Wobbling Issue and Solution and Interceptor 650 and Continental GT 650

- Finally. After months of trying and documenting, I've finally managed to find solutions to this 'wobbling of front tyre' for the Interceptor 650 and Continental GT 650.
I've tried to cover all the possible solutions that can help solve it. If there are anymore solutions beside these then please do let me know, I will cover those in the future videos.
I would like to point out that the issue could be solved by just changing the tyres.
(solution 5) However if you are have installed new rubbers and are still facing this issue, then you might want to try the other solutions.
The tyres that I have are dual compound and are from the brand Timsun.
I got them from Torque Block.

Tyre Profile
Front - 100/90/18 and Rear 150/70/18 (this is how it should have come from the factory in my opinion)
I'd like to thank @speedmonksperformancecentr4332 for helping me with the installation.

I own a 2019 RE Interceptor, one of the earliest models since its launch in Nov 2018. Purchased in Jan 2019, it initially had a wobbling issue above 100 kmph. Surprisingly, a simple fix resolved it. A puncture led me to a local tyre shop, where I discovered the tube was incorrect for an 18-inch rim, likely intended for a Honda Unicorn or Shine. Changing to the correct size tube eradicated the wobble, even at speeds of 160 kmph. Check your front tube size - it should be 100/90/18.
Wow! Thank you for telling me this information. If only I knew this back in 2022. And if only I had not got the outex tubeless kit installed on it. 🙏🏽 I will pin this comment so that more people can see this solution.

I've test driven continental gt and interceptor too, and faced this issue in both of them, fews years back and shared this with showroom owner as well, but nobody looked at this seriously and eventually i never got a chance to make my mind in buying this bike. But thanks to you, now i can look forward to it. Thank you.
Thank you so much for sharing this valuable feedback. The Interceptor 650 now comes with Ceat Tyres, but they are not tubeless. Otherwise I’d have gone with them only.
Sad that people at RE showrooms will not look into this as their main goal is always going to be sales. Best to write to RE directly and sharing video feedback. I’ll try this once and address this issue.
I am very much interested for this bike, but this wobbling issue and tubeless things are stopping me . Can't drag 200kg punctured bike , few practical issue should hav been solved by RE
@@nirnaynayak2445 Just go for it. The bike is just awesome. I bought it 6 mo ths back and clocked close to 6500 kms. Yes I encountered the wobble after my 1st puncture, wheel alignment was the issue. Looks like the wobbling is due to eventual uneven wear in the tyres. Do keep us posted on your Timsun Tyres wear and tear. Long term review on these would be helpful
Aye captian! Will do!!
Following up.. could you post your review please ? .. I'm facing the same issue and wondering about the cause
Questions come to mind:
1) Did you check the balance of both wheels? The tires might have had uneven mass distribution, which manifested in a wobble as the rubber gradually wore down.
2) Did you check the lateral runout of both wheels with a dial indicator? The tire may have gotten distorted with wear, or the rims may have gone non-planar or non-perpendicular with the axis of rotation.
3) Did you check the radial runout of both wheels with a dial indicator? The over-tightening of a spoke points to this having been a problem the mechanic found.
4) Was the steering quicker when you went to tubeless tires?
Wow! thank you for these insights. I will pin this comment so others can also benefit from it. I checked the balance on both wheels, it was fine.
2 and 3, yes and yes, Measured the depth of tyre, it was worn out. The steering is now better. Thank you for commenting and for watching the video!
@@SrinivasGanesh - Your mention of an Outex tubeless conversion is the 1st report (in English) that I've seen. Do you recall what the immediate effect was on the steering? Was it easier to initiate and/or complete a turn? Did the front wheel follow road bumps better, i.e. with less time spent airborne or unloaded? Did you sense more control during high speed bumpy turns?
@@daveinwla6360 yep. The outex tubless conversion, in my opinion makes the ride much smoother and plush. It is definitely easier to take turns. Thank you for your comment and for watching the video!
My first front tyre change, the wobble went. I think the Tyre guy in the factory is not good at balancing them.
@@SvenTviking - That's interesting to know. Did you change to the same brand/model of tire, or did you go with a different type of tire?

