Best of luck mate! I'm on a similar mission, low HR cardio (Z2) and strength work. As you say, - consistency is the key. One thing I've noticed - be very careful with so called "cheat days". They can make many days of hard dedication fruitless.
This might be the video and challenge I need (thank you algorithm), the final push to get started again. Currently at 97kg. 90kg by Christmas is the goal, 85kg if possible. Goodluck, see you next week!
This aligns with a set of goals I was formulating for myself over the same time period. I am currently at about 90 KG (199lbs), looking to end at about 77 KB (170lbs). I am looking forward to the challenge and following your progress. Along with the nutrition side, for my activities, I will be focusing on road cycling (I am a dedicated roadie), along with kettlebell work, walking and some rucking.
Current Weight: 91kgs Goal Weight: 80 kgs 11kgs by Christmas My main issue is also diet. I would like to have 2-3 easy to make and nutritionally complete recipes
That is perfect timing! Currently 83kg, want to be 75/76kg for a marathon in December. Will be hoping to document my journey on RUclips too and will be checking in with your channel for the accountability updates! Thanks 🙏
Love this idea! Best of luck with it and I’ll definitely join you along the way. I’m 99kgs at the moment and haven’t been in the 80s since pre Covid. I’ve signed up to a half marathon at the end of March 2025 so need to be in some sort of form for that. My aim is to be sub 90kgs at Christmas Day. Will look forward to seeing your weekly updates and hope I can be progressing in the same way too
Glad you've taken the plunge and that you appreciate it's not easy to lose weight especially after the first few pounds. I am 70 now and have struggled with my wt since my early 20s open.( I inherited. a big appetite the elephant in the room and that's a big problem).. Good luck with your journey I'm nearly at the end of mine so won't be following you until Christmas hopefully as I am now at a BMI of 23. All I can say is it's the hardest thing I ever did was losing weight. Ended up more or less locking myself away, and concentrating on walking swimming gentle Zwift and a little bit of weight training on a slightly calorie restricted fairly high protein otherwise well balanced diet (
Congrats on your success. Great to hear what is possible. I'm 57 next week so don't have the unbroken metabolism of the younger guys but believe it is still possible.
That is an amazing idea. I'm at 108 kg at the moment and I want to drop 25 kg before my bday in May. To get the ball rolling, I will join the challenge and try to lose 12.5 kg before Xmas with a healhty mix of dieting & exercise. I used to struggle with dieting, now I struggle with exercise and diet 🙈. Good luck Jarrod and good luck to everyone joining the challenge
I know how you feel mate. I'm a shift worker here in Australia and I'm sitting here on night shift watching this right now and wondering how to get the willpower to not snack over the next couple of hours lol
Also shiftworker here from the Netherlands... I usually train before afternoon shifts and when waking up before/after nightshifts and the 'days off'. Morning shifts are my problem, usually completely dead after them and preferably take some naps on the couch which is always a bad idea.
I've been working on something similar, as I was up to 125kg after being 92kg back in 2020. I'm down to 117kg, and trying to get 0.5 - 1kg off a week. It's been a struggle, especially when stress can completely kill my appetite before I eat and typically overeat. It's not been the easiest route but I've been lifting for the last 2 months which has seen good progress but I can't walk due to a leg issue so I tend to cycle. Do feel you with the deadlifting - I played rugby for 15+ years and my leg strength has never been bad!
while I'm no nutritionist, I think it needs to be reiterated that 1kg off a week is pretty extreme as you said. I've always read that 500g a week is a much more sustainable number. Now obviously, everyone is different and in your case being taller than the average person and starting from a higher weight means it's less extreme relative to you personally than it would for someone who is 170cm tall and starts at 85kg for example. I'm not saying to say you won't manage it, I'm convinced you are very capable of it, it's more to say: even if you only managed half of that it would be a great result already ! It's also for other listeners, to ensure they managed their expectations. Anyway I hope my comment doesn't come across as negative because it's really meant to be supportive. And for the record, I'm overweight myself and would also like to lose approximately the same weight as you, so it's not coming from a place of looking down or patronizing
It's a hard but achievable goal - The problem is JM is also trying to increase his performance which is not going to be achievable with that much of a deficit.
@@SuchGoodKiwi Yes, I think if it was a net 1000kCals deficit taking into account energy expended through exercise it would be achievable which My Futnes Pal does allow you to include.
This is perfect for me! I was about to do something like this anyway and doing it with other people makes it even easier and more fun. I had lost weight but had two knee replacements, which really limited my ability to burn calories. Sometimes I adjusted my diet and to be honest sometimes I didn't. So right now I am 198 lb/90 kilos and I would like to reach 165 lb/75 kilos by Christmas.
Best of luck, Jarrod! I used to be 120kg, got down to 89kg but I’m back up again, currently at 103.5kg. My goal weight is also 85kg. I’ll also be using MyFitnessPal and I will be doing cycling and running for my cardio. By the end of the month I’ll start to incorporate strength training. Great idea with the accountability video. We can do this!
Good luck. I am doing similar, I was 205 in June and now 193.6 today. I did it all without counting calories and eating mostly meat with 20ish grams or less of carbs. Build muscle to help with fat burning and long long zone 2 sessions. Best of luck with your approach.
@@davidr1431 the best way I found is to keep food choices simple and cost effective. I eat 4 eggs and some breakfast meat in the mornings (bacon, spam, or ham). For lunch and/or dinner (since I’m not always hungry) I eat chicken (legs or thighs) or some form of red meat (steak, ribs, shredded beef, etc). Eat enough meat to feel full. Your body will naturally tell you when to stop. I for drinks I start my day with a scoop of electrolytes in water then drink diet/zero sugar sodas throughout the day while also mixing in electrolytes and water. I probably drink more soda than recommended but the caffeine and carbonation helps in between meals to extend meal times.
The only time I have carbs is with my post workout protein shake and with some zero sugar energy drinks that have 2 carbs. Also, low carb tortillas, but I eat those once a week or less since they are low net carbs and heavy fiber which doesn’t sit well for me but I have tested with a glucose meter and the do have a minimal affect on my blood glucose.
@@SteakandChains Thanks so much. I appreciate the time you took to help with this. Hopefully it will be of interest to others as well. I’m starting today!

Hi Jarod, I was thinking about joining a challenge of some sort. And here you are! So, I'm game! My weight is 79.5 kg, BF 29%. My goal is to drop 14 kg, BF 18-20% by the end of the year. Can't wait. Thanks! 🙏🤩
I'm at 90kg and would love to be at ~77kg Currently training for my first Olympic tri and dropping weight in a heavy training block is pretty difficult, but I may give the challenge a go too
I will go along, as trying to do it to do it on my own and mix result. I am 101 kg, will try to reach 86kg then!! I am running, cycling, home trainer and gym. Best of luck on your side and wish me luck too
As you are on Zwift, maybe you could do a group ready together. If it is banded then everyone can go at their own pace but still be together. Maybe a fun idea? I’m currently 100kg and so 15kg would be a good start goal for me by Christmas. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Would also highly recommend taking your measurements- Chest, Bicep, Waist, Hips, Thigh, Calf.. For the times when the scale hasn't moved, the inches will still be coming away as your body changes and this is motivation in itself.💪
Insane man! Wish you the best. Last year I went from 106 - to 92 and that was quite difficult but doable. The lower the weight the harder it probably gets. Going to follow this! edit: Are you working fulltime with that workout schedule?
