742 Okay. Thanks for the information. I can totally relate to what you said about the Monstera in your grandmother's garden. I have a Syngonium growing like that! It's a regular moss stick (so, no holes there!) and the roots have penetrated the moss so extensively that it is impossible to remove the moss stick without damaging the roots.
      Thanks again.😊🙏

    I am curious about the bamboo skewers rotting? Do you treat them with anything before planting or do you swap them out when they begin to rot?

    • @olivebranch9742
      @olivebranch9742  2 года назад

      Hi! So far my bamboo has not developed mold. Cedar and bamboo are supposed to be resistant to mold and rot. If you want nothing to do with mold, I suggest you use pvc pipes (they sell half inch or quarter inch pipes at hardware stores for cheap).

    Honestly, Im not sure in the first one, like. How the roots suppose to find the holes? And if they grow thicker than the hole it will cut it...

    • @olivebranch9742
      @olivebranch9742  2 года назад +1

      Hi! I would guide the roots to the holes initially. You could let some roots take shape in the pipe and some escape and free roam... or use a larger diameter. By the time the plant is big enough to fill the PVC pipe, you're probably due for repotting = work for us lol.
