  • What are the signs of ADHD in women? Why are so many women suddenly being diagnoised with ADHD? And if you have signs of ADHD, what should you do?
This is an important conversation I had back in 2021 with a blogger friend for mine Katy from What Katy Said. As a woman in her 30s she had just been diagnosed with ADHD, so Katy joined me for an Instagram live chat to share the signs and symptoms to look out for, as it seems they are often missed in women and girls.
The conversation blew my mind. Never before this moment had it entered my mind that I may have ADHD, but every point she said resonated with me in some way.
Since this Instagram live, I cannot tell you hoe many messages I have had from women saying that following this conversation, they have since sought an assessment and been diagnosed with ADHD.
The audio and video quality is not up to my usual video standard as it is taken from Instagram, but I felt it was too important not to share.

I was diagnosed with ASD and ADHD a couple of months before my 40th birthday. Seeing as you have children with neurodiversity it wouldn't surprise me if you also had one or the other or both. It's a real eye opener when you suddenly realise and also when this is confirmed by profressions. It's certainly helped me to be a little more compassionate towards myself. Good luck on your journey of discovery. I hope you get the information that you need

I am EXACTLY like Katy 😂
I got my ADHD diagnosis just over a year ago. Within my diagnosis process it was also suggested I have Autism and I have my autism assessment next month.
Thank you for the video it was a great watch.

You are very organized for some one with possible ADHD.

That's what someone said to me (but I'm no where as organised Rhi is)

I always thought I was trying to get organised because "Mum life" but I wonder how much of it is more like coping mechanisms for my chaotic brain? x

Exactly ADHD is so debilitating when I see a planner or food plan ect like in these videos I feel overwhelmed and shut down. Couldn’t imagine creating them.

@Disneygirl90 I find the thought of making a meal plan, or a list, or packing for a trip very overwhelming. I just thought it was because it was a pain in the backside. Now i'm wondering if it's part of something a bit bigger. I get overwhelmed very easily, which as a mum of 3, running her own business, happens fairly regularly...

The time freezing for appointments is a big one for me and procrastination, addictive personality, the rejection anxiety.

Thank you for sharing, this is literally the video I wish I had seen prior to getting my diagnosis. Was diagnosed with autism and OCD in my teens and got an ADHD diagnosis in 2020 in my first year of university after a tutor noticed some things.
My mum suspected ADHD when I was younger and was told by my GP that you could not have both autism and ADHD

Hi Rhi, I identify with most of these but have developed strategies to cope as I’ve got older. I’m just wondering if there is any advantage to being ‘officially’ diagnosed?

I can’t answer as someone that’s been diagnosed as an adult but only as someone who was lucky enough to be diagnosed over 20 years ago, when it was still unusual to diagnose girls with adhd. Understanding my mind and behaviours and knowing where it’s coming from is very helpful. I am not constantly asking myself why I am different than others or why my emotions change so fast. Therefore I am not blaming myself. Also I was able to explain to my husband why I do certain things the way I do. He might be annoyed about my behaviour sometimes but he does not blame me for it. I do also think that I can ‚control‘ my adhd better. For example: ‚I really want to start this new hobby but I know after one week of hyperfocusing I will lose interest in it. So I will not buy everything you need for it because I will just throw out money out if the window‘
If you think you might have adhd you should really consider getting diagnosed!

The amount of time I spend looking for my phone is actually no joke...
I might try the alarm thing, I'm late for everything and get distracted so easily x

If you have an iPhone, getting an Apple Watch has been an absolute lifesaver. I have to ping my phone multiple times a day to find it. I also have reminders on my watch so I constantly see it.
