to be fair, he could be cleared now, it's not like they have to announce it, they can sit on it for a while, that's how brilliant the booking is

If WWE were to do a raceway, Bristol Motor Speedway would be the best option, since it's inclosed like a sports stadium.

Drew's music was supposed to hit during the pinfall and distract the ref. Rollins gets an out by being robbed, Drew gets an out because of Punk and Preist retains. Thats why Priest was so pissed at the end when he won, the audio team acrewed him.
Yeah, I don't know how Jim and Brian could not come to this conclusion. It was the music guys fault and the Referee for not counting the pin.
Priest is a good champion but he's not WrestleMania main event champion yet. His status is more like Kane. His matches are good he just needs more time without the title... Randy Orton first title reign was nice but he wasn't there yet. 2007 reign he was there
If Priest were US/IC champ now, this would be a solid thing. I agree he's not there yet as world, but I can't ever say he doesn't have potential for it down the road.
I think the issue for Damien right now is that they're slow cooking a face turn, whereas it would have done him a much better service if he either dropped them instantly or just stayed a heel.
Yes, but the thing with Orton was this "youngest world champion" so he had time on his side , Priest is like over 40 and Randy with Batista where under HHH's umbrella in Evolution gimmick set up as top guys in years to come. If Priest would start in WWE system few years earlier and where put in this or The Shield type of project then today might been a different story.
By the way Priest had like Kane type of gimmick in ROH and was enhancement talent on TV for most of his carrer so i would say what he's doing now is still improvement. It's like Mahal thing, you need to be put on the spot before you get the spot.
Kane is a perfect comparison. Kane, having the title always made sense, but getting it off of him without hurting him would be an issue. I get what they wanted to do for priest here, but when he loses, they have to make it not hurt his character.
Priest is like what cm punk was in 2008 as world champion.
That pinfall botch completely shattered my suspension of disbelief; one of the most awkward feelings I've ever had watching wrestling.

I wouldn’t say that it was Priest’s fault by the looks of the match. I’d say that the sound guy was going to play Drew’s theme and have the music stop the count, and have Drew walk/run down to cash in. But, if it’s Damien’s fault, these things can and have happened. There’s always a whiff somewhere down the line, and it’s unfortunate that the whiff happened during a main event title run that is held by a secondary title player right now.
Priest is an ok champ, but honestly i cant wait till gunther wins at summerslam
I love Priest but he isn’t gonna be a good champ while he’s still with Judgement Day. He needs to lose, get through some main even caliber talent, and maybe give him another shot in a year or so.
Haha, yeah that's what everyone assumes will happen, to the point it might hurt Gunther's win if he does. I could see him getting screwed out of it somehow and having to earn his way back up to the title at Survivor Series or Royal Rumble and then win.
That said, what I think will happen is Finn Balor will turn on priest at SS and cost Priest the title.

I know it's a worst kept secret but honestly even if we know the out come, I would rather tune in for gunther as world champion rather than priest. I could see Gunther showing the title some class

Priest has been pretty average as champ. There is no reason he should beat Gunther. He is a much bigger star and way more convincing

But let's not forget that Dave would never acknowledge this and probably will put things like Mina Shirakawa x Toni Storm x Mariah May and Elite vs AEW over Drew vs Punk.
The fact that it was supposed to be Rollins instead of Drew and it is the best rivalry this year shows how good both Punk and Drew are. Love Punk!

Considering Punk's inability to put on a decent match without looking old/fragile and the eye candy involved, i'd put Mina vs. Toni over Drew x Punk any day.

As soon as the men's MITB opened the show I figured Drew was winning and cashing in, and the only question I had was if Punk came back here or chased Drew for the belt.

I’m not sold on Damien Priest. HHH and John Cena once said the title doesn’t make the man, the man makes the title and that’s not the case with Priest. He gets lukewarm reactions at best and I can’t wait until he drops the title.
True, it can work both ways. Some instances, like Bret Hart's first title win in 1992 propelled Hart into the main event picture, so the title made Bret. Whereas someone like HHH or the Undertaker makes the title important.
The title sometimes can make the man prominent but not in this case
The world title despite their best efforts feels like a belt people want but so far the holders have been lackluster
A transitional champion at best.
The botch made both Seth and Damien look like chumps, and revoking the stipulation of DP about "Seth never challenging for the title" night on RAW made zero sense after the botch pinfall, Seth instead of getting furious with Referer diverting his focus on Punk made it more anti-climactic. DP not appearing on the ring was a wise choice because fans would have chanted "You got Pin".
Fans are going to remember the botch for a long time, the only to correct this was to create an angle out of this botch which WWE didn't do, now they will have to make Gunther win strap, and make Balor turn on him in SS. That way the fans attention from the botch can be diverted.
The Stone Cold comparison doesn't work here because of the entire run with Kurt Angle.
But that didn’t happen during his height of his career. That was later on after the Austin 3:16. Prime Austin would have never. But older Austin who was wrestling less. That was the era where Austin was trying to get the Undertaker to break

