    This is excellent. I had one chick that just wasn’t doing well. She overheated when it wasn’t that hot, so I raised the heat source and the other 5 chicks became too cold.
    The one chick was just unwell. She never got big, I babied her a bunch, giving her water, and checking on her every 15 minutes. She died anyways. Sometimes there is just nothing you can do.

    My brooder is just a tote with a bath mat down the side and across the bottom and i have a heat lamp but they acted like they were panting with their beaks open when the heat lamp was right over them so I scooted their brooder a little out of range of the heat lamp and now it's off to the side. I wasn't even using it most the day and my chicks are 3-4 days old. It was 80-85 in my room and they were still moving around, eating good, and pooping all over the mat I already cleaned today, so hopefully they are pretty comfortable

    Yeah I’m a little confused as mine are panting and huddling together. Seems like a paradox. I took them out of the heat since the panting seems like the critical point.

    I have chicks in a laundry room in a big basket. Jap Bantams. The room is about 68 degrees but will warm up as the day goes on. Is that too cold?? It will get to around 80 later. Also have you ever heard of chickens hatching out from eggs that were laying in the Sun? I pulled them out from under her because I don't need any more chicks and I forgot about them and they were laying on top of the chicken coop in direct sun. Florida sun. I went out the other day and heard cheeping five of them out 6 eggs. The chicks are now about 9 days old.

      I personally think 68 is a little too cold - 80 is reasonable. Can you use a heating pad to provide a little extra warmth? Regarding the eggs, the embryos can be pretty hardy, especially if it's always warm in your area. We have to remove eggs from the coop daily in the summer otherwise we risk them incubating, even if a hen isn't sitting on them

      I would say 68 is to cold.. I'm no expert either tho.. but my guess would be 68 is little to much on the chilly side.. if they are newborns then I would say 95 degrees but. If considering you do not have the heat source then do your best to get that heat to at least about 80.. I have only had my first 4 chicks around 2 weeks now.. so my advice is not expert.. but it is based off of the knowledge of those who are.. maybe it will help.. I'm guessing over 80 or so just for survival.. anything less could result in unhealthy bird or death... but.. I'm not 100 percent..

      @@thedebatefinisher..5521Yeah they ended up being fine except for the one little fellow. The little black bird. The one I was worried about never got any bigger. Was sad man sad. I guess he wondered why I never got any bigger. Again crying over the baby chicken. He never got any bigger than a couple days old all of his brothers and sisters were almost full grown chickens. Well bantam chickens. I took him out a couple times and so he could walk around in the grass. He had some kind of intestinal tract issues it wasn’t complete so he couldn’t expel right. If you are a kid stop reading here please. I so much thank you for offering help I really appreciate it.
      So when a chick is sickly the mother turns on it so do the siblings. Survival of the fittest situation she can’t let one drag her down so you know that’s what they do. So not only is he dying he doesn’t understand what’s going on in his mother and his siblings have turned on him. Hey don’t ever let anybody tell you that nature isn’t cruel. Human’s have nothing on nature. I’m crazy though I’m really emotional I took too much of what’s in my avatar over the years and it kind of rewired my brain makes me really empathetic and emotional. I other words of crying mess. I cry over anything.

    A found a chick lying almost dead outside. It couldn't move and was gasping for air. I thought it got over heated and gave it some glucose water to drink(just dipped the beak in water) . After a it spat it out and died. Do you think i chocked it? It is warm outside but there are plenty of water feeders and shade. It was 5 days old and was fine in the morning. And what do you have do if your chicks are overheated?

    • @shaleenannbrown5109
      @shaleenannbrown5109 3 года назад

      The temperature must be around 88-89 degrees. The birds are chirping but not so loudly

    • @pamperedchickenmama
      @pamperedchickenmama  3 года назад +1

      It's impossible for me to say whether it choked on the water, but realistically, if it already wasn't doing well, I think it's unlikely. Chicks are so fragile - it could have died from anything.

    They should have classes and give a test and license , like how it’s required to drive a car.
    People are clueless how to raise baby chics, including me!
    Mine seem to be doing great , so far so good. 🙏🏻
