I bought a perdix 2 upon glowing reviews as my first computer to pass ocean diver(open water). Expensive but so is my life. It will be with me forever so cost means not alot. The petrel 3 looks great tho, kinda wish that was around before i got mine
Im a Rec Diver, i got it and LOVE it... The Display is so nice... I know its a Overkill...Its so NICE... 🙂 @DiveVibe Your Voice is so outstanding, no Homo :P Live long an prosper...🖖
@@DiveVibe I put my cutting device on my wrist straps on my Perdix but I wanna swap to bungee and a slate seems like a great candidate for that space too!
Cool, but really the big feature is the vibration alert (which that and/or audible should have always been in the CCR controllers.) So it's a hefty bump to buy the same unit again to get a software upgrade and the vibration/AI receiver chip. Plus all the vendor lock-in stuff -- Revo and Hollis and all the other forks. Can it do CANBus? 7 year old platform without a price break.
If you upgrade, sell the old one. Shearwaters have insane resale value. The screen, vibration, better battery cap, and more info on home screen (very helpful when diving an mCCR) made it worth it for me. People have been clamoring for air integration on the petrel for years as well. Im not big on air integration, but more power to anyone that likes it.
NOT the end all be all. my petrel went 19 dives and took a S... from flooding, crappy support from shearwater they charged me 3500.00 to repair. My 23 year old cochran em20 is still going strong and wodks great for ccr too.
Im not really interested in having an argument on the internet, but I have so many questions. 3500? That cant be USD right? How did it flood? I flooded my petrel 2 by forgetting to finish tightening the battery door when a customer asked me a question. Told shearwater it was my fault and they still repaired it free of charge. It was out of warranty too.
Changed my controller from the Petrel 2 to the Petrels 3 for my JJ-ccr, and love the new Petrel 3. Would like your opinion should I get the Petrel 3 as my back up over the current Perdix AI that I am using.
That's awesome! If you already have a petrel 3 as your controller, then I'd just keep diving the perdix AI until it dies. Although they do have pretty good resale value. So if you're trying to have a bunch of titanium on your wrists, go for it! lol
Nope! These garden eels are down south. Good guess, but the fact that there aren't any tourists flopping around in the background is a dead giveaway. Loooool
I would guess it's a little brighter, but I haven't had a chance to compare them. They're both very bright though and you can dial them back for caves and night dives.
Seriously though, caught myself looking through a macro viewfinder for waaay too long the other day, even with a NERD2 right there. Going with this camera hand vibrator until they work out how to put my ppO2's onto my camera screen info

If I didn't need to connect this thing to my ccr, I probably would have gotten a perdix 2. Great computer.
I’m definitely getting one of these now.
It's great!
I want it! The only problem, my current Perdix AI just works, and does a great job. I just love sharewayer computers.

Stellar video and the Petrel 3 looks like a top pick for CCR divers. Cheers, #SeattleRingHunter
Can you do a video showing how you did your bungee loops with the slate? I really would love that set up.
Sure! Sounds like a perfect candidate for a "short".
@@DiveVibe Was wondering this as well. Does that configuration also work with the Perdix?
@@kevinmartin2076 Totally! I'll make a short about it and tag you guys.
Me too! I see Edd Sorenson has done the same

“I am glad you are here with me. Here at the end of all visibility, Petrel 3.”
― J.R.R. Tolkien, The Return of the King... probably
Loooool, that's awesome Kevin. Now I wish I had done a lord of the rings style intro.
The intro sounded like a terminator movie or in depth war movie or something, great voice dude, you should do the voices in documentares!
Wow! Thank you!
You're awesome man. I really appreciate the kind words. I'm definitely going for 80s Scifi, so terminator is high praise!

@@DiveVibe are you still teaching on Kona? Who with?
@WhaleShark I still teach for Jack's, but just tech/ccr classes when they come up. It's what I prefer to teach anyways.
@@DiveVibe Ah bummer but makes sense. My wife is doing her OW with Jack's and was hoping she might luck out and get you haha!
@@whaleshark2625 when is her pool day?
Brother I think your voice got deeper, lol... as a perdix and a petral owner, they are the best...
Lol, so I used a compressor effecr on my voice. Without it, im hard to understand through speakers. What do you think? Too distracting?
@@DiveVibe I like it, sounds good.
Sounds good
Was waiting for the new haptic vibrator to comically interrupt your cinematic vibedown mid-sentence with a DM from ppO2 😁👍
"hey. u up?"
This is my favorite comment.
Is the petrel 3 brighter than the perdix 2?

The perfect underwater computer would be the Peregrine when or if they add AI
So I bought one after watching this video thanks for the reminder, plz harass RebreathersUSA for your commission
