I like to use milk rather than water for my country gravy with sausage. You might even use dry milk in the country gravy mix then add water when making it. Just a thought.

It wouldn't work well adding it to the mix because you don't add the milk in with the fat and flour when making the roux. You could use dried milk mixed in with your water to make it a richer tasting gravy though.

These mixes are great. Real time savers. Beef gravy always looks a little anemic to me. I like it to be brown, so I add a little Kitchen Bouquet till I get the color I want. I use milk when making my gravy to make it richer tasting. I also cook the roux a little to keep it from tasting pasty. I have had many compliments on my gravy over the years. Thanks for sharing the recipes.

Also to get a dark brown beef gravy, cook the roux until it gets dark. The other thing I learned was use, weightwise, the same amount of fat and flour.

OMG that is so easy, thanks for the video. I always thought making Country Gravy was so hard and never tried it. I'm going to make the mix today and use it for sausage and biscuits. I will eventually make the chicken and beef gravy mixes at some time. I was gifted 20ea 2lb packages of Beef and Chicken pre-mixes (Knorr) so I wont be needing the chicken or beef anytime soon. But now that I know it is so easy I will be making in the future. Thank you so much for the video.

She refuses to eat white gravy. Well, she doesn't eat much of anything now. It's always a challenge but white gravy is a non-starter. Me...if its gravy and it pours, I'll put it on the potatoes. Hahaha!

Thank you The old fashioned way of making gravy is to add flour to your left over meat pan juices and bits after a roast. You scrape the bottom of your roasting pan with a little water not too much then add a little flour at a time and mix and continue cooking and stirring until thickened. Mum used to do this all the time. Yum

I watched your video and started drooling, love gravy - BUT - I do not eat grains or bouillon (at least most of it is off of my diet). I love mushroom bacon with coconut flour, but it takes about 30 mins to make it and so for one - usually just give up and do not make it. So, I got in my cupboards and found, my coconut flour, dried mushrooms, dried onions and from Amazon, I had a choice of dried chicken bone broth, or veggies or mushroom broth - all dried. And, no black pepper for my tummy, so cayenne to give it some taste. This is almost a meal with a green and some garlic. NOW, I have to figure out how much of each - so my experimental personality has to take over and then I can jar some up and not just give up when I want it and do not want to take that much time TY TY TY!

U’re right, these gravy mixes don’t last long in our house either. The chicken gravy gets used a lot with home canned turkey. I call them HCSM (home canned skillet meals). In the case of turkey, i make the gravy, dump the canned turkey in & whatever veggies we’re in the mood for (fresh or canned) & add to the gravy & turkey. My husband has taken to calling this particular meal....”turkey slop”. 🤣🦃

Cook the flour and butter longer and you won't get the raw flour (paste) flavor. How long you cook depends on what color you want your gravy to be. Anywhere from white to brown to dark brown depends on how long you cook the mixture before adding liquid.

Leisa if you used bacon grease or some sausage chunks for the country gravy it will have a great flavor. There won't be any need to ad the salt. Thanks for these recipes. I'll be making some to have on hand as soon as I use up the pkgs of (yukky) gravy mixes I have on hand.

I love this! I believe gravy is actually a love language!!! And my family has been trying for years to teach me there are settings other than high on the stove! This seems to be my go-to channel for all things GOOD! Thank you!

Brilliant! I paused it to tell my son about the idea (before you mentioned Orrington Farms) and was so excited because I knew they made vegan versions so we could make gravy mixes too, and then imagine my surprise when I saw that was what you used! Just discovered your channel and loving it! Thanks for all the delicious recipes and knowledge you share.

Thanks for the gravy mixes. I can now make gluten a free gravy without paying $1.50 or so for a small packet.

You do realise that flour contains gluten?

Not if you use a gluten-free flour mix.

I use Bob's Red Mill gluten-free blend. Not sure exactly what's in it but it does have xanthum gum in it already. I've made sausage gravy with it and it was delicious.

I don't like salt and seldom add it. When someone ask, I advise them that's why we have shakers on the table. Don't forget that gravey taste good on a plain old finger or spoon.

If you have an Aldi, they have a peanut butter that is every bit as good as jiff or any other brand In my humble opinion. Try one you may like it. Oh thanks for all you vids, I have learned so much and now have a good years start on a food pantry of store bought and pressure canned items> than you so much

I am so glad I had found this video awhile back. I had wrote down the recipes for the gravy mix. I had ran out of the store bought chicken gravy packets, and had planned on making my own. I made up a batch of the homemade chicken gravy mix and used it for dinner. And I have never been very good at making homemade gravy, but imagine my surprise, when my guys went back for seconds on my chicken gravy. It felt so good that they actually ate it and seemed to have liked it.

Thank you so much Lisa, we eat a lot of country white gravy. Now we don’t have to eat all of those preservatives. Put over country fried steak, yum. Thank you again. ✝️💟

I was looking for how to freeze white gravy because it takes me a long time to make my favorite I call it milk gravy, gravy with water nauseates me. Much to my surprise, I find this awesome video. Thank you for taking the time to make the video, and show us a great way to cut the time in making gravy. Do you know where to buy dry bacon for the mix?

Suggest that when beef preparing gravy, add 1/4 - 1/3 tsp of Gravy Master or Kitchen Bouquet. Adds a depth of flavor and a beautiful deep color.
