Thank you for this video! I love how you keep it all so simple. I would appreciate a video about how you work with each student, doing read aloud, math etc, and what your other children are doing at that time.
Thank you! That really varies from year to year (and family to family!) and honestly just when I seem to find our best routine something changes and we have to adapt! If you have preschoolers at home do be sure to watch my video on what to do with them while homeschooling for some ideas!
Thank you so much for this! It’s lovely to have someone with such experience using Ambleside Online, give their tips. I have been thinking and reading about so many new things with this curriculum, that as a newbie homeschooler, I wanted to just give up and get a way more open and go, consumer friendly curriculum. But I know I would regret it long term, so again, thank you. Steps I can do 👌 xx
This video has been all over my Instagram feed this week & I’ll be sharing it too! Thanks for sharing what has worked for you! I have some similar first day plans 😊.
Thank you! Could you do a video on planning and implementing multiple children’s AO year? I’m looking at 3 kids in my homeschool next year. How do you have time for all of the different readings? Thanks!
I know she didn't do this but I'm using AO for Groups and it's helped a ton! Personally I like the individual years better but Groups uses the same books, just in a different rotation. Once the kids are more independent, they can spin off into their own individual years. My 7 and 10 year olds are currently in Form 1B together because Y4 was challenging for my 9/10 year old coming from public school.
Prereading is helpful but not absolutely necessary before beginning AO. Certainly look at any books that have a red footnote on the AO page (indicating more mature or potentially offensive content). Usually the footnote will be pretty specific, so you don't have to read the whole book, just that bit. With multiple children, I just concentrate on prereading what i can of my oldest child's year. I certainly didn't preread anything I'd be reading aloud!
AO selections rarely change, but each year adds more time for each student. Also, our extracurricular schedule varies a great deal from year to year. Did that answer your question?

Also, she talks a bit about this in her placement video:)
About how long did your students spend reading lessons per day in the middle years? Say year 5-7?
I would love to know this as well
Your videos are so helpful. Thank you for making them!
I'm so glad! Thank you!
When you say “read through the books” do you skin them? Read through them cover to cover? What if you have multiple children in different years?

Curious in what ways the schedule changes for each child in years 5-12? Do you mean in the AO booklist or in the other subjects?

Most helpful, thank you!
