    The cones look OK. But if supply of spares is not available and the cone isn't severely worn. The bearing surface can usually be refurbished with a small lathe(a drill will work the lathe is better) and small grinder (Dremal with an elipsiod grind point) . Just remove the lock nut and spacers expose about 15 mm of axle and put it the exposed axle into the chuck with the cone surface facing out ( turn at lower speed not to low). Then use the grind point(high speed)to clean up the pits following the conture of the cone. Once that is clear and smooth wrap some emery cloth around a small screw driver or an awl ( that will give you a taper) and spin the cone at high speed and polish going to finer grit . This actually works pretty well I've been doing this for many decades and always my personal wheels have this done. That way I can keep Shimano cones in Shimano hubs they hold up a long time in a properly adjusted hub. Just a tiny tic of play in the rear hub a little more in the front. Once the quick release skewer is tightened the axle compresses and the play will be gone. My 🙏

    14:17 you might want to put the thinnest layer of silicone gel on the inside contacting surface of these seals as they tend to rub and squeal in a very annoying way.
    Taking special care on rotor side, of course.

    After how many Kilometres do you make these type of maintenance with new grease?
    And after how many Kilometres do you change/replace the bottom bracket?

    • @NiceBikeService
      @NiceBikeService  10 месяцев назад

      The bottom bracket is replaced when it makes strange noises and cleaning no longer helps, or when there is play. This can happen after 500 km or 20,000 km, depending on the quality of the bracket itself, operating conditions, rider weight, etc.
      The same goes for the bushings: if the wheels spin well and the bushings do not play, it is better not to open them again.

      @@NiceBikeService I'm curious is it better to use bicycle specific grease for cup and cone bearings? I've been using Shell Gadus grease on my bikes for years and so far no problems, although Shell Gadus is more oriented to industrial applications and it's more viscous.

    • @NiceBikeService
      @NiceBikeService  10 месяцев назад

      A more viscous one will ruin the roll of the bike's wheels. And a more viscous one will leak out from under the hub dusters.
