Ff funny you should say that, I adore Neil Innes and I am now on my first Guinness pub draft pint of the night celebrating Christmas on Friday, December 25, 2020, right here in San Diego California, where I’ve seen Neil live twice in the past decade, as well as once at the Troubadour in Los Angeles/Hollywood Circle 1994.
I saw Neil's live solo show many times over the years. It was literally fantastic. Incredibly laugh outloud funny and musically brilliant. I wish we had seen a lot more of him. RIP Neil.
Was it the Syphillis or the Mercury they used to treat it with in those days. (Seriously.) Also, people didn't always get it from intercourse, they were inheriting it genetically in those days.
Neil ,..Probably one of rock's premier tortured Geniuses ,.... he needs to be put into the rock n roll hall of Fame ,... Amazing Songwriting talent, vision, genius, enough ,..to last a lunch time,..
It is worth pointing out that the Rutles' version was based on "Roll Over Beethoven" (if anyone's confused as to why this one sounds so un-Beatlesque).
Neil Innes as Ron Nasty, as Schubert, as Mike Hammer? Wow, a lot going on there , but I love it. He's great. 😎👍👏👏 I have his version of this song, as a Rutle on the original soundtrack. I've never seen this clip before. Awesome.
Its an irony that in his lifetime I hadnt even heard the Rutles for sure I had heard about them but that was all I knew ubtil the other day.Wow blew me away and I am a lifel9bg fan of the Beatles.Posthumous fame has come to Neil and it will grow like an acorn grows into a mighty oak
This is awesome. Val Kilmer should have sung this with the orchestra in "Top Secret." I met him a few months before he died, but then I only knew him from the Rutles movie.
Well you can take it any way you want You can shake it till it's back to front If you rock it till it's inside out Let me tell you what it's all about It's a rock 'n roll symphony and it's gonna be the death of me They call me Blue Suede Schubert The king of the bop Blue Suede Schubert I just can't stop When I get that beat my music is complete Ow! Well, it's crazy but you know it's true You gotta do what you gotta do And I'm gonna have to sing my song while the back beat's going strong Everybody rock 'n roll 'n more even rolling all around the floor They call me Blue Suede Schubert The king of the bop Blue Suede Schubert I just can't stop When I hear that drum I'm gonna blow to kingdom come They call me Blue Suede Schubert The king of the bop Blue Suede Schubert I just can't stop When I get that beat my music is complete Blue Suede Schubert Blue Suede Schubert Blue Suede Schubert Blue Suede Schubert Blue Suede Schubert when I'm dead I'll drop
Not bad. I remember Neil from The Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band (1966 to 1970). He certainly looked a lot like Schubert in that suit and hairdo and pince nez glasses. Interesting that when the right hand was soloing, we only saw the left hand. I suspect Neil doulbe-tracked the piano. Ah well, he had a successful life.
Slight mistake on the sheet music at the beginning someone should have noticed. Brahms and Liszt were not musically active when Schubert was around much. They came later..
I don't know much about Schubert, other than he was a classical composer. He was probably an accomplished pianist as well. Everyone back then was, it seems.
He was pretty good, although his 'Wanderer' fantasy defeated him; apparently he slammed the lid down part way through it and said the Devil could play it.
If Schubert were alive at the present time he would be enormously rich from the songs that he was churning out. That's supposing he had a good agent. One of Schubert's problems was that he just wrote too much music and saturated the market.
I wonder what happened to Neil's "You men are all the same, there's only one thing on your mind" That is a favourite of mine. It used to be here on RUclips, but I cannot find it..... ???
Is it just me? By 2:16 it kind of sounds like a Beatles song I just can’t think of it with the rhythm boys but I don’t know the violins. I don’t know sound like a Beatles song I can’t name it.
Oh Neil, you were the best. RIP fella. You left behind so much good music, as long as people have a sense of humor, you'll be remembered.
