I redownloaded faf this morning and realized I started playing this game 7 years ago. It's still a fantastic game and very much so loved. Kudos to you for keeping the casts going! At the end of the day, you could have decided at any point to drop supcom and move on to more popular video themes, but you kept at it and we love you for it! (

I'm still hilariously bad. Could be because I like to turtle a lot, which does not work here. So I'm stuck at obliterating easy AI with Artillery.
Still fun tho.
Started not too long ago, it's great fun, even though the first ladder matches are, uh, hard, but it teaches you fast.
Love watching Blodir come back from the brink. His 2 v 6 pros vs. joes on Dual Gap was the same. He can be on the back foot, have his infrastructure ruined, then manage to push his way back and go on the offensive. Go Blodir

Started well.
Blue pushed into air well.
Red counterattack effective.
Blue was blunted and forgot how to mass combined arms.
Red took the middle and kept the bottom right.
Half way and I’m calling this for red right now, we’ll see.
Red won’t attack and blue doesn’t attack as a formation.
Well, I called it.
Closet at points than I expected but blue seemed to have a build but couldn’t deal with being countered. Red took the hits, made the counter then kept up the pressure, especially in the air. A bit more harass-defence from red with T2/3 creep would have been nice. Blue needed to support his 6 unit attack squads instead of using them as suicide buffers.
The second T3 ship was a mistake blue should have switched to some AE or direct fire ships/air and slaughtered the obvious second wave of spam.
@@IRMentat I would've went with some artillery in the bottom right corner myself, but yeah, should've seen the spam coming.

Yep, it's easy to see when we have all the information from a neutral observer, but there are many points in this game where either player could push their advantage and win sooner. Turin never looked like threatening Blodir, despite having air superiority for much of the game, and hitting earlier timings like T3 land and sea. He's right about the unit suiciding giving him mass, but what use did he make of it? Even the GC was used when he had already lost.

Btw(for us nerds out there) I find that SupCom is the ONLY universe that could stand against that of Warhammer. ACUs are incredibly powerful and mech marines dwarf a space marine. I personally like Warhammer more but I also love SupCom and the fact that both could reliably box each other or COMPLETELY annihilate the other universes if together simply satisfies me;)
A Mech Marine is 6m tall (The size of an Imperial Knight) and fires 500mm rounds from its dual machine guns, it absolutely wipes the floor with most 40k ground units aside from large titans. And that's just the most basic combat unit!
I don't know where you're pulling your information, but it's completely wrong. Imperial knights are up to 12 meters tall, and that's the smallest one of them all, and not really the part of the main efforts of the Titan Legion. Even the "scout" class titan is 14 meters tall, your main bulk of the titan army consists of Warlord class Titans that are 33 meters tall. Those guys could mow Mech Marines in hundreds. And then there are still Imperator class titans. Also I'm, pretty sure that in terms of firepower, there's not even a point of comparison between the two. We're talking about giant machines with basically impenetrable layers of extremely powerful void shields, vs mostly unshielded troops, or shields that can be taken down with conventional (albeit larger caliber) weaponry with some effort. As for weapons... Let's just say that after reading Titandeath I find it hard to be impressed with anything I've seen in supreme commander. And this is just titans, there are many, many, many, many other things that might be an even bigger issue to overcome.
So, no. It's still not as crazy and absolutely off the rails as 40k is. I'm pretty sure that if you put the SupCom universe inside 40k, or vice versa, they would get absolutely swarmed and slaughtered not only by the imperium, but by just about any other race out there. Maybe besides Tau.
You are forgetting that in universe Mech Marines can be produced in seconds. How long does it take for an Imperial Knight to drop to a planet? Or to be produced?
Mass numbers will obliterate anything 40k can throw at it, and yeah I stand corrected Imperial Knights are between 9 and 12 metres tall - however are much less maneuverable than a Mech Marine.
@@RiskOfBaer When bringing up this discussion you have to consider how big T2, T3 and T4 units are.
There is no species / nation i can think of in WH40k which will stand a chance versus a couple commanders with quantum gateway technology.
The SupCom technology is so advanced that it could beat most of the "existing" factions of every other SciFi universe i know of.
Surely i'm not very well educated in the lore of 40k but i'm pretty sure they don't have any way of moving in an instant or creating whole bases within minutes.