"Can you imagine Stone Cold thinking someone is cute and funny?" Actually, Corny, I can. Austin became friends with Foley because he was a goofy funny guy so Austin tolerated him and they became tag champs. Corny was in the creative team at that point, he helped book it, even.
Not to mention when they killed WWE for awhile when he started kissing Vince's ass and became a joke
@@josephmiles3408 I hate that era of Austin. Some of it is genuinely funny, but I can't stand to watch my beloved Texas Rattlesnake humiliate himself like that. He still was funny as a face, he didn't need to become a complete joke.
@@chuckles9767 He shook his hand after they won the belts and handed him his belt personally. That's a huge deal for the lone wolf we had seen up to that point. Then, when Dude Love turns heel and Mr. McMahon brings dancing strippers to cheer him up, Austin laughs at both of them. This is because he broke character and laughed IRL, but I think it also adds a new dimension to the already existing character. And yes, he was annoyed by Mankind, but he also puts him over as a tough sob on commentary even when he was a heel. Then, he also famously screwed Rocky and Vince by making Mankind win the championship. Foley is one of the few wrestlers who actually kinda befriended the antisocial Stone Cold.
I was thinking the same thing. That was Stone Cold and Dude Love's whole thing.
R Truth comedy character doesn't parallel the Mankind character.
I feel the storyline with Damian Priest is he is trying his best to be a strong Champion but he always comes out looking weak it is going to be interesting what they're going to do with him at SummerSlam
I've heard conflicting things. I've heard the sound guy missed his cue and was late in Drews entrance distracting Seth, I've also heard Priest had his bell rung during the suplex spots and forgot/didnt know he had to kick out. Its a shame because whatever happened was just an accident and it took the shine off of what was an incredible story.
yea im pretty sure it had to be the sound guy not playing Drews music. because thatd do too much for the storylines to not be the case - Seths count would get interrupted by Drew, so hes mad at him And mad at Punk for later intervining, setting up the Three Way where Seth would be angry at Both, not just at Punk. and with Damian the Judgement Day could be angry at him saying "You wouldve lost if Drews music didnt hit, youre a weak leader" and you could set up a feud there too. So way too many things make sense if the Music hits during the pinfall, that imo its impossible for this to not be the outcome they wanted.
Go watch the suplex when Priest hits the mat in slow mo. It looks like his head bounced off the mat, maybe driven or trapped under Seth's leg. Not blaming Seth by any means, shit happens. I think he got KO and was seeing stars.
They already said Drew's music hitting wouldn't stop a pinfall count though.

Preist has been a dissapointment. He's fine with promo's in the back but in front of a crowd he's a block of wood. He' s very good overall but he just doesn't have another level too him i.e. serviceable does not make you a main event top guy. He's a career upper mid card guy now ( nothing wrong with that)
Yeah, if they're turning him babyface, which they are, he needs to get fired up and pissed off. He can easily pull of the @$$ kicker look and actions, just back it up with a short fiery promo.

They could have easily played this off and have it come out as Finn Balor paid off the referee instead of physically interfering… could forward the rift between Judgement Day members. Instead of admitting it was a shit pile.
I figured priest was knocked silly during the move. He looked out of it afterwards. After the ref stopped mid count Priest just kinda layed there looking dazed. It seemed like he even did that thing where you wiggle your fingers to see if you have movement.

A feud with Finn Balor sounds good to me
Balor feud would have better last year, and DP title reign would have worked last year but HHH booking Seth as superman and not letting DP cash in last year was a bad call, Priest is now overshadowed by countless superstars. Balor vs Priest will still work but it won't get much attention but still it would make some noise.
Priest is in a weird position right now, where hes not a big enough star for the world belt but it also feels like hes too big of a star to be a midcard belt holder
I kinda agree, he's just such a strange vibe to me. He doesn't fit, like, anywhere, not in the midcard nor the main event like you said. And I can't get behind him either as a heel or a face. Maybe it's just me, but I've never felt this confused about a wrestler.
I feel like botch may have undercut him a little bit, like to me this match was all about validating his reign cause he never beat Seth, it's just kinda frustrating

Damian Priest is basically going through what CM Punk went through in 2008 after cashing in to win the WHC. His reign was overshadowed by one of the greatest feuds ever, Chris Jericho vs. HBK.