I look at it this way . There's going to be some first rate entertainment in the next life😁 .
Long live The Rutles.
A comedy genius. We'll not see his like again. Thanks for everything Mr. Innes.
I miss this guy...I might be the only rutles enjoyer in singapore, but i am not gonna let that stop me from showing how genius neil innes is!
ELO unplugged! Almost as good as The Rutles cover version some 150 years later.
In one of my playlists, The next track i have in the list is. Decomposing composers, written by Eric Idle, :)
I thought it sounded like something Jeff Lynne would produce.
What a wordsmith and musical marvel! I’ll raise a Guinness - RIP Neil Innes.

Simply marvellous! I hope the Guinness was smooth and velvety. Festive grittings!🎄🎅🎄

A sad loss to the world, a very underrated man! R.I.P.
Another great part of stoner youth gone.
Neil Innes : Classical Music and Comedy GENIUS!! Thanks for all of the great mind-expanding humor you shared with us. RIP old friend.
So fortunate to see him in Seattle, and then to talk to such a gracious, humble man afterwards.
RIP Neil Innes - No twist he did exist and the world was much richer because of it.
This guy is a hoot! And a creative genius...
Fortunately there was a video crew there to record the birth of rock before the syphillis killed poor old Schubert.
It was all those skanky groupies that got him...
He should've worn a sheath.
And he also left everything unfinished...
Was it the Syphillis or the Mercury they used to treat it with in those days. (Seriously.) Also, people didn't always get it from intercourse, they were inheriting it genetically in those days.
It was not syphillis. It was someone who stepped on my (blue suede) Schubert.
The look on the face of the cello player at 0:58 is priceless...
Richard Stilgoe something of a uk 70s legend in his own right.
Rest in peace, Mr. Innes.
Pure genius! Totally ahead of its time, still stands strong today.
Thank you Neil
Neil ,..Probably one of rock's premier tortured Geniuses ,.... he needs to be put into the rock n roll hall of Fame ,... Amazing Songwriting talent, vision, genius, enough ,..to last a lunch time,..
The greatest song ELO never wrote!
He will be missed :(
We lost one of the greats today.....
This song and video has brought me so much joy over the last couple years RIP Neil Innes.
Damn, this was great...
Mr. Innes, we miss you!
It is worth pointing out that the Rutles' version was based on "Roll Over Beethoven" (if anyone's confused as to why this one sounds so un-Beatlesque).
And sung by Stig O'Hara, correct?
“Bop Schubert bop bop Schubert”, that is Stig O’Hara
Neil Innes as Ron Nasty, as Schubert, as Mike Hammer? Wow, a lot going on there , but I love it. He's great. 😎👍👏👏 I have his version of this song, as a Rutle on the original soundtrack. I've never seen this clip before. Awesome.
God Bless you Neil
This song rocks, great Neil Innes!
RIP Neil.
We love you and miss you Neil Innes ❤️

Why wasn't this a single? Why isn't The Innes Book Of Records out on DVD? Best comedy/music series ever made...
This is awesome. Val Kilmer should have sung this with the orchestra in "Top Secret."
I met him a few months before he died, but then I only knew him from the Rutles movie.
Well you can take it any way you want
You can shake it till it's back to front
If you rock it till it's inside out
Let me tell you what it's all about
It's a rock 'n roll symphony
and it's gonna be the death of me
They call me Blue Suede Schubert
The king of the bop
Blue Suede Schubert
I just can't stop
When I get that beat
my music is complete
Ow!
Well, it's crazy but you know it's true
You gotta do what you gotta do
And I'm gonna have to sing my song
while the back beat's going strong
Everybody rock 'n roll 'n more
even rolling all around the floor
They call me Blue Suede Schubert
The king of the bop
Blue Suede Schubert
I just can't stop
When I hear that drum
I'm gonna blow to kingdom come
They call me Blue Suede Schubert
The king of the bop
Blue Suede Schubert
I just can't stop
When I get that beat
my music is complete
Blue Suede Schubert
Blue Suede Schubert
Blue Suede Schubert
Blue Suede Schubert
Blue Suede Schubert
when I'm dead I'll drop
Y u post all neil innes lyrics
@@YMeDoyElLujazo He deserve that and more :3
Nothing short of genius, he was.
