I’m dumbfounded that anyone would give this a thumbs down. You are FABULOUS and I’m so appreciative that you take time to make these videos for us. I don’t have the time or $ to go to a proper art school, so you are my official art professor. I paint along with you once I get home from work, take care of my family/house/pets and then sit down for my personal growth time. 😊 Love this exercise! I don’t know what Patreon is, but I will head over there to learn and to support you. Thank you and have a terrific week!
Love your backyard you lucky artist. Beauty and inspiration right where you live. I live in Colorado and it's hard to believe the forest fires that are happening so close to where I live. It is so beautiful here and hopefully snow is forecast tonight and this nightmare will end. Thank you for your tutorial. You are a wonderful teacher and artist.
Thank you so much, this is working out really well for me (and I don't often say that!!). We picked up autumn leaves from the grass in the local park so I actually traced round some of them to get good shapes. We overheard a small boy questioning his mum "Why is that lady picking up the leaves?" which amused me no end!
Love it!!! Will give it a try soon! I don't have acrylic in but will see what happens using some drops of alcohol...will let you know how it turns out. Thanks again for a fun tutorial.
Thank you so much for this phantastic tutorial !!! The colors of the autumn are so beautiful! Sometimes I have a little trouble understanding your fast pronunciation, as I am German and learned English very briefly at school. Nevertheless, it gives me great pleasure to watch your tutorials and share your enthusiasm for watercolor painting. Thank you very much for that!
Oooh this is a beautiful technique - your tutorials always take me by storm - they are always so easily and well explained, nice and beginner friendly. They are realistic and never cost the earth. One has most things at home already. What I really love most, ist that I can paint right alongside of you - you give me the time to do so. It is so much easier that way. Your voice is so relaxing, its catchy, so I relax too - and enjoy what I am creating, without amy pressure - exactly what me scaredy cat needs ! Thank you so much Ellen - much appreciated! 💕
Really love your abstract ones, they feel so fun and free. No stress of sketching things correctly! Although I am working on my drawing skills, there is nothing like moving paint around the page with no limits!
Loved watching you create this! The only paints I have so far are a basic set of bottled acrylics in common colors and a grammar school set of water colors. I have gel pens and colored pencils. I may have one metallic Sharpie in bronze. And I have a pad of water color paper and some brushes. None of it is very expensive. So with my meager supplies, can I do anything similar to what you’ve done here? I keep hearing, “Use what you have.” But just how far can I take that advice? Can you tell I need some encouragement? Thank you ...🙂
I love this and and going to try doing it tomorrow. Thank you for speeding up and making it fun. A lot of tutorials I have to turn the sound off and just watch, but you stay with what you’re doing and I appreciate that. I’ve learned a lot from watching you 💜
Love, love, love this lesson. A funny thing...i already had my settings at increased speed, so when you sped up, the effects were just hilarious. Thanks for both the laugh and the great lesson. I'm now planning to send autumn leaves to my nieces on the west coast
Beautiful. I always enjoyed your demos. A suggestion for you: have the main veins radiate from base of leaf. Secondary veins spread out from main veins.
For a beginner this just looks so professional and loose, I love all this natural abstracts. Art can be quite tense to do, so this is fun and relaxing. Amazing result. I have Windsor and Newton Indian ink, can I use that
That one was fantastic! I cant wait to dry that one. What kind of ink did you use? I love the gold shining through. It reminds me of sunspots in photography

This is lovely to hear. We have gone through job losses in our family in the UK and we have no idea of the future. Ellen's art has helped me a lot. I have been putting up watercolour postcards in community notice boards and I have sent postcards to an isolated lady in a rural area in the UK, who has 3 cats, and to through friend's door boxes when I go past to do my shopping. I have also been putting poems and watercolour postcards on rural farm gates in England as rural people and businesses are suffering too. i am supposed to put a watercolour postcard each week in the community notice board, but they like mine so much the postcard stays up lol
Ellen what colors would you recommend getting in the Holbein watercolors? I have so many different brands of watercolors, some are great, some not so much. I see how the colors in the Holbein brand are so vibrant, so I would like to give them a try. Any special colors other than the basics?
This turned out beautiful , what could you use if you don’t have inks ? I would love to try this , I will have to get some gold ink ! thank you so much for the tutorial xoxo

It’s beautiful Ellen, I love how the first layer glows through the leaves. The splatter adds a nice touch. Thank you!
You are so welcome!
If we don't have inks, what is the back up?
I love this!! What do you think about using salt if I don’t have ink? Then maybe splatter with watercolor? I’ll play!
Love, love, love this lesson. A funny thing...i already had my settings at increased speed, so when you sped up, the effects were just hilarious. Thanks for both the laugh and the great lesson. I'm now planning to send autumn leaves to my nieces on the west coast
Love this teachnique!! So gorgeous! My leaves look a little funky but so fun!!
Love ya, Ellen! Please let us know the benefit of using Scotch tape. For me it's the cost and ease of use.
Beautiful. I always enjoyed your demos. A suggestion for you: have the main veins radiate from base of leaf. Secondary veins spread out from main veins.

Tło jest tak piękne, nawet bez listków. Dziękuję za inspiracje i nauki. Pozdrawiam serdecznie izik 🙂
That one was fantastic! I cant wait to dry that one. What kind of ink did you use? I love the gold shining through. It reminds me of sunspots in photography
Would this technique work with acrylic paint for the spatters instead of ink?
So beautiful Ellen! One question if I don’t have the liquid paints but do have liquid watercolors would this work too? Thank you
those were acrylic ink not sure you would get similar effect but you certainly can just use watercolor :)
@@ellencrimitrent thank you!!
