Stell was originally set to perform three songs for the opening act: Adele's "All I Ask," "Defying Gravity," and his debut song, "Room." However, just a few hours before the show, during rehearsal, David Foster personally asked him to sing "All By Myself," with Stell having only one run-through with David as preparation.