I still have my Rutles album on vinyl. I wasn't aware of this version until now.
Great number and I like the Blue Suede Shoes wordplay.
Not bad. I remember Neil from The Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band (1966 to 1970). He certainly looked a lot like Schubert in that suit and hairdo and pince nez glasses. I find that Shubert's trousers are not thight enough for this song!
❤️
RIP Neil
Slight mistake on the sheet music at the beginning someone should have noticed. Brahms and Liszt were not musically active when Schubert was around much. They came later..
Other than that, this video is 100% historically accurate.
Poetic licence!
Liszt composed well over 60 works in Schubert's lifetime and was a seasoned performer. He even met Schubert.
Loved this series. Why don't they release it on DVD?
Thanks
Amazing !!!
Neil Innes should have joined ELO, when it was still good.
Excelente
Ah, ah, ah! Excellent! :))
Genius
Now if Schubert could have tickled those ivories like that when he was around.
Hmmm..

Rock poet laureate
Didn't make it into the original Rutles video/tv show, but is on the extended (Rhino) album.
They do leave something to the imagination. . .
Because the Beatles covered Roll Over Beethoven among other 50's rock songs. This has the same rhythm and sound of Roll Over, for sure.
Yes but it lacked the comic genius of Blue Suede Schubert.
I wonder what the real Schubert would've thought of this. He'd probably be rolling over in his grave (hey, there's an idea for a song).
Or he would be rollin over from laughter!
After all, he did indicate that he wouldn't 'drop', until dead. And he is living on. As, Mike Hammer?! Lol
If Schubert were alive at the present time he would be enormously rich from the songs that he was churning out. That's supposing he had a good agent. One of Schubert's problems was that he just wrote too much music and saturated the market.
Rutles
I think it was the trousers
I wonder what happened to Neil's "You men are all the same, there's only one thing on your mind" That is a favourite of mine. It used to be here on RUclips, but I cannot find it..... ???
effyleven don't know if this is still relevant to you, but on this channel that song is there under "One thing on your mind"
Yeah! Makes me think of ELO a´la 1971 or something...
Innes Light Orchestra... latterly known as ILO
I like the Rutles cover but I am a Rutles fan
3:35 Looks like Buck Dharma in the Shooting Shark video (Blue Oyster Cult).
Is that Richard Stilgoe on Cello?
Is that a problem?
Abc Bcde ?
It'll never catch on.
I miss your adroitness on so many situations
An other of the Bonzo's gone ..so sad !
Wow - I never liked classical music before.
Roy Wood and Jeff Lynne approve!
oooooooh!!
Passé
🙏🤗🍺cheers
This reminds me of ELO
r i p
That's Dada fer ya ... performance art
Is it just me? By 2:16 it kind of sounds like a Beatles song I just can’t think of it with the rhythm boys but I don’t know the violins. I don’t know sound like a Beatles song I can’t name it.
LoL... and the harp behind ;-°
Am I tripping, or does Neil look like Joel Fleischman?
Reminds me of Belushi.
How come Schubert is singing in English and then talks in German after the song is over? I must be missing something. 🤔
It's funny, but actually this could have been played in the 19th century with instruments of the time!
Roll Over Beethoven!
roll over beethoven!
Well..he looks like Schubert..lol
I think he's much bigger than Rod! Not God, you're all daft!!!
'I'll probably get in trouble for saying that, now "
Beethoven stole the melody and best of this....bastard
Are you thinking of op111's 2nd movement? If so, I wonder if some other reference would be better. It reminds me of boogie-woogie.
WTF 😂
RIP Neil
