    This install and review of the scx24 Carbon Fiber chassis was requested by (JP) in a video comment, I decided to try them out and im glad I did, these might not be the most important upgrade to do on your mini crawler but they are pretty cool and im glad I got them, hope you enjoy the video and dont forget to post your pics, projects and more on the UpperLeftSubmissions reddit page for tomorrows video review!

    I just purchased an Injora - Axial - AX24 XC-1 Carbon Fiber Chassis Side Rail Kit for my friends son, & he will soon be getting his crawler on his birthday coming soon in October. The carbon fiber side rails in your kit are certainly made of real carbon fiber, there is many different grades just like steel.

    I bought a c10 from ebay with carbon fiber rails. Got a great deal because the seller upgraded not only the rails but also did a barrage motor, emax servo, carrisma shocks, brass 10t pinion with Mickey Thompson tires for 135 bucks! That little shock nut I nearly lost when I changed shocks!

    I bought that same set and also the the frame set from DSFabworx. If you want to do the battery relocation the eBay CF chassis is better suited. Unless you’re willing to do some chopping to the DSF chassis.

    First off I haven't seen any other comments but second is that if its real carbon fiber it is suppost to be as strong as metal can be but still lighter

  • @notreallydaedalus

    Easiest way I know to confirm real carbon fiber (assuming the weight and rigidity feel right) is to check conductivity. CF is fairly electrically conductive. Of course the resin binder is not, so you have to test the cut edges. Take a multimeter on continuity mode and stick the probe in opposite ends, preferably along the same bundle of strands. If it beeps, it's CF. Or metal, but if it was metal you'd probably already know it's not CF :).
    Incidentally, that DOES look like real CF to me. IIf you're used to molded CF, CNC-routed plate CF looks a little different. It's often not as glossy, but you get the same sheen you show in the light. Also, it's cheap enough that if you're going to go to the trouble of CNC-routing something instead of injection molding, you might as well use the real thing. Last time I priced it, 2mm thick CF sheets shipped from China were cheaper than 2mm styrene in my LHS.

    The material is graphite most likely and also 4:08 doesn't matter which way it was threaded, would still screw in. u can try with a metal threaded piece just to be sure

    Don't forget to dremel down the motor shaft a little or it will be against the transmission case. You can drill a hole I suppose but that would give moisture another way in

      You betcha! I installed 1 on my monster Betty because I couldn't find a stock motor to save my life at the time. No regrets. Ordered 2 more for my nephews "when" they burn them up

  • @jpyt7182

    Thanks sir lol. So with the motor situation i belive no matter what brand you'll have to take off that part of the battery tray and theres a couple options for the part the pinion gear goes on. Either trim down the rod or drill a hole throw the part where the gears sit to make space for the pin/ rod whatever it's called lol and you'll have to mod the stock motor plate or get a a scx24 barrage motor plate. Oh and either reverse the 2 wires on the motor cause forward is actually reverse but if you have the furitek you can just reverse it in the app. I hope I made sense lol. Everything I said is what I learned from youtube videos. Your probably right about that cf chassis. The TGH carbon fiber was talking about costs $20 plus shipping. Youd have to google it. The first one I ordered was a hyperlite cf chassis I found on Ebay and was $36 total on Ebay but never showed up so I had to get a refund. Than I found out about the TGH brand from a youtuber. This is alot lol

    • @UpperLeftRC
      @UpperLeftRC  3 года назад +1

      Haha that was a lot but as far as the chassis goes, I saw a lot of different options when I looked on ebay and I went with this set because it was cheap and had really good reviews so I don’t know if the $20-$30 are needed or worth it if this $8 is so good. As far as the motor info goes, I know the barrage motor needs to have the wires reversed because of the back and forth polarity but I think the hobby plus engine functions the right way, could be wrong but also the remote for the scx24 has a “reverse” switch that will change the forwards and backwards controls so that you don’t need to change the wires 😄👍🏻

      @@UpperLeftRC yeah lol I get what you mean about the chassis lol it is a little pricey. I was mostly looking for the 12g weight reduction, lower cg etc. That it claims. You could be right about the motor I havent looked into powerhobby one. That would be pretty cool if the powerhobby one is the right way. If it is I might have to grab one. I do have powerhobby brass knuckles on mine lol. I dont know remember for sure if the TGH one claims 12g weight reduction. But the hyperlite one on ebay I tried to get initially did.

    Awesome video. I would use some blue thread locker on those tiny nuts, if one were to loosen up and fall off it would be lost forever. Solder off the wires from a burnt up motor and put them on the hobbyplus motor. If you move the esc to the rear, you'll have to extend the battery wires.
    Also, your rock crawler course would do good with more rocks less dirt lol

    Carbon fiber isn’t as big of a deal as most folks think. These are likely real carbon fiber. Carbon fiber in this form is just carbon cloth and resin. The type of resin and the method of on in if and curing the two together is the difference. Is it cured while under pressure from weight, vacuum or a double vacuum de-bull process. That’s the difference in really good strong carbon fiber and cheap stuff. I hope that helps.

    • @UpperLeftRC
      @UpperLeftRC  2 года назад

      The grooves go on the inside similar to the C channel chassis design of the stock rails, the components such as the base plate or the battery tray or even the ESC plate have “arms” that slide into the pre drilled channels to secure them in place while screwing them down

  • @mase51_52
    @mase51_52 3 года назад +1

    The new motor you have will likely be reversed like the one i got. Its reversed because the stock ewc sends a reverse input to the motor.

    • @UpperLeftRC
      @UpperLeftRC  3 года назад

      Yeah I’ve seen people needing to swap the wires on the motors but also the scx24 remote has a switch to reverse the throttle controls so I should be able to install it and hit that switch without needing to detach and attach the wires, I dk though we will find out soon lol

    • @DoubleADay
      @DoubleADay 3 года назад +1

      The reverse switch is for the steering. All you have to do is carefully pry with a hobby knife and the pins slide right out and then swap them around
