His daughter looked for years for the person that owned the rights to this song cause she wanted to record it and then she found out it was her dad such a awesome person
I got to play with him in I think it was 1973 when his entourage stopped into the truck stop where my country band was playing. I played 3 songs with him and got a photo too.
I'm an 80s metal head who enjoys anything from classic rock to some rap, new to old country music. Johnny Cash holds a special place in my heart. Love it!
Jim Soldi is from San Diego and is one of the finest lead guitarists around. I was fortunate to play for a few months with him in a church fellowship setting, a few years ago. I loved it. I also just love this song with Jim's lead. It brings tears to my eyes.
Repent and trust in Jesus. we deserve Hell for our sins. For example lying, lusing, saying God's name as a cuss word and stealing our just some examples of sin which we can all admit to doing at least one of those. For our sin we deserve death and Hell, but there is a way out. Repent anf trust in Jesus and you will be saved. Repentence is turning from sin. So repent and trust in Jesus. He will save you from Hell, and instead give you eternal life in Heaven. John 3:16 Romans 3:23❤😊❤❤
Saw Johnny Cash in Jackson Michigan at the state fair outside in a huge baseball stadium. Fourth row from the front with Carl Perkins, the statler brothers,Maybelle Carter two of her daughter's minus June Carter. Bob Wooten had replaced Luther Perkins. Johnny played a solid two hours nonstop. It was 1976 a boy named sue had just been recorded. I was coming back from battle creek Michigan saw a sign promoting the concert wheeled my new triumph Bonneville around and my wife and I bought tickets. Been a huge fan since forever, still have original vinyl listen to them all the time. RIP.🎵🎶🎵
Yup. I love classic country like this! I kind of stopped listening to the country radio stations, because now we've got snap/clap track songs everywhere.
i love this song...especially this particular performance...Cash is wonderful of course...but the guitarist does an amazing job too! And Cash even gives him props during the song!
This was on Ring Of Fire the first Johnny Cash LP I ever bought back in the 60's -I still have the Lp and the CD and I also rate Roseanne cash's tribute version of this song.
Solie"s picking was great. I agree. This is his best performance of "Flat Top Box". Simple and great. Picking was spot on. I know all of JC songs are great, this is just my favorite performance of this song.
I'm not familiar with solie, but I know Bob Wootton was his long time guitar player after original member Luther Perkins died in a house fire. Can anyone fill me in on what I'm missing here?
It's nice pickin, agreed, but then it isn't what any capable guitar player would think of as difficult in any way. Just nice, clean picking. And it sounds great!
I'm an 80's guy and I sing along with the 80's songs when they come up in the rotation on our muzak at work. Today (yes, the warehouse was open on the 4th of July) a coworker asked me if I liked Johnny Cash. I said of course, who doesn't. He asked me to sing a Johnny Cash song. I started singing this. He and three other people said I fucking nailed it. Occasionally, I think I'm a pretty good singer. Like when there's Rock Band at a party and I'm the one who sings when we beat the hard songs.
I've been a fan of Johnny Cash since the early 50s when country music was truly country. There will never be another man like Johnny Cash - he lived the songs he wrote and sung. RIP Johnny - you live on in many, many hearts. Love this song.
These country and western singers were smiley people, always smiling and seemed so happy, I wish I could have spent some time with them, I try to be a smiley person, but I’m not all the time.
This is one of my favorite country songs, no matter who sings it, Johnny or Rosanne, or even the version where father and daughter sing this song together, its just a great song. And another thing about great artist like Johnny Cash, he was a humble man, no one else introduced himself when he came on stage, Saying "Hi I'm Johnny Cash" no one else did that but Johnny even tho he didn't need and introduction, and he and the other greats would introduce their band members when they had solos.
What is a Tennesse Flat Top Box Guitar? I cannot find an explanation in Google Is it a cigar box? Is it a type of manufacturing thingy Does it have F-Slots or a hole?? Is it electric or Akoustic?? Can you please tell?? Pieter:)
Saw Johnny Cash and Johnny Horton in Calgary Alberta Canada about 1957 and still have the autographs signed on the tickets. Some things you never forget. Amazed how many people don't understand.
Johnny Cash was an absolute legend in the Country Music field and I miss his style . Today's country music is nothing like these artist of the 50's,60's, 70's and 80's. Waylon, Merle, Willie, and so many others.
We are blessed in San Diego as Jim Soldi continues to share his guitar prowess with us. He is gifted and I appreciate his expertise everytime I hear him play.
