this would have been before I realized they existed. I switched from pop to country in 1977--right in the middle of the Casey Kasem countdown. I soon discovered the Statlers and never looked back. they are the best.
I worked the Humanitarian/Compassionate reassignments desk during the Vietnam war. This song reminds me of those guys pleading to be reassigned or discharged to save their marriage or their girl back home from marrying their best friend. I feel so silly, tears stream down my face every time listening. I didn’t suffer a love lost but I sure talked to many who did. I never once saw the military show any compassion for reassignments. Not even for parents dying since the military demanded a timeframe for them to pass. Mostly guys from Kansas needed to bring in the wheat harvest in the fall got approved.
u r so right Bruce. All of us loved and lost at one time, some more than once. It is just the way things work. We never will know how it would have turned out had we actually stole the heart of the one who left us high and dry. You have to stop and think that for something to hurt as bad as a lost love can, it must have been REALLY good to make you hurt that bad. So we have to live with the wonderful part we did have. No going back or do-overs in love. Time goes on. I was there in 77.
sure do miss these guys. All their voices. Lews was great. Loved Jimmy too. Don I could listen to till the end of time. Phil has such an original voice and very pleasant. And then there is the other guy (LOL) what's his name? LOL. Yep the wonderful bass sound of Harold. Always so clear and great!!
You surely hit on the truth! I think that's why so many of us love Harold. His voice is clear and strong and so is his articulation. You can actually understand what he sings! Not always true with some bass voices. And then to top it off, he just has a winning way about him.
How can you not love their vocals? If maybe someone was tone-deaf or hated music for some reason. If they do, they're feet stink and they don't love Jesus!
Picture I saw was of two obituaries of girls I dated long time ago, one I was close to marrying. We both agreed to break it off. She never married or had kids. Biggest mistake I ever made! Been to cemetery a few times. She is between three brothers like they are going to protect baby sister! Tear ducts still work!
Last year was my 40th class reunion, never been to one,but saw on Facebook that a girl I dated passed away.it really took me back to what broke us up. Something that was very small issue I thought we would get back together .never did ,never seen her again after graduation, but I always had tender fillings for her. Probably all men have been in the same situation.
I had two different former girlfriends die at the age of 44 only weeks apart......one who would have made a great wife and the other who would have been the perfect mistress......Unfortunately, I missed out on them both!
I'm 73, and lived through a lot of groups. But these boys are my absolute favorite group of all time. Thanks.
This was the first song I ever heard the Statler Brothers sing, and I was hooked from then on; have been a huge Statler Brothers fan since 1977!
Rip Harold. God bless you man.

Most of us guys have lived this song!
Absolutely, at 83 years of age I’m still living it, so sad😢.
Probably my favorite group ever!
This is a song I love to listen to. The Statler Brothers display our colors so well.

"So now you've made your bed and I hope you lie well in it/ And I hope you'll both be happy/You see I still lie well, too" Brilliant.

LOVE LEW!...DON'T JEER JIMMY...BOTH A MAJOR PART OF THE WHOLE GROUP WE ALL LOVE SO MUCH...GREAT "STORY" SONG
With groups it is about the sound, i.e. Statlers, Oak Ridge Boys, and this group certainly had the sound.
One of my favorites of theirs
I miss you💕
I remember when the Statler’s were a really ‘Hot Ticket’....good times for me back then.

NICE VOICE AND SONG
So sweet....

I have all the respect in the world for Jimmy Fortune but that Lew DeWitt was awesome.
You've got that right, we used to go to Happy Birthday USA every year, good times1
The new antology Don wrote is on its way. Can't wait to read the story on THIS song.

I recall her picture in the paper Sunday morning . It still haunts me to this day . September 22 2019 . And that was over fourth years ago .
My favorite song use to be Charlotte's Web. Till I heard More Than a Name On The Wall
If you notice Lew has a yodeling voice, thats what sets He and Jimmy apart.
Remembering how Lew sang on the end of "I'll go to my Grave Loving You".
@@CastleMr40 It took me quite while to decide whether it was his voice or the steel guitar wailing......
this was with their first member of the group Lew Dewitt
Harold Reid.....April 24,2020.....RIP
Search for it on RUclips. It's on RUclips.
Rip Harold
Lawd I live to hear loud, but Jimmy is an awesome singer as well.