This is a perfectly needy video...
I've been having the wobbling issue as well...
I did all of the above things you said... 😂
And there were no video on it... At the time...
The cones adjustment bettered the wobbling from worse to okay...
Finally came to know that it was the tyres...
The heavy load of the motorcycle takes a toll on the tyres.......
I'm managing with the stock wheel for now... But replacing the tyres seem to be the solution if all the problem persists after all the previous solution attempts.

Great story, I would have balanced the wheels also. Keep up the good work.
Oh I did get them balanced. That process messed up the tubeless outex kit I had installed. Which was another obstacle which had to be rectified before getting back to resolving the wobbling issue. 🤪

Taking my Intercetor in this week to have a new ECU fitted under Warrantee. The bike cuts-out randomly. The dealer has reflashed the original ECU twice and each time assured me all was fine, but it wasn't. There's loads on the internet about fuel relays and the huge amount of dielectric grease on the connectors, but the dealer seems certain it's the ECU itself. Thank god for the Warrantee. Bet the ECU is worth as much as the rest of the bike put together!
wow! This till now I haven't heard about this issue at all! Thank you for your insight. Keep us posted if the ECU worked out okay?
I own an interceptor 2022 model, I actually bought it after watching your videos Sri, even this one. I didn't experience any wobbling issues on my interceptor but now after 5000kms I am having it on my bike as well, I have the stock ceat tyres installed, I have reported it to Re service center and they weren't able to do anything about it as well. I do like these ceat tyres.. their grip and everything is pretty good but after watching this video again I think ill change it after a couple of thousand kilometres or so because this wobbling issue is very irritating
Congratulations on getting the bike!! Wohoo! But don’t let this wobbling issue let you down. Just be careful and have fun while riding the bike! Thank you for watching my videos! You rock!
@@SrinivasGaneshSame here. My bike has Ceat tires as stock, and I'm facing the same wobbling issue that started at 5500 Kms. RE service centers are not even checking it. I'll try Timsun, but the front tyres are mostly out of stock. Can you suggest any other tire options and websites to buy from?
That was the 1st thing I did and it fixed mine. Running 17" Pirelli MT60RS front and back. 120 and 150 front and rear width. GT650.
Sweet! What rims do you have installed? I’m also looking to get 17” wheels.
@@SrinivasGanesh
I made a mistake. I am actually running 17 rear and 18 front. I swapped the rear rim to the front for the new wider profile tyre and replaced the rear with a Racing Boy 17" 4.50 rim.
Don't ask me why i did that i am new to motorcycles(clueless) and this is a common and popular mod amongst the twin riders here in Thailand so I went along with it. Lol. Good thing is, it turned out good(beginner's luck lol).
Bike feels more eager to lean and those mt60rs give me alot more confidence than the stock pirellis. Wobbling went away like magic. Thank God.
The stance of the bike changed a little. More aggressive now imho.
Total damage was less than 500 dollars all in. 1 rim, tyres front and rear and balancing, alignment. It was alot of work. But worth it. :)
same wobbling happened to my street twin.. now i know why :)
I’m glad the video helped!! Thank you so much for watching it! Much appreciated brother! 🫱🏽🫲🏾✌🏽
Quick question mate,
did you check in high speeds around 150-160km of course with hands on the handlebar, because my continental gt 650 will start wobbling after i cross 140km
oh no mate, I did not. I don't like to go beyond 125kmph. This seems like a good enough speed to a) speed, and b) cruise. I'll ask a friend.
Thankyou
Thank you for watching the video!
Hey! Thinking to go for a thicker grade suspension oil instead of upgrading the entire setup. Would you suggest it , also would it stop the wobbling issue ?
wobbling can be due to several reasons like I pointed out in this video. Having a thicker oil can make the suspension stiff. no doubt but it will remain that ways. If you really want it, then by all means, go for it.
