The concert performance at Montreux for the 1974 set (disc 2) was recorded on June 30, 1974. One of the songs played was "Bulbs", which was released as the single on the album Veedon Fleece. Three of the songs, "Twilight Zone", "Foggy Mountain Top" and "Naked in the Jungle", would not be officially released by Morrison until his 1998 compilation of outtakes, The Philosopher's Stone. Three others, "I Like It Like That", "Swiss Cheese" and "Heathrow Shuffle" were never officially released except on this DVD. All of the songs, except for "Street Choir", were unfamiliar to the audience, who were expecting his more recognizable songs and according to Clinton Heylin, in Montreux "a familiar conflict arose between his own thirst for spontaneity and an audience's preference for being eased into any new musical progression." Less than a year later, Morrison would say that as soon as "you are committed to a series of concerts you lose all spontaneity. It's not jazz any more. The reason I first got into music and the reason I was then doing it were conflicting. It was such a paradox." During the concert but not shown on the DVD, Morrison angrily confronted a woman heckler who said he didn't know how to play the blues Morrison's stripped-down band was assembled when he arrived at Montreux, with the help of festival manager Claude Nobs. Drummer Dallas Taylor from Crosby, Stills and Nash, British keyboardist Pete Wingfield and Jerome Rimson, bass player from Detroit, Michigan rounded out the quartet, with Morrison contributing vocals, saxophone, guitar and harmonica. It was a lean band without electric guitar, horns or strings Видеоклипы
What a superb song..bass, drums and keyboard all sound totally perfect as if they’d played this song a hundred times.
Just love that he strolls off before it finishes..just wants to sing, not bothered with receiving the applause
Dallas Taylor, one of the many overlooked musicians of his era. One of the pioneers of the Folk-Rock laid back drumming of CSN & other bands.
Vans Lyrics and Soul like Arthur Rimbaud!
Ridiculously mesmerizing.
Yes it is.
Turn it up, turn up your radio ...so you know it's got Van's soul ....!
This was brave he turned up without a band, Dallas Taylor and Jerome rimsom plus Peter van hook did him proud.
Thank you I was trying to find out who is the bass player in this beautiful song by the greatest ever Sir Van Morrison
Jerome Rimson 🤗♥️
Jerome has lived in Ireland for years - still keeps in touch with Van - gives a good interview
I’d call it a pretty good band there.
Didn’t Van find bass player Rinsom in Detroit just before leaving for this Montreux Music Festival recording? Every musician in this foursome is elite. Love piano player too.
Van Morrison's music hits me so deep in my heart...I actually cry listening to his albums
Yeah he has it alright.
your not alone
Don't you know it!
I think we all do
It’s the magnificent way he delivers; it’s not simply melody and lyrics but how he sings. I mean, already love his voice and then he does as only he can. My words here fail me but I’m sure someone here will understand what I’m saying. Saw him live in ‘74.
The man can sing, the man can write fantastic songs. that’s why he is Van the Man
And he's a multi-talented musician as well!! Van the man!
A musical genius for over five decades......
or more
Seven decades

this song gets better every time I listen to it
The sign of a great song!
Trueeeee that !!!!
I agree. It’s magnetic! Lovely ❤️
Can't get enough of this! I can keep watching this again and again for hours
Amazing every time
This is where it started for me. And in 2021 I'm still here.
As others have name checked drummer Dallas Taylor and bass player Jerome Rimson, I might as well mention Pete Wingfield (of "18 With A Bullet" fame)...............
I bought my first Van album with my paper route money when I was 13 in 1978.Its Too Late to Stop Now.Been a huge fan ever since. This song still gives me chills up my spine when i hear the begining.
I feel the same.
Wow!! I wish I had discovered when I was 13 - I was in my late 20’s (30years ago) ahh well - better late than never ❤
Much love and respect for Van Morrison. Never have I tired of his music. He gives us his all. Here’s to a long life Van. ❤️🎶
Van is a Master of being able to freeze, a most painful heartfelt piece of his life and BRING us so DEEPLY into that moment in time , that we are RIGHT there with him, you can almost feel the BEATS of his HEART, his BREATH, his SOUL,
as he relives it himself: " WHY did you leave AMERICA? " ( Left me so alone when I needed you most, )
He takes us,
with just one lyric ,
along side him,
in his sense of loss and deep broken heartedness ( "WHY DID YOU LET ME DOWN? ) his tone is always, so soft, asking for an answer, which he knows there is only one, even with his new crystal ball, he can't save her now, it's a moment in life that's.past, "
"I just can't take you back now" , it's just " NOT my job at all ") , when you come back, in better times, ( we know the writings on the wall.)
