It’s amazing how we just find lost media in the most random places. Even when people say “I saw this film once on TV/song on the radio and never saw it again” and then this leads to a lost thing being discovered unexpectedly.
There was a very long and dedicated search effort with this one, but it always ends up being something relatively straightforward in the end! Amazing stuff.
I'm still in shock it's been found. Absolutely incredible. Great video!
Honestly never expected it after so long, glad you enjoyed the video!
Cracking news! I'd seen a video about this song probably like 4 years ago, great to hear it was found and the band is still in touch (and alive)!
Yes I remember watching videos covering it around the same time, definitely the best ending there could've been!
i do find it mad that the two most mysterious lost songs on the internet have been found within months of each other. thankfully this one wasn't found in a pornography film like ulterior motives.
It is! I'm glad this one has a much nicer ending 😂
Oh I’m glad you’re covering this! I’m 80% sure this is the band but we still haven’t received the tape that includes the original demo, the one that Darius heard on the radio, the one he taped that is the most famous version. They released a tape though that seemed very similar but had slightly upgraded instrumentation.
I'm inclined to believe it 100% at this point, as the band have now registered ownership of the song, along with the old recordings, plus they've just performed it live on radio! It'll be interesting to see more details come out over time though...
There were copies of their tape sold on Discogs for 5-8€ and it was there the whole time. It's hard to think they did this after the song was discovered. Too much proof, it's impossible to fake.
Idk what it is, but there's something slightly spooky about just how, well, "mysterious" this song is, your mate was right
Great video!
There definitely was when we had no idea where it came from, it felt as though it didn't belong and yet was strangely familiar. Now it's found, hopefully people can appreciate the song for what it is, cheers!
My dad literally just told me! I had showed him the song like three years ago, I come home and he shows me a news article saying who made it and that it was found! He knew how excited I'd be! My god, what a year, what a journey to finally find it, and I'm so excited for "Subways of your Mind 2.0"!
Great to see so many people happy that it's been found, fantastic stuff!
Must be wild to go around, living life, totally unaware that a corner of the internet is obsessed with you for some reason, and then suddenly boom! I'd be so tickled.
Well and truly tickled 😂
I was five years old in 1983 when this song was recorded. Crazy to think all those years of memories since then, this song has existed. I only heard about it sometime last year, and I'm so pleased that this has been solved. What a great story, and yes wholesome, of this resolve. Great short video explaining all this breakdown.
Yes it's.a crazy yet really wholesome story, glad to hear you enjoyed the video!
I've never heard about this song before, really cool to learn about this. Really different to your recent content too.
Also I can't not say this, but this 40 year old song that's dominated the Internet and the band haven't made anything from it, I think Fex is a fitting name for them given what it sounds like
Glad I could introduce you to it and happy to shake things up a bit! From what I've heard, the band members in FEX plan to meet up and record a new version of the song to be released commercially, which should earn them some cash!
@SomeBoiOnline I hope they do, they've probably earned something after 40 years of secret fame
Wow! I’ve been waiting for this one to be found lokey banger
*like the wind* 😂
What a Miracle
Definitely, admittedly I'd have given up after 17 years 😅
@@SomeBoiOnline I was 10 when it first came on the Internet I’m now 27 so you do the math lol
Wow, i've been sort of following this for a while, just a few days ago I checked to see if there was any update. Very surprised to see it's been found!
Yes I'd check in on the search every so often, but honestly didn't expect it to be found, so pleasantly surprised too!
I didn't know any of this! Or, more likely, I've forgotten everything about it. 😂 Great that the band has been found. It's nice when you hear stories like this, reminding us that the Internet can be used for good, given how much bad comes out of it.
Absolutely, a welcome change of pace!
No way, I can't believe it was finally found! I am glad to know the band is all still alive and in-touch, I did think maybe they had passed which would have certainly added a rather sad tone to things. I am glad they know their music is remembered, all this years on.
It's definitely the best part of all this, them finally getting recognition after so many years.
This is a perfect example of "even if utou don't think you'll have a fanbase, still release it. You might have a fanbase 40 years later".
My mom insists that she heard the song when she lived in California in the 80's. She's sure it was a popular song at a dance hall she used to go to in highschool and she was sure it also played on either MTV or VH1. I'm not sure though, with synth music being so popular in the 80's and the familiarity (I'm 36 and when I heard the song for the first time a few years ago, I thought I heard it before too). I'm not sure if my mom is telling the truth or misremembering.
It's such a unique set of circumstances, I suppose we'll never know if it has been heard by others or not. Apparently the band weren't even aware it'd been broadcast on the radio until now.
awesome keep up the good work mate ^^
Also if you see someone named Hiro claiming it’s not solved despite confirmation by Lydia and she is wrong.
Thank you, means a lot! I can tell the whole thing is genuine at this point, so not to worry!
Well I must say this is splendidly grand ❤
It certainly is, thanks for the support!
@ no problem governor ✅
Very nicely covered in this video.👍
Thanks, glad you liked it!
wow, i'm in video with VOD that i uploaded 6:00 XD
Haha that's great, I'm glad you dropped it in!
Some minor updates and corrections:
1) The band members aren't tech-illiterate old cranks. The keyboarder even has his own RUclips channel! He explained it pretty well in an interview. Basically, it boils down to a combination of several factors: We all live in our own internet bubbles. Things we might think of as a big deal often don't even reach the bubbles which other people live in. Think of it this way: You were a member of an obscure band that disbanded 40 years ago. What are the chances that "this mysterious song whose title and performing artist are unknown" will ever pop up on your radar?
2) The band members weren't strictly keeping up with each other on a regular basis. On the one hand, they apparently didn't split up on bad terms, and at least three of them knew how to contact each other easily as soon as they found out about the whole thing, but on the other hand, it's been a while since any of them had met each other in person, and it's been decades since they were all in the same room together.
3) They had completely lost contact with their old drummer. Fortunately, it turns out that he, too, is still alive and well, still owns his old drumset, and immediately got in touch with the radio station once he read about their reunion in the local news. On top of that, he was able to provide several vintage photos of the band performing at a festival, giving their newfound fanbase even more things to pour over.
Quite honestly, this story has gotten the most positive outcome possible.
