That is one nice thing about the basic functionality staying the same across versions - you don't have to re-learn the basics - once you know them, you know them!
I just spent days doing this the hard way and could have achieved it in much less time if id have known about your wonderful tutorials. Thanks so much.
I liked a couple of the suggestions here, especially the Push/Pull make new face trick to create door openings - nice one which I'm sure I'll use a lot.
I just wish I had seen your series before I started. Now I may actually be able to take control of my modeling instead of being limited. by my ignorance. Thank you.
Great tutorial. You have a great way of teaching, very precise and clear. Not to fast so you understand everything in your tutorial. Keep up the fantastic work. As I've said before on other tutorials, its guys like you that make the world a better place. Thank you very much.
I'm totally new to SketchUp and wanted to use it to build reference models for comics. I looked through a bunch of video tutorials on here, but this was by far the most thorough and helpful one for my situation. Really amazing job with this, thank you so much!
Wow! I’ve been looking for an amateur floor plan app. I saw the SketchUp app, but the comments said it was too complicated. You video is very easy to follow. I think I’ll get this app and continue to work with your vids. Thanks a million.
Love the show. FYI, standard wall thicknesses are as follows (incorrectly stated in this show): -Outside walls vary depending on the thickness of outer surface but on an "all wood wall", your stud thickness is either 3.5" or 5.5". Sheetrock on the interior face is usually 1/2" but could be 5/8" if stud spacing is more than 16" oc (but less than or equal to 24" oc). Outside layers usually include 1/2" sheathing (OSB-Oriented Strand Board, a common sheathing material, is actually 17/32" but 1/2" is good enough). Progressing outwards-- usually we apply a vapor barrier material that virtually has no noticeable thickness. Then you have to decide what the final finish is: it could be brick (4" including a small air gap), lap siding (usually allow 1/2 to 3/4). In colder climates, we usually use 2x6's for framing (actual dimension of 1.5"x5.5") because we can put more insulation in. Many builders are starting to put rigid insulation outside of the sheathing layer to keep "thermal bridging" (the fact that the studs don't have as much insulation value as the insulation between the studs. This has to be slowed down, and so we see anywhere from 3/4" to 4" of rigid insulation outside the house now.Warmer climates use 2x4's (actual dimensions are 1.5"x3.5"). For SketchUp I use total wall thickness of (inside to outside: .5"+5.5"+.75"=6.75" total. -Interior walls are almost always 2x4 construction (1.5"x3.5" actual) with 1/2" sheetrock on each side. This makes the total finished width of 4.5". Hope this helps.
Feel free to draw the walls whatever your wall width is going to be! Hopefully this video shows a process that you can use and adjust no matter your wall thickness :)
I've been trying to get to understand soft Production and a DAW with a guide that's not made more complicated and tNice tutorials Nice tutorialts the right
Hey Justin.... AWESOME!! thank you, I am teaching myself sketch and I have checked out a lot of videos as I slowly catch on, and I so appreciate your pace and clarity. I LOVED learning the push-pull trick to create another face by clicking on the "option" key (for me because I am on a mac), but thank you again, and cannot wait for the next video, Great Job!
I have an interview this Monday in Interior Design and I dont have any experience at all lol.... hopefully by the end of this video I can say that I have experience
you're doing a great job sir i learnt a lot from your videos unfortunately i cannot afford your full tutorials so I'm searching for other videos like this in here but most of them aren't helpful. i hope i can find something interesting. if anyone from the audience knows similar teachers like him, please link me in my comments :)
Great video. I am having trouble right at about the 20-minute mark where you create a new face and pull down, then extrude the door. I cannot create a new face and alternately when I attempt to use just a rectangle to extrude the door opening I cannot push it through. I saw where you used inferencing to push to the back part of the wall though I cannot remember where I saw that and am not able to do it. Your videos are very good and I really appreciate your expertise. I've watched many and do translate everything into mac, as I go. As a beginner, I sometimes have to watch things several times to get the technique though I am finally able to make my way around in SketchUp. I will contribute to your Patreon account as I have definitely learned a lot from you. Thank you.
Thanks for a fantastic tutorial! At 14:33 "This wall is a group, so you won't have to worry about the geometry merging". In SKP 2020, I can't for the life of me figure out how to prevent the interior walls from merging with the exterior ones even though it feels like I've followed the video down to the letter and created the Tag and the group "ARCH Exterior walls"
A way to add guide for door height (7') is: 1. create a rectangle just enoughto cover all drawing at ground. 2. make it group. 3. Now edit group, select the face of rectangle 4. Right click and select intersect face with model. 5. Now delete all faces in group. 6. Wow..., the 7' height guides are all over the model. 7. whwn finished creating door just delete the group.
Awesome video , I'm a beginner , having a hard time grouping/ moving objects , my dotted line never shows when selecting objects to group together , greetings from Brazil , I'm your big fan
Almost 3 years later and I still use this as reference. Unbelievable how evergreen this lesson is.

The more I see this video the more I pick up. Makes sense to keep coming back. Thanks, Justin.
Awesome!
Love that you created the wall with the push/pull tool, this is what makes sketchup so great is being able to model quickly and almost effortlessly!
With your videos my learning curve will shrink drastically. Thank you.
Great video! In case no one else mentioned it, the thicker walls are for the plumbing, to accommodate thicker pipes.
I liked a couple of the suggestions here, especially the Push/Pull make new face trick to create door openings - nice one which I'm sure I'll use a lot.
I just wish I had seen your series before I started. Now I may actually be able to take control of my modeling instead of being limited. by my ignorance. Thank you.
Hi John - thanks very much - glad you're finding it helpful!
Can I ask if there is a way of repairing faces that are slightly broken? Don't know how else to say it.
Thank you for the Playlist. At least I have lessons being learned in order. Focus guaranteed. Thankyou. Great work Sir. Michael.
You changed my life with these videos 😭
Thank you immensely for producing this video. Its clarity greatly enhanced my understanding of SketchUp.

Great tutorial. You have a great way of teaching, very precise and clear. Not to fast so you understand everything in your tutorial. Keep up the fantastic work. As I've said before on other tutorials, its guys like you that make the world a better place. Thank you very much.

I have an interview this Monday in Interior Design and I dont have any experience at all lol.... hopefully by the end of this video I can say that I have experience
I'm not sure being able to draw a single floor plan in SketchUp quite qualifies as interior design experience....
I got the job tho

Try tapping the option key when it extrudes back - this will create a new face instead of just removing the old one
weeks and i've managed to put so pretty basic soft together. They're not great and they still have a ways to go before being

If your interior walls and your exterior walls are in 2 different groups, they shouldn't be merging
Great presentation Justin. Some excellent tips there too. Thanks very much.
Thanks Ken - glad you liked it!
looks WAAAYYYYYYY more complicated than I thought!
Excellent video. Very practical and helpful tips. Cheers!!!
Thanks very much!

Thank you so much sir for this amazing tutorial
Thanks for watching!
Thank you Justin. What does it mean to "heal" the walls. Why did you need to draw a line from one side to the other?
Your video is very informative and educational ,explanation very simple.
I'll definitely support and subscribe to your visit
Thanks! :)
