The Neighborhood that Calvin Klein grew up in was the same neighborhood that The Mascharelli Family aka The Marshals who were the driving force behind Happy Days, Laverne & Shirley, and bought Pretty Woman to the big screen.
Barry and Calvin all but grew up together and they studied for their Bar Mitzvah together. Calvin and Barry were perfect for each other. Calvin was the creative one, Barry handled The Profits. He also was heavily influenced by Halston but he knew whom to align himself with. One of which was Chester Weinberg who took Calvin under his wing like a protege and he had his First "Male" Weekend at Fire Island in The Pines which was over the years a Mecca for Gay Men. In later years David Geffen would borrow 50 Million from David Geffen and convinced him to use Mark Wahlberg aka Marky Mark as a model for the Underwear Division. It worked like a charm and his Underwear is next to Tommy HIlfiger's and Ralph Lauren's some of the most successful in the world. They are also synonomous in Hip Hop Fashion.
I like Calvin Klein now I would like to meet him.

Thank you Guys for a very detailed videos full of information! I will like to share one thing, actually a perspective for me towards the 90's for me it seems as Calvin Klein was following style wise what Giorgio Armani was already doing. Please jump in and argue the point!

....Calvin was before Armani by almost a decade...and he came with an American point of view and was NOT pretentious like Armani....Giorgio had better access to fine fabrics and revolutionized the CUT and DRAPE of SUITS....whereas Calvin revolutionized MARKETING and ADVERTISING...and the celelbration of FITNESS....SENSUALITY...with a very heavy dose of THREATENING SEXUALITY...Armani celebrates....QUIET GOOD TASTE....they both reference CINEMA....however Calvin has always been about blending that with MODERNITY...i enjoy them both....however CALVIN....addresses the reason WHY people wear clothes....Armani...makes beautiful clothes