Jeff, You are so right. I'm in San Diego too and have had the joy of playing a few times with him in a church, with Barry leading on Keys, besides just hearing him play in his top country band.
I saw him in Carbondale, Illinois about 1971 or 72. Carl Perkins opened with Blue Suede Shoes, there was the Tennessee 3, The Statlers, Momma Maybelle and the Carter sisters, and who am I forgetting? The show ended with everybody on stage, doing will the Circle, Be Unbroken.
I saw him 3 different times. 1st was at what was called 'Grand ol Opry West' in Sacramento in the late 50s with him & about a dozen other country stars on in 1 night, the 2nd time was at the San Juaquen County Fair in Stockton with his wife June & then 1 time in Vegas as well.
R.I.P to a great man. Miss him and his musical style . Fortunately we have his memory and his albums to remind us of what Country music was when we were growing up .
Cash was my favorite when I was younger never missed any show that was held here in Edmonton at the old gardens tickets were reasonable then great music then
Johnny Cash is my al time favourite singer song writer an i would say there isnt 1 song of his i could say i disliked! he was the reason i started playin guitar he sung in ireland a few times its jus a pitty i was born to late an missed it! RIP John & june u wil live forever in are hearts
True that, however, his lovely daughter Roseanne Cash carries on his legacy very nicely. Check out her version of this very song, if you have any doubts, and her lovely voice truly does this great Johnny Cash song justice.
The best; one of my favorite Cash songs sung by the great Rosanne with Randy Scruggs and her husband playing guitar. It was one helluva show with the Mavericks as back up band.
I'll drink to that!!! I'm 60 years old, and I love nothing better than listening to Johhny Cash, Hank Williams, Stonewall Jackson, and Red Sovine, as well as My Anderson, and Crystal Gale.
I've gone from a recording in the fifties to two live videos from the '70s and now I'm watching a video from the '80s. And Johnny sounded so fucking good in every one
That's why Johnny's a great guy, he was always humble. Gives credit to Jim Soldi there on the guitar, great guitar playing. The song is a peak into the life of an entertainer. Guy who loves what he's doing. So important in life. The line in the song about girls selling their jewelry just so they could watch their favorite musician in concert is priceless. "All the girls..from 9 to 90..." that's a lyric. The song tells a story, makes you want to listen and has a great melody. Easily one of my favorite Cash songs. Such simplicity, good ole country nature to it and the live performance here is a gem. There is something magical that happens when listening to Cash.
I'm so grateful to my grandmother, may she rest in peace, for instilling a love for Johnny Cash in me. She sang us all his songs and the old bat could NOT carry a tune but we loved it anyway. She LOVED her some Johnny Cash.
I never got to meet him but he played at a bar family members owned and my mom and dad got to meet and talk to him. My mom has a great pic of her and a friend standing there with John. But at least i got to see him in concert and listen to the records.I never though since i was born in 1960 that he would be gone before i died! I thought him and Waylon and George. would always be here helping us through all of lifes BS with their music. RIP John I love you man! Thanks for the autographed picture you sent me when i was a little kid.
That guitar solo is just KILLER!!!!
Sadly I'm replying 5 years later but still so right
Its Jim Soldi!!!
I've been following Jim Soldi for 25+ years. With Eve Selis, and now, Back to the Garden. Sometimes with Highland Way. Quite a gifted musician.
He is fascinating - with his presentation

My favorite version of this song. The guitar playing is fabulous.
I have been on a Johnny music spree for the last 2 hrs on youtube and cannot get enough of it.
Those who disliked this music-video have no soul, nor spirit to then haunt the great music halls of the past.

You could always tell a Cash song was coming on the radio because he had that distinct back beat and heavy rhythm guitar! Awesome!
I’m ten and I wish that I could have been alive when country music was this good.
Yup. I love classic country like this! I kind of stopped listening to the country radio stations, because now we've got snap/clap track songs everywhere.
My friend, I am not even a country music fan.....except for Johnny Cash. You're right, nothing else matches this guy.
How I wish I could play like that, brilliant just brilliant 🇬🇧🇺🇸
This is simple.
Just practice a lot and you will eventually be able to play this and more.

Jim Soldi famous guitarist who played with Johnny Cash for years
I love this song and I am going to learn how play this song
Johnny shows his true sincerity by referring credit where it is due.
I listen to his songs every day. I got to backstage with him in Bakersfield Calif. what a guy.
I love how he just talks during solos

Yes I’m just 14 today but Johnny cash is my favorite country singer I don’t really care for the new pop country
