The “ Wrong Right Way “ to use PTFE or Teflon tape with your fuel system.

  • I am most likely going to rub a lot of car guys the wrong way with this video, but I only speak from experience. I have never had a problem with PTFE / Teflon tape clogging anything in my fuel system ever. People always say not to use it, but my logical way of thinking leads me to believe they are just installing it incorrectly. Take this video for what it is worth, just remember all the guys with flooding carburetors or injectors always blame something besides themselves.

    I thought yellow was for gas pipe thread like co2, argon, natural gas. I didn't think it was rated for fuel. I may be wrong about that but I am pretty sure that was the case. Its more of a thread lubricant than a sealer anyways although it does have some minimal sealing properties. According to the website you can use rectorseal #5 with gasoline though.

    I used some of the yellow fuel resistant PTFE tape recently and the stuff literally turned to goo and ran down the side of the fitting and and the carburetor. Seems that fuel will dissolve this stuff no matter what the manufacturer says.

    May I ask you a questions: I ordered some straight AN to NPT Adapter Fittings and I am wondering that some have o-rings and other dont. What is the reason here. Do I have to use it with o-rings or a washer instead? My plan is to install them with loctite 577 only. Cheers

    I’m curious if I need the fuel rated Teflon on my sump install on my diesel truck. Not even sure if the yellow Teflon can work for diesel

    Do you tape the AN side too ?

      No it doesn't need anything.

  • @SvoBrianRobles

    Do you tape the AN aside too?

    • @tokslut
      @tokslut Месяц назад

      no need, the 37° taper is sealing good and is made to take apart over and over again without sealant and other shit.

    if you will use junk, why use a tread/connection that needs a sealer? Why just not go with an AN connection that is made to take a part a lot without checking an o-ring or use sealer? That what's the AN connection is made fore!
