    For anyone who hasn't experienced 180 VR videos, you are missing out; especially if it's in 3D and 4k/8k.
    When done right, it's as close to the feeling of being somewhere as you can get. There's a reason Hou says you need special equipment when moving. The more real something looks, the more your brain is convinced you are and your inner ear says you're not and you get sick. So this tech isn't the gimmick that 3D TVs were. Although, I'm so glad they made them because I've built up quite a library of 3D movies for virtual theaters (if ONLY they were in 4k!). I remember trying a 3D TV at Best Buy and thinking "This isn't going to last". I'm not thinking that with 180/360 3D VR.
    Now I have no idea if this tech will ever go mainstream (main reason I haven't started shooting content). The hardware is still too heavy, uncomfortable, complicated to use (for non-techies), and expensive (same for those that film).
    But this tech isn't dying. It delivers an experience like nothing else. I've never visited Paris, but thanks to Hou, I felt how cramped and creepy the underground skull-filled tombs were. I've never visited New York or Japan, but I've experienced it a ton of times thanks to Slice of Life and RUclips. Yesterday, I was so close to Stonehenge, I could see the tiny plants growing out of the stone. A month ago, I was about a foot away from the face of a tiger and panther.
    These are things my poor butt would've likely died never having experienced. Looking at it on TV/monitor is NOT the same. With a screen, the person filming chooses what you see. With this tech, you choose what to focus on.
    I just hope the tech takes off enough to make tv shows/movies because the immersion potential is limitless.

    18 min recording in 8k 60fps is very little recording time. Just preparing the camera to record already consumes that time. How long should you wait for the camera to cool down to record another 18 min? The Clog2 is more difficult to expose and also has more noise. I think the overheating problem is present again as in the Canon R5. To record in VR180 you will want 8k 60 fps to have the highest image quality and 60fps is simply necessary in VR. The R5C has no overheating problems. Clearly the R5 Mark II is more oriented to photography with great advances in video. I think it is better to buy the R5C to record in VR180 or wait for the R5C Mark II.

    • @hughhou
      @hughhou  2 месяца назад +4

      So R5 C also has the same problem for 8K 60fps over 20-min continue recording depend on the power soluiton you use. They all have the same problem. The battery grip as it is not final production so it might change thing. Also AV is making card that does not generate so much heat that will help. It is not all fall on Canon.

    • @DavidGoncha
      @DavidGoncha 2 месяца назад +2

      @@hughhou So do you think Canon R5 mark II is a better camera for shooting VR180 videos? It has many advancements in video features like: 8k zoom, VR preview, Clog2, Digital IS (I prefer a gimbal for better results), Full-Hdmi, but it loses others like dual iso, cinema menus, from the R5C (I don 't want to talk about the oversampling 4k fine mode of the R5C because 8K gives better results in VR180)

    As an R5C owner i'm happy the R5 Mark II has been released but what I really want is an R5C Mark II. It would've been great if they released both cameras at the same time so we could choose the best one for our needs, but alas that's probably too much to expect from Canon!

    • @hughhou
      @hughhou  2 месяца назад +1

      I don't see there is ever an R5C Mark II. R5C is a niche product and very necessary 3 years ago to bridge the missing gap. Now tho, beside run time, R5 II overshine in every aspect. I think Canon might go super professional instead of making another middle product. I do love the idea of R5 C Mark II as anything else we can not afford it.

    I just tried using the new image stabilization features in the EOS VR Utility to stabilize footage shot on my Canon R5ii/dual fisheye lens on a DJI RS3 mini gimbal... it significantly decreases the FOV. Lesson learned-- always try to shoot VR180 on a tripod, or perhaps a more professional gimbal. Something similar would happen with the Insta360 EVO footage processed with the in-app "flow state stabilization" -- somehow it seemed to maintain the FOV but noticeably decreased the resolution.

    • @hughhou
      @hughhou  Месяц назад +1

      Yes FOV is needed for stabilization - as you need extra footage to move the image lol. You can get a wider result in Mistika as EOS VR utility lean on the "safe" side. But at least the stabilization is good and now we can handheld or gimbal it. There is no better gimbal btw, what you have is what I use and it is good or the best unless you want to use a vertical stabilization method as well or ARRI trinity.

    Sorry, sometimes I'm so slow on the uptake. I thought spatial and immersive video were pretty much the same. Now I get it....I think. Spatial seems more for those times with the family and kids where the effect tends to make the viewer feel as if he's there, but watching from a short distance away. Whereas immersive is where one feels as if he's actually in the video and could reach out and touch or actually be bitten by a dinosaur or a rhino, or walk on the grass he's virtually standing on.
    That makes my choice somewhat easier since IMMERSIVE is (mostly) what I want to do. I suppose now the question is, does one buy the Canon R5 Mark II, or wait for the Blackmagicdesign Immersive camera, supposedly due out before the end of the year?
    I think I'll wait and see what Hugh says after he tries the Blackmagicdesign Immersive camera, once it is released. Sound reasonable?
    Meanwhile I'm gonna watch this video several more time to see what else I can absorb.

      Just to put it out there the blackmagic 180 camera is gonna be REALLY expensive - like probably above 20K - 100K USD as it is a professional camera. If you have the budget then wait. But 99.9% of this camera is prob gonna be in the rental house for project that has Apple Budget... For the mortal, Canon is the most afforable option

      You right now only make video like with this camera and sideload into AVP. I have ton of tutorials on this channel about that. There is no RUclips for Vision Pro yet but Google is working on it last time I heard.

    It's funny they call it "VR preview" when there's really nothing VR about it. At first I thought it was going to be some kind of companion app where you can connect the camera to a headset and live preview in VR without 3rd party software. Maybe next time?

    Features are great. The UI is ludicrously awful. Do they have an app that makes all these features easier to access on your phone? Great shirt, BTW.
    Leveling is extremely important for VR. I get double vision and an immediate headache if the video is not level. I end up tilting my head which fixes it.

    Would like for you to test the recording limit of 8k60 raw, the published 21 min even with the cooling fan doesn't sound great vs r5c

    • @hughhou
      @hughhou  2 месяца назад

      Yes I won’t trust that too much tho. I think the cooling fan is not in production yet. They must allow more than 21 min recording! Also CFepress overheat is the problem as well. They now has new tech to make it cooler should be release soon.

    • @brynforbes7119
      @brynforbes7119 2 месяца назад +1

      Hopefully the production cooling grip ends up adding more than 3 minutes to the record time! Up until I saw this video, I had planned to replace my r5c. But since the cooling grip seems kind of pointless I’ll probably cancel my pre order and wait and see.

    Do anyone have the same problem like me to use the IS while filming with r5MKII and Dualfisheye 5.2 ? This option in the menue is grey , i can't start them. And also not use with VR Utility , Does someone an solution for this or knows what i could do wrong with this ?

    • @hughhou
      @hughhou  25 дней назад +1

      Oh shoot I have the same issue. Where is IS in the menu gray out btw? According to Canon - the IS is automatic turn on with data that can be use by EOS VR Utility - but I tested and do not think there is stabilization in EOS VR Utility. If you find out why please let us know as well. I think we just need a new firmware update

      I can’t start IS in the r5mk2 under the camera menu thing it was in the middle from point 7 or 8/10 ( i didn’t have it in my hands right now , and if i try , the error message comes that the reason is because of the connected lens .doesnt make sense for me , but what should i do with this information? which firmware do you have on the camera and on the lens ?