Had the same experience - when the front tyre gets side-banding from wear; deacceleration wobbles at around 90-70kph can occur.
Damn! I’ll check this too! Thank you for this information!
I m getting interceptor soon and like to swap with tubeless tyres with similar setup. The minus i felt is the lack of tyre options. Is the speed rating and load index of this timsun tyre is similar or higher than pirelli phantom? It may create wobble at high speeds if the rating goes lower.
Definitely go for Outex conversion. As far as speed rating is concerned, the front is P rated which means it can handle speeds of upto150kmph and the rear is H rated meaning it can do up to speeds of 220kmph. But the main question is, how often you think you would be crossing the 150 threshold? and would you really want to?
do you really tighten spokes to adjust wheel alignment ?
That is also one of the procedures to do it.
What is the grey colour material at the rim of both tyres ?? The little grey thing....
that would be the outex kit, which makes the stock rims tubeless.
Did you get the wobbling issues again after your new tyres got a bit old (5k-10k run post replacement run).?
no sir. No wobble after installing these.
How much did they charge you for cone set greasing and checking ?
About INR 50₹ for inspection, Since there was nothing wrong with it in the first place.
Thanks for the video. Very helpful. Also did you check the wheel balancing too?
Yes I did, and that was fine too! Thank you for watching the video, I'm glad you liked it!
Man your city roads are much better than expected
Bahahahahaha! That’s because I know when to press the record button on the helmet mounted GoPro. 🤣
How common is the wobbling issue in the interceptor. I am planning to buy a used one, should I reconsider?
It is on select batch of motorcycles. And primarily due to the front tyre. It will start to happen after 7-8k kms, or in some cases even after 3k kms. But get the tyres changed under warranty and you're good.
Does the rear rim need to be swapped for the 150 section tyre?
Nope. It does not. Unless you opt to go for a different rim size.
Now that I have reached 9k kms - I have suddenly started getting the wobble. I was also very happy that, no wobble issues.
I will mostly get the RE alloys and the new set of tyres
Saving :)
New set of tyres and no wobbles. RE alloys are a good option.
Thanks for that video
Can I know what problems or issues you faced by putting on 150 section instead of the stock 130 And if it's safe and advisable to do so. Does it sit comfortably between the sprocket and swing arm ? Is there any scrapping or brushing against the swingarm ? Notice any difference in the fuel economy as well as the top speed ?
Problems? No problems, slight wider rear tyre meaning more contact patch on the road for better traction. It is very much safe to do so. It sits comfortably between the sprocket and the swing arm. Fuel consumption remains unchanged at 24-25 kmpl in city under ideal conditions. I’m not that enthusiastic in reaching top speed. I whole heartedly believe in cruising at under 120 kmph. People should be able to see what I ride as opposed to them having a discomfort in their ears and seeing only a blur. 😎👍🏽 thank you for watching the video!
What is the kit you put on your tired?
Outex kit. To make spoked wheels tubeless.
Sir, where do you get your gloves?
Do you mean where did I get them from? These are Burning Yellow gloves from Royal Enfield.
Hey I've changed to the yss front and rear too. How much air gap did you ensure for the front forks with the yss kit? I'm a bit iffy about mine.
since I didn't install the front suspensions myself, let me ask and get back to you. I will comment in the coming days.
@@SrinivasGanesh thank you 🙏
Can I install 150-80 tyre in the existing alloys?
Yes you can.
Thank you for this informative content! Front suspension on your interceptor seems to be adjustable. Have you used some pre load adjustors or have you changed the complete front suspension?
Changed complete to YSS adjustable suspensions. :) thank you for watching!