I’m a fan of Priest but he’s been booked poorly. He wasn’t over at World Championship level when he cashed in to win the title. If he was going to be THE guy, he needed some good matches & decisive victories to be a convincing World Champion.
Instead, Jay Uso had him beat in his first PPV as champ & McDonagh saved him. Drew had him beat in Glasgow in a match the featured a huge botch & Punk saved him. Seth had him beat (in another huge botch) & another Punk run in saved him.
The title has to go to Gunther next month.
How are they talking so much crap about Priest not kicking out at the 2 when he was knocked out and dazed from Seth's knee to the head then the reverse slam on his back.

i think the problem is you have Priest around 3 MEGA STARS. Priest is the smallest person there star power wise. If it was just priest and one of them it may be different. They gotta let priest have some breathing room and let him become a star

Priest is sloppy. His razors edge is sloppy. Punches kicks are sloppy. For a 6'6" guy He gets taken off his feet way too often

Making this a triple threat match feels really anticlimactic after we just saw a ton of them in the MiTB qualifiers.
His aura is an issue and an example is that botch with the pin... He should of kicked out (if not story related). He instinct was to follow the script rather than kick out. He moves his hands in disappointment…
First the rope issue in Scotland, then the delay for Drew to come in.. he needs to take the ball as he will never have another reign after this.
The importance of his reign from the higher ups were shown the following night. All they had to have had happened is Finn paying off the ref, or Damien talking to the ref and making it look planned.
Maybe Finn didn’t have faith in him winning, so paid off the ref?. Either way they needed to put a stamp on that spot because it wasn’t ya average count mistake… Damien then reacts with frustration! Lol..
But yeah, he feels very scripted as a champion. I just can’t explain but he gives off the energy, this lack of confidence in himself/aura/freedom in his character, especially on the mic…

I disagree with their take on Priest not being a world champion yet. Besides, he doesn't have to be like the champions before him, nor to distance himself from his crew(who helped get him there to begin with), to be a legitimate champion🤷🏿♂️. However, for some reason he didn't kick out, which put a damper on the match. However, I agree with Jim regarding the killing of the superplex that Seth keeps doing, it irks me every time I see the spot😑👎🏿

This match was so weird to watch. Completely lack of any kind of psychology. Like Jim said “the zero to hero” shit happened way too much. Idk if they just ain’t teaching the levels of selling anymore or what. And don’t even get me started on whatever the fuck happen with the blown count/cash in. Jesus Christ. Ref counts to three, signaled two to the bell man, house lights come on and it’s like wtf is going on hahaha
if priest was on his own and still doing the archer of infamy stuff he would look like a champion. the judgement day was D.O.A for him. and if you know the match isnt over then you have to kick out even if the music hit at the right time.
Punk -Drew is already legendary as the best feud in wrestling in years, decades if we're talking WWE and they haven't even had a match yet. This is old school at its finest.
And Props to Cole for that shot were he's popping like a teenie bopper, and a line he delivered that should have been timed and executed better as it got lost ("Holy Sh&t, it's CM Punk!"), and could be used as one of their modern day version of JR's quotes.
Punk and Drew is one of the greatest feuds of this generation and they haven't even had a match. Between the banter and the one-upping each other, this has been great. When they finally do lock up the arena will go insane.

I still maintain that it is a stupid premise for Seth to be mad. He could have been in the ring to take advantage of Punk's interference. Get mad at the ref for screwing you over? In kayfabe, Seth simply was not where he needed to be when Drew went down. On RAW, I would've had Punk say, "I'm sorry you feel I cost you the belt. But the better man was ready in the ring to take advantage of whatever consequences were coming Drew's way." Total dick apology, so Seth can still go around whining, and it helps put over Damien Priest a little.
We all saw Seth won the match clean. What a terrible botch.
Just terrible booking. Drew goes through a grueling ladder match and then is suddenly healed up enough to use the money in the bank later that night? Drew wins, it exposes the business as fake, if he loses he is the biggest idiot on the roster. Thankfully, they sacrificed Drew for an angle that will never end.
And him cashing in so that punk interfering makes sense is stupid what kind of mitb winner would cash in until they know for sure they have the title won already they’re being biased here.

Unlike MJF, Damien isn't bad enough to be a heel, unlike Cody, isn't good enough to be a face, and doesn't have anything interesting to say, unlike Punk or Drew. He just looks the part, wrestlers decent, and has some bass in his voice. But his booking and his own lack of instincts aren't helping him. He's really guilty of one of my complaints of modern wrestling, "the cool heel".

I never really had high expectations for Priest or anybody else who became world champion with the MITB contract. I'm not saying Priest can never be world champion material or can't ever be a main event talent, but ppl who become world champion via MITB typically suffers through a weak first reign. Iyo Sky was one of the very rare exceptions.
1:44 actually he put up with Mick Foley and Kurt Angle. The problem wasn't R Truth the problem was there was too much going on to put R Truth silliness in the middle of. Because all those components complicated the payoff. What should have been a "oh no how could you!" Heel making Moment for Damien, was milked too long with side quests from the wwe dark order. So when it finally happened, nobody cared cause it was long overdue by that point.
Priest is a decent mid-card guy. He did great when tagging with bad bunny.
Working with bunny made him more thrustworthy for a company as in ring worker for sure. After that he started working matches with guys like Edge,Cody, Rollins on air and they even let him lead a singles match with bunny so there must be something to it.
Having Drew winning the Money in the bank match to only have him cashing in to further his storyline with punk is stupid and a huge waste of the money in the bank briefcase
The briefcase is played out and this gives the men a break from it for a year while dumping gasoline on Drew vs. Punk (vs. Seth)
