A jack of all trades, master of none, is still always better than a master of one. The more I watch your channel the more impressed I am by your talents and abilities. Well done man. I love the little detail things you do that just round out a project, like the rounded gussets, and the handle out of a single piece of 1x1 tubing. Good stuff. Also, your dog is great.
Very nice build, and stop motion Christtmas nestalgia. You have out done yourself sir. Your dog is amazing, but he knows better. #boundaries. It's a little bit of a change going from a transformer style to an inverter. MIG welding with inverter seems more fussy on dirty stuff versus the transformer seems to cut through better. However the inverter stick welder is amazingly smoother over the transformer.
Great video and cart build, thank you! Awesome painting! I had no idea you could paint like that, great job! I just love that dog, she is so smart and well behaved! I look forward to seeing her in your videos, thanks for including her for us!
Nice cart, I am so jealous at how effortlessly you painted that I can hardly see straight right now. But then I watched your dog outsmart you so that made me feel a little better. I have to give it to your dog. You established terms, & came to an agreement. However your dog came up with some sort of 3D chess move. "Hey I agreed to leave THAT chip and pork. You didn't say anything about the rest of the bag. I called dibs after you left."
Did not expect you to have been a fine woodworking type person. You seem so efficient and pragmatic. Also did not expect you to be so artistically talented. Nice work on the welding cart!
Thanks. I designed and built custom furniture and fireplace mantles for million dollar homes for a long time. I got bored of working with wood and wanted to branch out to metal work.
Spark-O-Matic has become your trade name - it's a classy addition. Love the homage to the Gumby style claymation stop-motion final cart display/dance sequence. Ginger clearly did not take the obvious bait but wins points for finding the 'alternate' solution.
If my memory serves me correctly, (which is sometimes in doubt) back in the 60's Spark-O-Matic was the brand name of a cheap 3sp. floor shifter for guys who were really on a tight budget.
Loved the Build, but mostly admired your pooch for NOT eating the BBQ laden Chip. And she's right...you said Nothing at all about the bag of chips! lol Cheers my Friend! Zip~
Very nice work brother! I love the vintage inspired paint scheme. I felt it needed larger square tubing uprights but it will do the job. Well planned, well executed, great space saver! Super smart red healer! I had one for 16yrs, and I sure miss her! Keep up the great work!
Whoever taught me that touching the surface I’m welding on with bare hands was a guaranteed way to receive a painful shock, clearly has led me astray. Welding will be more enjoyable now that I don’t have to work on my table like Im working on a nuclear bomb. Thanks for the video and nice pup!
I built my cart very similar to that. I built mine a little taller to hold my chop saw on the bottom, Miller Thunderbolt on second shelf, and Hobart Handler 185 on top. I made room on the back for two bottles, but only have one. In the space for the second bottle I put a bracket to hang the extension cord. Has worked a dream. I like the drawer in the bottom. The attention to detail and the paint job are exceptional. Most all of my shop furniture is bare steel. Trying to find the motivation to paint it all this spring. Wish me luck.
It is not fair that you have that much talent and skill. Please send some my way. Best welding cart I have seen. Absolutely perfect for sure. Those saws are fabulous. Thanks for the video.
I love what you did with the paint job! I still remember the red gas can that you painted...amazing! Edit: Also, Ginger is so sweet. It brightens my day to see you two
You've got a gift of teaching man. I just discovered ye's a week ago and blown away at your skills. I enjoy reading your thoughts so don't stop them. Such reminds me of my papa and uncle whose imaginations and design critical solutions for tools (we could obviously not afford) i.e. wrenches with crazy bends, shortened/ extended wrenches, valve spring compressing tool, three, two arm pullers, etc, etc. And my favorite of all a tire bead contraption as per > (1/4'' by 3x3 angle iron a few inches longer than a truck tire. A chain twice as long as the L . One end of the chain was fixed to one end of the iron. The other end of the chain would go over the tire and a link was set into a notch cut out of the L and secured. Now a bottle jack put in the center of the wheel and then put the middle of the L. You'd pump the jack to lift the L that would pull the chain, which would break the bead (and of course, it was all made with drops and painted real nice of course, lol. I think I used about a half a can of metallic lime Kralon on a three foot drop of L, lol. Dad would always tell us, if we didn't have it we'd make it. Seemed he'd go thru all that just so that he uncle kid around and say, it's "Injunuity" it's Injunuity that's all. Anybody read this one? Hey? Hello? Is their any body out there? My brain is fried man.