Such clarity of the moments we all have had " when we were drowning and were left, abandoned , til better times come round, NOW you're back? not even a mystic revelation (a brand new cystal ball) will ever make that right, so go, again, he says softly. " its just not my trouble at all". He takes us there, with him again, and again, and again. HE is a MASTER óf all of the beauty and painful experiences,. "THAT'S life, that's what the people say, you're riding high in April , shot down in May!
- Van Morrison/ Frank Sinatra
Why did you leave a Miracle
Isn’t this song about his relationship with his father?
Another Wonderful..YES to Van Morrison and his Musicans.
Blue-eyed soul personified 💙
I been listening to this music since I was 3 yrs old. (Sorry couldn’t resist). About 15 and lovin it!!! 😍
😂😂
Amazing. Singing with such a feeling. Great keyboard solo.
Dallas Taylor, what a great drummer. His contributions to CSNY's Deja Vu Album will be never forgotten.
What a magic and soul!
NO-ONE sings with as much soul as Van. Doesn't matter the words, nor the song. He just has to hit a certain note and he emotes more feeling than a gospel choir. Its quite amazing how he is able to connect with those who 'get' his thing. He is unique and a treasure.
You “get” it! An international treasure! I love Van Morrison. Love this song. It touches my soul! ❤️🎶
That’s very debatable
This was the first year I got into Van's music. I was 16 and all my friends were into heavy metal and I have been a fan ever since. Have seen hi play live multiple times in multiple countries ...what a legend !!!
Van and three fantastic musicians. What could be better?
Only Van Morrison is better than van Morrison!!!
And it was a hastily brought together band! How impressive is that?
Van the man !!!!
One of the most overlooked drummers in music, Dallas Taylor, plays here.
amen
Donald Romaniello He’s a great drummer, but if he’s playing with Van Morrison he’s far from being overlooked. He’s at the pinnacle of his profession! Van can get anyone he chooses and he chose Dallas Taylor!
He also played on 4 Way Street from Crosby Stills Nash and Young. Also a great album!
Yeah most don't know who Dallas is, he was known in the industry at the time ,had serious challenges with substance abuse, and spent his later years counseling others with same challenges Awesome Guy and Drummer !
I love Dallas's playing. I have been inspired my many drummers. Jim Capaldi among them, but Dallas merges with the music. He becomes integral and organic in such a passionate and loving way. I will miss him. I remember how engaged he helped CSN feel on their first two albums. Blew my mind. I have enjoyed drumming myself for over 55 years and I stop the world when Dallas is on the kit.
That Van the Man pumps out the perfect tones for a lifetime of soul kicking music that explodes deep in your vortex.
His voice and the music just hurts . but also feels so good at the same time. A true master.
Amen
Good description!
This song, performance is A+ Van is truly The Man!
mystical and magical and magnificent ...His Majesty, The MAN
Street choir
Sing me the song for the new day
Don't make it long
And remember to sing it the old way
Let it all out
Let your voice ring in the street, now
My fun
Shall be this one to complete, now
Why did you leave America?
Why did you let me down?
And now that things seem better off
Why do you come around?
You know I just can't see you, now
(See you now)
In a-my, in a-my, new world crystal ball
You know I just can't free you, now
(Free you now)
That's a-not my job at all
Move it on up
Move it on up by the window
Move it on
A magnificent flow
Lord, let it all grow in the moonglow
I'll take the wine
I'll take the wine with the gravy
I'll ask you the time
And just send the bill, to my baby
Why did you leave America?
Why did you let me down?
And now that things seem better off
Why do you come around?
You know I just can't see you, now
(See you now)
In a-my, in a-my, in a-my
New world crystal ball
You know I just can't free you, now
(Free you now)
That's a-not my job at all
Why did you leave America?
Why did you let me down?
And now that things seem better off
Why do you come around?
You know I just can't free you, now
(Free you now)
In a-my, in a-my, in a-my
New world crystal ball
You know, you know, you know
I just can't free you, now
(Free you now)
That's not my job at all
You know, you know, you know
I just can't free you, now
(Free you now)
That's not my job at all
You know, you know, you know
I just can't free you, now
(Free you now)
Listening on repeat. Beautiful. Loving Van Morrison ❤️
No many how many people i hear , watch i keep coming to saying Van is the best ever of all time. The bassist is incredible.
Second that on the bassist. The an is incredible...try to single out the bass lines with your ears. Insanely buttery smooth and total feeling.
Amen! I agree 100%. This is phenomenal! Much respect and admiration for everything he does.
Supposedly Van hired the bass player just before heading to play at Montreux music festival.
Drummer is solid too...tight rhythm section
3 excellent musicians.......and Van The Man.