I hope you get the point. There is no way any 40k faction only has a slight chance versus a couple of commanders. Of which there a plenty in the endless war...
To give context, the official measurements of an Imperator Class Titan put it at about the size of the Statue of Liberty, so approximately the same size as the Cybran ACU pictured in the image.
Played some Total Annihilation back in the days and now stumbled on these casts ( which are awesome! ). Just want to make sure before i buy, when i google it seems like Supreme Commander Forged Alliance is the game people play. Is this correct?

And old game but a goodie! From about 18:30 Blodir was able to use his commander to build up the bottom area again. He fortified the area and was able to build T2 mexes, aided by reclaim. Turin's mistake was to try a run by instead of tangling with the com and applying more pressure to deny that area. Therefore his air dominance a few minutes previously didn't have a long term impact on the game.
This one skirmish is the whole game in microcosm - Turinturamber pulling off a tactical win, but losing strategically. This happens again and again.
Also, something I don't see players doing is manually attacking the ground to destroy reclaim. Remember that around 80% of a unit's mass is left behind in its wreck. So killing a ~900 mass T2 mex leaves around 700 mass on the ground. If you don't deny the area to the enemy, they can reclaim and quickly build up without much trouble. For micro focused players I think this would be huge.
I just wanted to say "thank you," since I love SupCom and I had no idea that FAF even existed before you showed up in my recommended videos.
Fun cast as all ways, I have to say though I'm not a big fan of how effective hover tanks, from any of the factions, can be against navel units.
Hey Gyle, is there any chance you could upscale your videos and upload them in 4K?
I think the higher bitrate would really help with compression - I have trouble seeing unit icons even in fullscreen due to the youtube compression, and uploading at 4K significantly lowers it, even if the video is really 1080p upscaled.

Do you know about restarting replay issue?
Basicly something bad may happen randomly if you use restart replay function. So don't record after restarting replay. Close fa and run replay again.

My absolute shock at 32:00 when we see a pro player has not built a single radar. It's like a theme with these players that they tend to not build essential buildings and I'll never understand it.
On the flipside, Turin was doing a pretty good job of sending scout planes through every so often. He was too slow to spot the nuke but he did see it eventually and was part way to loading his SMD when the nuke landed.
I agree it's a silly mistake though, and it's funny because it also doesn't look like pros use templates much if at all. A simple defensive template with a radar, some TMD, maybe AA that could be scattered along sensitive areas would go a long way to preventing common weaknesses.
I’m pretty sure he had radar but it shut off when he power-stalled.
as a palyer from the very old days (10 y ago) is it reasonable to start playing this game again ? mostly into SC2 and fps shooters. Dont wanna invest too much time to be able to compete/have some fun. opinions?

Seems like Blodir just build enough stuff that he felt his opponent would have to spend a lot of time killing it off, stopped a majority of his unit production, and then diverted all his resources into core Ecoing while Turinturamber was dismantlement his navy chunks of his land. Do I have a correct read on that?
did seem to throw off Turin off,he was winning the battles early on but not actually getting anywhere he never countered the spam units just kept on building the T3 ship, after 20 minutes it did not seem Blodir was going to lose as he was only losing units not eco

This might be a noob question but, aside from the possible energy cost, why are there so few turtles, or better yet, so few point defenses on these ranked games?
Whenever I see a game that a player includes them in their base they lose Experimentals and units left and right but then you get situation like this where he's being overran by tier 1 and 2 units.
It's just that if you decide to turtle, you're gonna have less map control, therefore less resources. With that, your enemy is gonna have more resources to build units with, and any defences you build aren't gonna be able to keep up because your opponent just has more everything. Aside from defences, I guess. You know how it is, there's always strength in numbers.

Question: I've been looking for something to fill my Total Annihilation campaign hole for a while,so is Sup Com: Forged alliance worth purchasing just for the campaign? Not sure about whether I want to try multiplayer yet.
Campaing is ok, but honestly the fun is playing with other players. Way more ways to win and play since the campaign will eventually turn you into a turtle player.

Anyone here have any experience with Zero-K? It's another Total Annihilation successor game, this time made by the TA community itself, that came out on Steam last year (it's free tho). Is it actually good? Any thoughts about it?
Its like a worse-graphics, worse gameplay diversity version of Supcom FAF. At least by my view. But I don't hate it.

Its kind of depressing but it seems it really works. Analytics shows this video is up by 3% No. of clicks from RUclips's recomended videos page. That's translated into about 2000 - 3000 extra views that i would normally have acquired by this point, that's like a 33 % increase above average give or take. Not sure if I'm going to make a habit of it though.