I don't even weld (yet) and watched it all. I liked how you used your woodworking skills on the metal. Your videos always deserve more than one thumbs up. It is funny how years ago everything included O matic as a suffix, another one was O rama. I remember my parents bowling at the Bowlorama when I was a kid.
Nice Cart. That multi-use welder looks like a great machine. Sure saves space. The detail of the cart I like the most is how it nests into the bench top. Neat idea.
Spark-o-matic was an inexpensive brand of auto radios back in the day (before your time, I expect). Amazing dog for sure, Moe. Really nice design on the welder cart and amazing art work.
I was originally going to name it Old Sparky(electric chair) but thought it may be distasteful. Then I chose Weld-O-Matic but they are a current company selling spot welders. So I mixed both of those names name and Googled it. I saw they were out of business and the name worked, so I took it on myself to make it my own.
Great cart build, I had to laugh at the logo, spark o matic is what we used to call the cheap car stereos bought from K-Mart back in the early 80's. I enjoyed the video.
I was originally going to do "ol sparky" but decided it wasn't tasteful. Then Weld O Matic but they're a current company making spot welders. So I combined the two and I did look it up and saw the cheap radios they used to make and figured why not.
Yours is MUCH nicer than mine!!! You are a talented lil' booger aren't you? While mine isn't fancy ... or painted ... or even square for that matter; I did put something on mine that I can't live without. I have a heavy duty metal power outlet strip mounted on the side of the upper tray with a retractable cord that plugs it in. I keep 2 grinders and a wire wheel plugged in and hanging on the side. Anyway ... NICE WORK!
That's a good idea. I thought about putting a 220v junction box so I only had to plug one thing in to have my welder and plasma powered at the same time. I could easily add a few 20amp 120v plugs as well and mount it.
Your dog out smarted you Moe! Great dog! Hey, you obviously have some sign painting background... Can you maybe do a video about it to cover some of the basics as well as I'm sure you'll have some simple, unique, clever tips to go along with it like always! Just another cool skill to have tucked away in a DIYers toolbox... Plus this is getting to be, if not already, a lost art. Much love brother
I will NEVER build one of these. But I enjoyed watching you do it! Love the vintage lettering and pinstripe job too. I have a question. If you were to build a bracket to compress a car/truck spring, using flat bar stock. What minimum thickness do you think would safely do the job without bending? Kicking myself for not taking metal shop in high school 🤣🤣🤣
Spark-O-Matic made radios speakers and transmission shifters, I have a nos auto shifters I just put in a homemade small engine rail drag cart. Too Cool.
How does all of this come to you? If you're anything like me, you can't stop thinking about stuff so sleep is a problem! I wish my execution was as brilliant as yours. Maybe watching you more will give me ideas and the confidence to try doing some stuff. Keep the ideas coming, we'll keep watching!
Looks awsome!. I'm looking to put a pull handle on the front of my cart. At the front ,bottom of my welder shelf. I'm going to make mine out of 3/8 log chain. I got 100 ft. Someone through out. Score!,lol!. I have a collection of bungie s hooks I can hang stuff on the sides. Vary cool cart 👍👍
Doesn't someone in your family own Miller Electric? With your last name I pretty sure you can just call in and say you own the company and they'll send one right out.
1:00 top heavy is not good either, and a bit of top working surface is handier if you have a TiG welder with knobs instead of having to play with a screen and menus. But you built it how you wanted. So good!
True. I have to say though, I love having the welder/settings at that height. My old cart kept the welder on the ground and it was a pain. I don't store the saw ECT on it anymore and just use the lower shelf for helmet/gloves.
When I was a kid I had a cheap set of Spark O Matic car speakers ..I when to wiki pedia and they made radios tachs gauges etc in the 60's .....Nice cart for being made from scrap metal
Thanks, I'm glad you liked it. I googled the Spark-o-Matic and say they made radios. I was going to paint Weld-O-Matic but they are a current business selling spot welders.

Andvi love your cutoff I have the old school abrasive cutoff works good but leaves a mess in the shop or were ever your working will those blades work with an abrasive cutoff motor I don't think it spins a third of the rpm. Likely would destroy that blade as it touches the material to be cut.

In. my region, that welder No hooks to hang cords? I would make a couple of tank racks which fit over the top of the tank. The expanded metal for the bottom of the drawer is a nice touc