Hi, there tyre link is in the description. Check it out. Handlebar you can ask from any RE showroom.
Sir which front fork oil would u recommend for interceptor 650??
Liqui Molly is pretty good.
Do you suspect that the issue is with that particular tire size set from Pirelli?
Yes that is correct. And that too in select batches only.
Sri, can you share the link for your handle bar please. Is that a stick one ?
Hey. There’s no link. You can buy this at any RE showroom. Thank you for watching!
Hello. I really like the tires you put on the back. But I have the same issue and I have less than a thousand miles. 750 to be exact. I have checked head bearing torque which is the only thing I bought of. Actually considering putting a steering stabilizer on
This was a tyre issue in my case. Once they were changed, the issue was resolved. :) But thank you so much for watching the video! Cheers!
Which handlebar do you use ???
Himalayan Handlebar
Great video Srini anna! Do the newer bikes with the Ceat have the same issue? How long can we go on them before replacing?
Ceat has less wobbles, but they are tubed. Meaning if you have an outex kit installed or a way2speed solution put to your rims, the air would still escape, since the tyres do not have a tubeless profile. But I'll ask around more about these tyres.
Hi guys, just confirming that even the newer bikes coming in with CEAT have wobbling issues. I've barely done around 3-4k kms on my bike and the issue has been there for the last couple of thousand kms.
Thanks Sri for your video, looking forward to changing the tyres asap, before the monsoons hit Mumbai. I absolutely hate the current one's, what would you recommend for a new set?
@@rish1102 Thank you so much for this insight. yes Changing the tyres will solve the issue. I guess this issue is in select batches of bad tyres. And changing that will solve the issue. Keep us posted Rishab!
Which tyres are those
Those are Timsun Tyres. Check the profile of those in the video description. Many thanks for watching the video! 🫱🏽🫲🏾
I recently experienced wobbling on my almost new (2000 kms clocked a few days back). This has never happened while riding with a pillion and I have carefully tested it at 60,80 and 100 kmph. On our recent trip (myself, same pillion and around 30kg of luggage), I noticed wobbling at 80kmph and haven't been able to understand the reason. As we are back now, I am yet to try out again and see if the wobbling still exists (with the pillion but without the luggage). A little context before I ask you this... Could the luggage be the reason for wobbling?
There could be one of the reasons that I point out in the video, could be because of the unevenness of the road as well. Luggage could be a reason as well, that is only if they were not balanced, or weighed differently on either sides. Please keep us posted if you were able to find the reason.

Hello, I have clocked 13.5k kms on my interceptor.. The tyre look good .. but they started to wobble after crossing 80kmph(leaving both the hands). Could you suggest me anything with your experience..
I have taken the bike to SVC, they tuned the wheel, checked the foundation bolts.. said they were loose and now the issue is solved, but again.. that is still persisting..
Could you help me out
Use the tyre depth measuring tool to measure the tyre depth. Many a time the tyres 'look' good but are not. So that is the only sure shot way to find out. If the tool says the tyre is worn out then you know the solution.
@@SrinivasGanesh Thank you..☺️🙏.. I'll do it today..
Hi, the 6th thing would have been re-grease and re-torque the trailing arm bearings. Another thing would be upgrade the rear shock absorbers. There have been motorcycles manufactured where the rear of the bike would wag the front. Hope you wobble stays cured.
yep, had to change the tyres, it is not gone.
Hey, Can I know what tyrer sizes you went with, and is it possible for you to share the link, it would be of great help. Thanks!!!!!!
Thank you for the comment and watching the video. Link is there in description and size is 100 in front and 150 in rear. Both 18” wheels
Thank you for the entertainment sir :)
Can you pls post some more photo so one can see how that 150/70 rear tire fit on the bike? Stay safe
Sure thing! that is a good suggestion! I will do that in the community section.
How come dukes or some other racer don't have any wobbles even if the tyres are bald and their carcass showing?
maybe they do and no one made a video on that. Or maybe they know it is way too risky to test that once your tyres are bald.
Same experience at my end
Changed tyre (from Pirelli to Ceat)
And wobble was gone
Although grip of Ceat is questionable at times
But ceat does the job if you ride it sanely
Thank you for watching the video! It is true that if you ride ‘sensibly’ there would be no issues at all. But we love to live on the edge don’t we? 😉
How was the mileage after changing the tyres?
same. Tyres are not that heavy.
After riding about 7174 km... I started facing this issue ... ny gt is running on CEAT zoom cruze ...
What to do ..
Tyre didn't worn out that much...
There are other solutions as well that I detail out in the video. You can try those. It would be within that only.