I have to top it off: this is the smoothest, coolest, by the way, piece of song, I have ever heard from Van. Ultra cool.
This set is always my go to. What a simple and perfect foursome.
Best Bass player au niveau du soul!
Why did you leave america why did you let me down .... love his lyrics
This is magnificent.
This show is off the hook awesome.
Drums sound amazing
Heart rendering and Sublime Dear Van.....pure class and soul...
True 100%!
I love that bass player!
The bass intro is outstanding ( but too short )...😊
Back from the days when I first started listening to Van Morrison with "Astral Weeks" and "St. Dominic's Preview". Only started listening to his WIDE styles of music.. captivated by live performances/great musicians on youtube.. from a 4-piece here to an 'orchestra', and instrumentals like "Caledonia Soul Music" and "Scandinavia" (including a live version with him playing piano at Rockpalast Essen 1982)
1974 if you could peer to the very, very top of the universe there was Van Morrison
Love this song. It got measure and depth.
This really is one of Van's great songs. And he has quite a few good ones.
Hard to believe at this point in his career he was putting out 2 albums per year of stuff like this. Of course he talks about this as the tyranny of Warner Bros, and it was, but a lot of good stuff came out of it.
C Johnson I thought I was the only one who noticed how many great songs/albums Van the Man put out in succession. By 1974 he’d reached the top tear of musical superstar. The woman should have been flogged but I’m betting Van verbally flogged her as he’s been known to do. There’s audio video of someone requesting a certain song and Van tells him to shut his damn mouth. Love it
@@buddyskinner1633 What are you even talking about in the second part of your comment?
WB rushing Van to hastily just churn out music... And instead of a disastrous outcome, here comes the man and gifts the world with a collection of tunes, that are at the very least fine... and in many cases divine, making one literally cry, like this one. How did he even do that?
I have played this song Street choir over and over again. I cannot get enough of his sound Im moved in everyway. Thank you for uploading this song to RUclips it's beautiful.
Best version I've ever found.
of all his peers, van never lost his voice...as pure and clear as the days he began singing..i hear rumours that he has retired, hope not,but if it's true, thanks van for some of the best music i ever heard in my life
He certainly has not retired and has no plans to according to him, it's 2019 and he is on a massive tour, some places 3 nights in a row.
Great live version
Brilliant
MARVELLOUS MUSIC----SONGS AND PERFORMANCES FROM THE VERY GIFTED ARTIST/ MUSICIAN/ COMPOSER, VAN MORRISON. --- LOVE ❤️ EVELYN O'CONNOR
This song gives me hope for the human race.
There was an English pub band in the 70's called Street Choir...named with respect for this...
Van again blows me away. The lyric may have been inspired by a dispute with a record company, but it means so much more today.
He is magical!
Lyrically and musically perfect. The demise of soul ? Reflections of an earlier soul
I love Van Morisson he has a very special voice and beautiful music
This is so beautiful! Emotion in its purest state! Thank you very much for posting again.
very good video, his voice on his best moment. listen to the lion!!!
Interesting to hear Van singing with this stripped back band. And that he's making the best of the sound :)
Always !
in this vid, he seems to put it down so "by the way" and calculated and with ease. But when he belts out the words in the right tones, it rips you apart (if you have any little sense of feeling inside you of music).
Oh Man!
Stripped right back, but the voice, the phrasing and the space 💥
How great is this!
Yes how brilliant!
This was a boot entitled, "If You Don't Like It Go F*ck Yourself!", Van's response to the lady heckler ref above.
😂😂
master!
Then and before then (or Them), and now and even after now he is and will be just the best.
Van with an Ovation guitar here. Note the rounded back and headstock.
A melhor versão, show!!!
Yes!
That perfect 1 second backing vocal @ 5:55.
This version is unreal
Great band
Fabulous band
Jerome Rimson on bass ...
Nikki No Nose gotta the coolest bass man there is....surely.

Great.
Van the Man 2024AD
“If you don’t like it, go fuck yourself”, Van said to an audience member before launching into this Street Choir.
Van the Man has a spine. I get a kick out of his eccentricities. I just chuckle at some of his wit! I know he’s fun to be around! Lol. Love Van so much! His wit is readily revealed through his lyrics. 💚🎶🍀
I just love this song…I just can’t free you now, it’s not my job at all!

My Celtic 1st cousin Van looking a little like the great John Sebastian of The Lovin’ Spoonful here. Van the Belfast man with a 1000 brilliant songs and stories that he has continued to change around to many different styles and yes yet still they come out as brilliant songs. Is is it OK if I have the bass player, drummer and singing guitar in my band please
Let it all out ..
